The Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker final trailer dawned yesterday, much to the delight of all of the fans. Are you a fan of the original trilogy? Do you like or dislike the prequels? And, what did you think about the previous movies of this third trilogy? Well, the saga ends this Christmas, as this new trailer brings a deep emotional message, followed with goodbyes of many familiar characters and tears shed by all, as we finally catch a glimpse of the original, greatest enemy of our heroes – Darth Sidious himself.
“Long have I waited… And, now, your coming together is your undoing”
Star Wars Episode 9 final trailer hints at many things, teases countless iconic sights familiar to the fans, but again it reveals just a tiny bit more than the previous trailers did. Surprisingly enough, there is no Dark Side Ray this time, while in the previous trailer that was all anyone talked about. Also, we see some familiar places and planets, but all public announcements from Disney explicitly state that all these are new planets we haven’t seen before in any of the episodes. However, there is a certain analogy and familiarity in the poetic representation of the scenery and the setting, with ice, water, sand, and outer space.
We hear several different characters speak throughout the Episode 9 final trailer, but they all seem to speak the lines of a single text or tale, which at the beginning says that it was the force that brought them together. People are assuming they mean Fin and Ray, because Fin’s voice says it, or maybe it is Ray and Kilo Ren because of what we hear later?
However, Ray’s voice is heard saying that nobody knows her, and Kylo’s voice says that he does, as we see them cross paths in a storm or water and wind, which could be another hint. One of the most impressive shots is made when a classic Imperial Star Destroyer breaks through the ice and takes off into the orbit, and we later see a bunch of old Imperial crafts, which possibly hints that they were secretly being rebuilt under the surface of some planet. Possibly this place where Kylo and Ray again cross lightsabers.
Kylo and Ray’s crossed lightsabers are then seen breaking a statue together, in a strange old school white room. The statue is presumably a pedestal which contained the charred salvaged Darth Vader helmet, seen several times in the previous two films. We also see the wreckage of the Second Death Star on this icy/watery planet, the one in which both Darth Vader and Darth Sidious met their presumable ends. However, the narration in the Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker final trailer is taken over by the voice of Darth Sidious, former Emperor Palpatine, and he delivers his lines about their undoing. The full narrative of the trailer goes like this:
It’s an instinct…
The force brought us together. – Fin
We’re not alone!
Good people will fight if we lead them! – Poe
People keep telling me they know me…
No one does. – Ray
But, I do. – Kylo Ren
Long have I waited.
And, now, your coming together is your undoing. – Darth Sidious
Suitable to the saga closure we are promised, we also see our old friends C3P0 and R2D2, as C3P0 seems to be saying goodbye to Ray and the others. He says he is taking one last look at his friends, while in the previous trailers we’ve seen him with red eyes in a state of alert. And, as a big reveal but still just a hint, we see Ray backing down while a strange figure, hooded in black robes and seated in some kind of a high tech chair hovers over her, which is presumably and hopefully, Darth Sidious returned, after biding his time and rebuilding the Imperial army. We can still just speculate what it all means, as everything we see might just be an apparition, but there is always a new hope…
Confronting fear is the destiny of the Jedi…your destiny
The force will be with you… – Luke Skywalker
…always! – Leia Skywalker
