After a long wait, Battle Breakers is finally here! This tactical RPG was eagerly awaited by the players for around two years, and on November 13, much to the delight of all the fans, it was released. Let’s dive right into it and see what this game is all about.
Development and reception
Battle Breakers was developed by Epic Games, one of the most famous video game developer/publisher in the US. They are the developers of legendary Unreal Engine, which is pretty much one of the most utilized video game engines of today. Many AAA titles are using it, and it is one of the reasons why Epic Games are so famous and successful. Another one is simply said – Fortnite. In 2019, it is more likely to find a wallet full of bucks on the street than it is to find a gamer who hasn’t heard of Fortnite.
Battle Breakers had a soft launch in select countries back in 2017, and two years later, on November 13, it was finally released for PC on Epic Games Store. On Android, it is available via Epic Games App, and Samsung Galaxy Store. It is also available on iOS via App Store. On App Store Battle Breakers currently has 4.4 out of 5 stars with around 1.4k ratings.
In its essence, Battle Breakers is a tactical hero-collection RPG. Unlike most of the titles of a similar genre, it has quite a unique battle system. During combat, you click on crystals in order to reveal items, buffs, monsters, etc. All of the heroes in the game have special abilities you can use during battles. Other than that, there is rock, paper, scissors, elemental types system, similar to other games of the genre. This means that each hero is linked to a certain element, and has an advantage against one element while being weak against another.
As you progress through the game, you’ll gain levels. Each level allows you to choose some passive bonuses that will be available to all of your heroes, which is quite an interesting feature. As for the heroes, there are hundreds of different ones you can obtain. Battle Breakers has an interesting feature called Hero Helper. Clicking on this option before the battle will automatically adjust your setup to counter enemy units that are present in that stage. This can be extremely helpful, especially to new players, which is pretty nice.
Visually, Battle Breakers looks pretty impressive. Character design is very nicely done and the art style is amazing. Each hero is designed with plenty of details, and while they do look a bit cartoonish, you will more than likely grow to like them, especially if you are a fan of this art style. The animations in themselves are quite a sight to look at. Overall, the developers did a good job of polishing all the visual aspects of Battle Breakers, and in turn, the game looks quite neat.
This is pretty much one of the best qualities of Battle Breaker. From the get-go, you will hear the catchy theme song that is highly reminiscent of old school shows such as Power Rangers. While it may sound extremely cheesy, it is cheesy in a good way, and it will definitely hype you up for the upcoming action. Also, the thrill of collecting new heroes and upgrading them as you progress is nicely adding up to the overall atmosphere.
All things considered, Battle Breakers is an interesting hero-collector game that will provide you many hours of fun and entertainment. If you are a fan of the genre, you will definitely feel at home playing this title.
