Hunting games are usually in the realms of simulation, with realistic equipment, environment, and animals you hunt. However, there are also casual shooting games and casual hunting games as their subgenre. The older gamers among you probably remember the legendary Nintendo game Duck Hunt and the frustration when that damned dog laughed at players after they missed all their shots. Duckz! has that same duck-huntin’ premise, but put in a modern game package.
Being on a mobile, Duckz! had to undergo some modifications in gameplay. It is still a timing based first-person shooter, but the difference is that aiming is automatic, so in order to shoot all you have to do is just to tap the screen. So far, it sounds too easy, but don’t get tricked by that simple mechanic. This game uses the same shooting physics engine from the Clay Hunt PRO, the most realistic shotgun shooting simulator available for mobile. That means instead of shooting straight you will have to lead the bird. What does it mean, you ask? Well, when you aim to shoot a duck, you don’t aim for its current position, but in the position you expect it to be. Basically, you make a duck fly into the bullet.
There is even rudimentary story mode for this game, about helping the cook feed hungry villagers by hunting ducks and completing missions. As you progress through the game, you will get to buy new weapons and unlock new hunting areas with the money you earned. You begin in the swampy field with ponds and bulrush and unlock more exotic locations by time. The weapons are quite various, and they are not all necessarily shotgun-based. Imagine hunting ducks with M-16. Or a rocket launcher. Or automatic shotgun. The best thing is, there is no one, dog or human, to laugh at you if you miss, and you will miss a lot if you are unbeknown to leading a shot.
Development of these games started at the beginning of this year, and it was partially funded by AVEK, a promoter of independent audiovisual productions focusing on documentary films, short films and short animations from Finland. In addition to English version Duckz! is localized to French, Italian, Spanish and of course, native Finnish.
Regardless if you are an old school gamer who wants to revive the joy of virtual duck hunting or a young one merely stepping in the hunting games, Duckz! will entertain you in a great measure. Just remember to lead the shot.
