Flood Time – Arcade infinite jumping game sounds like it’s another boring clicker, but it is, in fact, a game that will make you lose your mind and throw away your phone, just to jump after it and pick up and play again. Yea, you will go bonkers. It is a platformer arcade and in its basis a casual jumping game, but it will make babies out of the most skilled gamers out there. So, think you are a skilled player? You can handle a silly little simple game like this… Go ahead, try it…You’ll be back in diapers in no time.
Development and reception
This title is developed and published by an indie developer called octogames, without the capital “o”. It is a simplistic arcade game, but it achieves much with such a minimalistic design according to Flood Time reviews and scores. The game is currently made for Android and Google Play Flood Time Android has a 4.8-star score, almost perfect, albeit from a small voting pool. Nevertheless, the people playing it are quite happy…. Angry, but happy.
Atmosphere and story
It is a simple and casual game, with no deep and engaging storyline. It is about a king and his friends from the kingdom, as they jump to avoid enemies and traps. However, there are a lot of various characters, which are supposedly the king’s friends, and they are lively! In fact, there is a total of 20 characters to choose from currently, but only 5 are free from the start and they have no special abilities. What special abilities do the characters in a casual jumping game have, you ask? Well, surprisingly so, quite innovative and snappy. There is a character called Sancho, who can slow down the movements of the moving platforms. Oh, yea…there are moving platforms, to make your nerves even more on edge.
The characters are unlocked with the coins, which are the game’s main and only currency. You collect it through the game get it by watching the standard promo video, or by purchasing them. There are also other colorful characters like ghosts, pirates, mythical beings, and loads more all with their own unique skill.
Aha! Now for the main attraction: Flood Time gameplay. Yeah, for a simple, casual jumping game, it will stretch your veins and nerves so much you will want to break your Smartphone in half, but you will pick it up and play it again, guaranteed.
With your character of choice, you are tasked with jumping upwards, from one platform to another, in an endless challenge. The only goal is to go as high as you can and stay alive. And, this is where things go south.
You are besieged by enemies, who patrol the platforms horizontally. But, they move so fast like racing cars! And, you only get an exclamation mark as a warning for when they are going to appear and zoom past their lane. However, the characters also move and jump pretty quickly, which makes the game’s pace dangerously high.
Everything is controlled by simple swipes in four basic directions. Swiping up will jump on the platform above, providing there is one. Swiping left or right will make your character hop to that direction, and swiping down will make your character jump to the platform below. However, beware, as this game earns its Flood Time name with the rising water that is constantly one step behind you, always threatening to drown you.
So, to recap, you need to jump upwards, to the highest platform you can possibly manage, avoid getting hit by enemies which are blazing from all sides, use moving platforms and avoid fire and obstacles, without the rising water ever gaining on you. Simple…right?
Flood Time reviews and feedback mostly focuses on the game’s mechanics and gameplay. The visuals are what you’d expect from an indie developer. This does not mean they are bad though. In fact, the art style and modeling are quite cute and cartoonish. But the simplistic visual design also adds to the game’s pacing and snappy allure.
A casual game like Flood Time is not demanding and can probably work smoothly on most of the devices today. It asks anything with Android 4.1 or newer, and that’s it. It does not spend the battery fast, nor does it slow down the CPU.
Free to Play Friendly
Flood Time is absolutely free to play. Everything in the game can be earned and unlocked just by playing. The game’s main currency, the mentioned coins can be collected through the platforms and also awarded for watching the promo video. You can purchase some, if you really don’t want to wait, at cheap prices, but it is not mandatory.
Any game that can get your blood boiling and make you want to crush your Smartphone with your bare hands is doing its job properly, providing that is its intended effect. And, with this title it definitely is. Flood Time reviews are mostly positive simply for the fact that it does just that. However, it will make you pick it up and play more as soon as you angrily turn off your device and slam it down. It is tough, challenging, snappy, and fun. As a simple indie casual game, we’d say it represents its class perfectly.
