If there is one thing you probably noticed about my reviews is that I like casual games which are challenging and more than they appear to be. For me, you either use casual games to pass the time and then after a while you get bored and stop playing them. Or, you find that one you always have installed on your PC, tablet or phone that you can’t seem to stop playing. 1010! Color developed by Gram Games Studio and published by Zynga launched a few days ago for iOS and Android devices and I’m already hooked.
1010! Color uses match-3 mechanics although not like we are used to in Candy Crush-type of games. This will very much remind you of Tetris because of the different shapes made of one and more blocks. These blocks can be in different colors like purple, yellow, red and green and you have to match three and more of the same color on the board in order to free up space for more. When you run out of space to fit an object, it’s game over and you have to start again. While this may sound easy, it’s actually really challenging and you will get completely engrossed in just a few minutes.
The game has a minimalistic appearance and it suits it just fine. You don’t need anything else than a clear board and three objects to position however you think will bring you points. Additionally, there are two themes to play: light and dark. Depending on what better suits your eyes you can switch between the two at the beginning of a new game. When it comes to sounds, there is no background music which is very helpful since you need to concentrate and think. If the in-game sounds annoy you, there is a button to turn them off which is accessible from the Settings.
However, the game comes with ads and if you want to remove them you will have to pay around $6. They appear only when you finish the match, so you won’t be bothered while you are playing. Although, watch for the ad at the bottom of the screen during gameplay that you can accidentally tap on and open up Google Store.
Other than that, this is a truly addicting game that will encourage you to test your limits. Just don’t play too much of it or you will start seeing colorful boxes whenever you close your eyes.
