Hello everyone, welcome to our Walkthrough for Horsing Around Side Quest of Harry Potter Hogwarts Mystery.
This quest is available for students of Year 2 and above. In order to unlock it, you need to complete Fairy Tale Side Quest and have Hagrid as a friend.
To complete this side quest, you’ll need to have max level Abraxan in Magical Creatures Reserve, which is perhaps, the most difficult part of it. Once you have the quest available, proceed to the Clocktower Courtyard to meet Hagrid.

After arriving, Hagrid will say that Professor Dumbledore has a special assignment for you.
He will inform you that this assignment can be quite dangerous. You have three options to respond to that. This choice won’t affect the story, so feel free to pick the option you prefer.
Apparently, the assignment involves handling some dangerous creatures. Regardless of your choice, you’ll need to convince Hagrid that you’re the right person for it.
To do that, you need to earn five stars within three hours. One star is needed to pass.
There are 5-cost actions tied to Hagrid and your character. Prioritize them whenever they are available to save some energy.
Once you’re done, you’ll convince Hagrid you’re ready for the assignment.
Still, he’ll say that you need to learn more about magical creatures in order to help him.
To do that, you need to reach Magizoologist level 3. This shouldn’t be too hard to achieve, especially since there is no time limit to this side quest.
Afterward, proceed to the Training Grounds for the next task.
When you arrive, Hagrid will tell you more details about the assignment.
Apparently, he knows about the Abraxan in the Magical Creatures Reserve, and he needs to make some notes about it.
He’ll also suggest bringing someone else along.
Shortly after, Penny will arrive and you’ll ask her to help you with the research.
She’ll be quite hesitant at the start, so you’ll have to do some convincing.
Persuading Penny requires earning five stars within three hours. All five stars are needed to pass, so avoid starting the task if you are low on energy.
As always, prioritize doing 5-cost actions in order to save some energy.
When you finish the task, Penny will agree to help you.
Next, you’ll need to adopt the Abraxan before you can continue. To do that, you’ll need 90 red notebooks. This part is the major block for many players since 90 red notebooks aren’t so easy to obtain. Also, when you consider the fact that Abraxan does not have that good rewards for leveling up, it is understandable why a lot of players choose to simply ignore this quest.
Once you have the Abraxan, proceed to Magical Creatures Reserve for the next task.
Upon introducing Penny to your Abraxan, you’ll realize that the creature isn’t too fond of your friend.
You can choose to either reassure or tease Penny, but both of these options will lead to a similar outcome, so feel free to pick the one you prefer.
Shortly after, you’ll decide to show Penny how to befriend the Abraxan. To do that, you need to obtain five stars within three hours. All of the stars are needed to pass.
Like before, focus on 5-cost actions to save energy. There are some of those tied to Penny and your character.
This will be a success and you’ll notice that the Abraxan is starting to like Penny.
But that’s not all, Penny also managed to get some good notes in the meantime.
Before you can continue, you need to reach maximum trust level with the Abraxan. This can take a while, but eventually, you’ll get there. There is no time limit on the quest, so you don’t need to worry about it too much.
For the next task, head to the Training Grounds to meet Hagrid.
Upon arriving, you’ll introduce Hagrid to your Abraxan.
Hagrid will be amazed once he sees the winged horse.
Sadly, the creature won’t feel the same.
Hagrid will wonder if he did something wrong, and you’ll have three options to respond with. While this choice won’t influence the outcome of the quest, if you like Hagrid, it is recommended to pick the first option.
Moments later, your Abraxan will fly away.
You’ll then have to figure out why it escaped. To do that, you need to acquire five stars within three hours. All of the stars are required to pass.
Like before, prioritize 5-cost actions to save energy.
When you are done, you’ll come to an interesting conclusion.
Penny will suggest giving it some single-malt whisky to calm it down.
Thankfully, she’ll be the one to acquire the whisky, and you’ll need to gather some Courage (literally) before you approach the Abraxan.
As for gathering Courage, you’ll need to obtain 150 Courage points before you can proceed. The easiest way to do this is by completing one 8-hour Care of Magical Creatures class (if you are in Year 2 or 3, do the Flying class instead). This will guarantee you at least 100 Courage points if you successfully complete all of the mini-tasks. As for the remaining 50 points, you can probably get some of these from the rewards you receive upon earning stars. If you don’t get 50 points from that, try feeding some of your max level magical creatures. This will likely give you some Courage points.

Next, you should proceed to the Courtyard to meet Penny.
Once you arrive, you’ll notice that she already got the whisky, thanks to Hagrid.
She’ll be curious to know what your plan is. There are three options to choose from, but neither of these will affect the outcome of the quest, so feel free to pick whichever one you want.
Shortly after, you’ll get to calm the Abraxan.
To do that, you need to earn five stars within eight hours. All five stars are needed to pass.
There are a few 5-cost actions tied to Penny, so prioritize these whenever you see them available to save some energy.
Once you finish the task, the Abraxan will happily drink some whisky.
Now that the Abraxan is calm and peaceful, you can meet with Hagrid and finish the report for Professor Dumbledore. Proceed to the Magical Creatures Reserve when you are ready.
Upon arriving, you’ll thank Hagrid for providing the whisky for the Abraxan.
Next, you’ll get to finish the research. Doing so requires obtaining five stars within three hours. All of the stars are needed to pass.
There is a 5-cost action tied to your character, so focus on it if you are looking to save some energy.
When you finish the research, Hagrid will thank you for all your help.
Shortly after, Horsing Around Side Quest will come to an end. Hit the Collect button to claim your rewards.
This will award you 200 friendship experience points with Hagrid.
