A few days ago Bandai Namco released a concept movie teaser announcing their Tales of Crestoria game coming out in the West for mobile devices.
Tales is a well-known Japanese RPG franchise developed by Bandai Namco Games which started off in 1995 with Tales of Phantasia. The series has many main games, remakes, and spin-offs released for these 23 years. Now, Bandai Namco Games revealed the new title Tales of Crestoria which will be out for smartphones and will introduce new story and characters. The developer describes the game as “An RPG Written in Blood and Betrayal” and has quite a powerful tagline “Live. Even if it’s a sin.”
The game will take place in a dystopian world where every citizen is mandated to carry a Vision Orb which records any criminal behavior. The protagonists of the game are Kanata a boy who believes in the Orb and Misella an orphan who is protective of Kanata. But in one night, everything will change for the characters as they will be pronounced Transgressors and sentenced to death by the popular voice of the society which actually rules the world. However, after they meet the Great Transgressor Vicious, Kanata and Misella will have to decide whether they will accept their sentence or fight the system.
Based on the Twitter account of the game, there will be six playable characters each having a specific sin. Games in the series are independent and each features different storylines and characters, but the gameplay and fantasy environment is actually what connects them. The art style is inspired by Japanese anime and manga, which is noticeable from the start. However, it also uses Linear Motion Battle System which is fighting system full of action also present in manga and anime.
This is not the first time a game is localized for North America and Europe, at least when it comes to main titles. Spin-offs, on the other hand, weren’t launched outside Japan at all. Since there is a live stream broadcast scheduled for December 14, there may be more info on the game, visual materials, details about the story and also about the release date. For now, it is confirmed that Tales of Crestoria will be out in 2019 for Android and iOS devices.
