Is it worth playing?

Pretty close to the release of the Jurassic World movie in 2018, Ludia and NBCUniversal dished out Jurassic World Alive AR mobile game, as a companion to the movie. This kind of marketing often produced interesting results, like the Transformers PC games in the ‘00s, while some of the famous mobile games that came along their respective movies and TV shows are Zombieland: Double Tapper, a few Game of Thrones mobile titles, and many more. While this title does have the same sort of marketing connection to the mentioned games, it does not share their representation of the source material. Only the title, the dinosaurs, and a few other features are taken from the movie, while the rest is all innovative and interesting for sure.

Development

Jurassic World Alive is published by NBCUniversal, and co-published by Ludia Games Inc

Jurassic World Alive review, guides, tips, tricks

As mentioned, Jurassic World Alive is published by NBCUniversal, and co-published by Ludia Games Inc. that is also the game’s developer. Ludia stands behind such titles as Warriors of Waterdeep, Turtles Legends, Dragons series, and they also worked on Jurassic World: The Game, when the first movie came out. This latest title, as mentioned, came out in 2018, alongside the Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom. The movies are all a part of the well-known Jurassic Park franchise, which also includes novels, short stories, comics, animated series, aside from the movies. And, in 2021, we will be getting another movie titled Jurassic World: Dominion.

On Google Play, JWA Android did pretty well in terms of user reviews, with a 4.3-star score out of almost 500k votes and the game was downloaded and installed over 10 million times. On the iTunes App Store, JWA iOS has a slightly better score of 4.4 stars out of around 70k votes and it is equally as popular.

Atmosphere

Besides being an Augmented Reality mobile game, JWA has several other things to offer

Jurassic World Alive review, guides, tips, tricks

Besides being an Augmented Reality mobile game, JWA has several other things to offer. While the majority of the game is preparing your team, evolving your dinosaurs, and battle preparation, the combat is where you see the action unfold. You also have some bonus stages and the entire approach this game offers to you is kind of like you are in charge of a dinosaur preservation facility. You control the experiments and grow dinosaurs, which is an homage to the movies of course. The dinosaurs themselves are faithfully represented and the atmosphere does reminiscent of the Jurassic Part movies.

Jurassic World Alive is a hero collector of some sort, but your heroes and characters are dinosaurs

Jurassic World Alive review, guides, tips, tricks

While we’ve mentioned combat preparation and character evolution, this would mean that Jurassic World Alive is a hero collector of some sort, but your heroes and characters are dinosaurs. However, the game is also listed in the strategy genre and it is because of the turn-based combat. You take a team of 4 dinosaurs to battle, but they do not all fight at the same time, but instead, combat is being waged in a 1vs1 manner. Only two dinos fight at a time, and when one is defeated, another from the team takes its place. You do so in a “best of 3” environment. You can swap the dinosaurs throughout combat and they all have their abilities, with attack effects like stun, bleed, etc…

Outside of combat, you prepare your dinosaur team, but you also evolve or collect them. You do so by collecting the genes for a specific dinosaur. This is done through various stages of the game, like the Hunting stage where you shoot a dinosaur with darts that collect its DNA, which is also taken from the movies. This is the part that is played quite similarly to the other AR titles

This game uses a similar mechanic like the Pokémon Go. It uses GPS and sets up dinosaurs and gameplay features near your position on the map, in your home, or near. That said it is not a standard AR game. Also, there are is a PvP mode, Challenge mode, and other gameplay modes, along with the in-game currencies and items to use.

Graphics

This game has come out in 2018, which is to say that it is at the top of the mobile gaming graphics capabilities two years ago

Jurassic World Alive review, guides, tips, tricks

This game has come out in 2018, which is to say that it is at the top of the mobile gaming graphics capabilities two years ago. Much has changed since then, with Flagship CPUs and GPUs being several times stronger and faster now. So, today, AR games are more common, but 2+ years ago, this was very much innovative. Out of combat and in some modes, the models and animations are minimalistic, while in combat, the dinosaurs are very realistic and represented by impeccable animations.

Tech Compatibility

This game is not all that demanding today

Jurassic World Alive review, guides, tips, tricks

As said, this game is not all that demanding today. When you factor in the minimalistic animations and models it uses outside of combat, it is pretty easy on the mobile phone. Also, it uses GPS and Google Maps, which is to say it may have trouble working on the latest Huawei devices if they are denied access to Google Services, but we were still not able to test this. It needs around 1.2GB of storage plus updates and it requires iOS 10.0, while on Androids it requires 534MB plus updates and 4.4 system or up.

Free-to-play Friendly

It’s pretty liberal on the in-game resources and currency

Jurassic World Alive review, guides, tips, tricks

The game is pretty liberal on the in-game resources and currency. Everything is aimed at obtaining different dinosaurs, that all have their rarity and other perks. You also use in-game resources to evolve and strengthen your dinosaurs, and finally, you also collect in-game vanity items. All of the stuff is obtainable without paying any real money, it only takes more time. Farming is a bit slow, as expected, but not too difficult, so we give this game a mixed score for this category.

Verdict

This title has high accessibility and it is easy to play, while it does provide a lot of replayability and content, so it is made for wide audiences for sure

Jurassic World Alive review, guides, tips, tricks

If you like video games that accompany movies, Jurassic World Alive is for you. It takes some of the main tricks from the movies, but expands on the subject and creates its own thing. Many developers that go for this sort of thing might take some tips from Ludia, for they managed to connect the game with the source material, but not make it a simple copy of the movie. This title has high accessibility and it is easy to play, while it does provide a lot of replayability and content, so it is made for wide audiences for sure. There is also PvP to make it more appealing for perhaps those hardcore competitive players and all this together adds up to a very solid score for Jurassic World Alive.

Jurassic World Alive guides and TIPS

How to improve your gaming experience and gameplay…

Jurassic World Alive review, guides, tips, tricks

In this second part of this page, entirely dedicated to JWA , we will look at some useful things for both beginner players and more experienced ones. The community for this game, although large, perhaps does not have that strong of a presence on the web as some other titles that have even fewer players per se. Guides, tips, and gameplay overviews are not that common for this game, so we’ve decided to gather all we could find in one place, and also produce guides of our own. We mainly focused on the most commonly asked questions by players overall, and the FAQ is:

FAST LINKS:

How to get Titanoboa?

New dinosaurs and various creatures are constantly being added to the game in time-limited events and on other occasions. Titanoboa was added during the Valentine’s Day event, between February 3 and 14, 2020. Unfortunately, Titanoboa was only available during that time window. It might come back again in other events, but we do not have any info about it at this time.

How to level up fast?

We are presuming that people who inquire about leveling up fast are mostly players that play for free, with no real money spent what so ever. Free players have a couple of options for fast leveling. The primary being battling. Secondly, depending on how well you are farming in-game cash, you can open the incubators. And, lastly, collecting coins and DNA can help a bit, but since these two are premium, they might not do that much if you are a free-to-play player. If you want to spend real money on the game, then this priority would go backward, with the fastest way to level up is through buying DNA and coins.

How to walk?

In an AR game like this, when your target, in this case, a dinosaur, is detected in your proximity on the map (using your GPS and Google Maps), you need to physically get there if you are to catch them. If this is your first contact with Augmented Reality games, it is how the whole Pokémon Go phenomenon changed the world in 2016, when it revolutionized mobile gaming forever. Rare dinosaurs and other creatures are placed on the virtual map, which corresponds to Google Maps of your area. To walk towards your desired target (dinosaur or other) you need to walk there in person, holding your phone.

How to get XP?

XP is only obtained through creations, leveling up hybrids, fusing dinosaurs, and evolutions. It was hinted that Ludia, the game’s developer, would maybe incorporate other ways to get XP, but so far these are the only possibilities. This is not a bad thing, for it presents one of the main challenges in the game, making players work at it and saving up their coins. Occasionally, Ludia will add a target in-game that can yield experience in an update.

How to get blue?

Blue is one of the most popular dinosaurs, at least he was in 2019. He is Owen Grady’s beta raptor pack and he is particularly cool because he makes some conscious decisions. Mainly, Blue chooses her allegiance and who she wants as her company. There are several ways to get blue. The easiest is to wait until Blue is the dino of the day and buy her. Some players report that Blue is often found around hospitals and colleges, between the hours of 13h and 17 h, local time. Between these and a few more obscure ways players are reporting, there is no real sure way of obtaining it but by playing the game and luck.

How to use Stat Boosts?

Stat Boosts are ways of upgrading your dinosaurs and making them unique. They are in-game consumable items that increase dinosaurs’ or creatures’ stats and skills, like HP, Attack, and Speed. They go from 0 to 20 tier boost and those particular creatures; level affects the Stat Boost cap. You need 100 points to upgrade to the next Stat Boost tier, but the pay off can be huge. Stat Boost feature is unlocked at Player Level 10, and you access it by:

  • Go to the Roster interface when you are Player Level 10 or above
  • Tap the desired Dinosaur or Creature
  • Tap the desired stat (Health, Speed, or Attack) to open the Start Boost Interface
  • Tap “i” for further tooltip info about the cost and the upgrade result
  • Pay the resources and receive the Stat Boost

How to transfer account?

Transferring game data and accounts is quite easy if you’ve played the game while connected with Facebook. This is confusing for people who are changing devices because, when you turn on the game on a new device, it requires you to go through the tutorial stage to access the Settings Manu, where you will be able to link the account with your Facebook account, and your data will be transferred. Players are advised to always keep a copy o the Account ID and Support Key. If you have further issues, contact [email protected], and include your Support Key in the email, along with other info.

How to get more DNA?

There are 5 basic ways to get DNA:

  • Battle Incubators (15-8H; 12H for rare, 18H for epic), awarded after every battle win
  • Purchasing Incubators for in-game cash (price and minimum guarantee yield increases with level)
  • Wild Encounters
  • VIP membership
  • Combining dinosaur DNA to get hybrid DNA

As far as Battle Incubators go, it is perhaps worth it to pay cash to speed them up if you do battle consistently. Purchasing Incubators for in-game cash is good for an early start and mid-game, but is not a viable option for late game. Wild Encounters are the obvious way of getting DNA, but this one is connected with the VIP membership. If you do spend real money, getting the VIP membership is the best option. It is the best option by far out of any other pack or top-up, and it will increase your Wild Encounter yield. Combining dinosaur DNA is a nice feature to use those dinosaurs that are perhaps not that good, but it is an RNG mechanic.

How to find an epic?

Legendary events are very rare. But, players can get Epic DNA a bit more often in various sources in the game. You should work on your Wild Encounter aim because when there is a good event with a good DNA opportunity, you want to get the most of it. PvP is also something to consider when trying to farm Epic incubators, for the popular opinion is that they drop more often in PvP than in PvE battles. Top-up offers in the game are, of course, the easiest way to get Epic dinosaurs, but if you are a completely free-to-play player, you should look for other gameplay loopholes.
