Scaredy Cats Side Quest
Harry Potter Hogwarts Mystery
Hello everyone, welcome to our Walkthrough for Scaredy-Cats Side Quest of Harry Potter: Hogwarts Mystery. This quest is available for students of Year 2 and above. In order to complete it, you need to have a cat as one of your pets. Shortly after you start it, you’ll learn that Hagrid needs your help with something, so proceed to the Great Hall to meet him when you are ready.
Upon arriving, you’ll be able to interact with some of your friends before continuing.
After greeting Hagrid, he’ll ask if you think that his dog, Fang looks all right to you. You have two options to respond with, but these won’t affect the story, so feel free to pick the one you prefer.
Hagrid will tell you that thanks to Mrs. Norris, Fang is now afraid of cats.
He’ll then decide to tell you more about Fang’s fear of cats. This requires earning five stars within three hours. Only one star is needed to pass.
There are 5-cost actions tied to both Hagrid and Fang, so do those whenever you can to save some energy.
Once you’re done, you’ll sum up everything Hagrid told you.
Also, you’ll learn that Hagrid is organizing a pet gathering, which is why he doesn’t want Fang to be afraid of other pets.
He’ll suggest training his dog to be less afraid of cats.
And for that, you’ll need a cat of your own.
Rowan will be quick to offer his help.
Proceed to the Clocktower Courtyard when you are ready.
When you get there, you’ll be able to check out what some of the characters have to say to you. Simply tap on the speech bubbles above them to do so.
Apparently, Rowan brought a lot of cat-related books with him, and he seems eager to share his cat knowledge with you.
You’ll also introduce your cat to Fang, but it seems like he isn’t interested in making any cat friends at the moment.
Rowan will then ask you how to introduce the pets. You have three options to respond with. Each of these will change the following dialogue a bit, but none will have any significant impact on the story, so feel free to go with the option you think is the best.
To introduce pets, you need to obtain five stars within eight hours. One star is needed to pass.
Since the energy requirements for this quest are balanced around Year 2, you should be able to fully complete it with around 85 energy or so. Also, be sure to slide the screen left and right to see all of the available actions.
Once you’re done, you’ll realize that your cat isn’t really fond of dogs. In fact, Fang is even more scared now than he was before.
However, you’ll come up with an interesting idea that might just solve this problem.
And luckily, Ben is there to help you out.
If you’ve been inside the Portrait Vault in Year 5, Ben will reference it here, and you’ll be able to skip one task involving him talking about the fear. If you are not at that point yet, you will have to do this additional task before you can continue with the quest. The following section of the Walkthrough will feature the story after breaking the Curse in the Portrait Vault.
Thankfully, Penny might be able to help you with brewing this potion. Sadly, you’ll have to wait three hours before she can meet with you.
Once the waiting time is over, head to the Great Hall to meet her.
When you arrive, you’ll be able to interact with some of the students before proceeding.
Penny will be happy to see both you and your cat joining her for lunch.
You’ll then tell her the reason why you wanted to meet.
However, you’ll need to do some persuading before she agrees to help you. The task window will display the recommended attribute levels and the gold cost.
This is pretty similar to meal with a friend, but it is relatively easier. You have 7 turns to complete it, which should make this task almost trivial. Just pick the options that highlight Penny’s potion-making talent, and you’ll be done in no time. Below are some of the questions and the answers.
Once you are done, your Hufflepuff friend will agree to lend you her aid.
Proceed to the Artefact Room when you are ready.
Penny will be really excited about brewing this potion.
She’ll then ask you to name some of the ingredients used in Calming Draught. The correct answer is Lavander, Crocodile Heart, and Peppermint.
Brewing the Calming Draught requires earning at least one out of five possible stars within three hours.
There are 5-cost actions tied to Penny and your cat, so prioritize those when they’re available to save some energy.
After completing the task, Penny will realize that you want to give this potion to Hagrid’s dog.
Obviously, there’s no telling if the potion would work as intended on a pet.
Just as she was saying that your cat decided to try some of the potion drops that spilled while you were brewing it. This “calmed” your pet quite a bit.
You’ll decide to quickly take your cat to the Hospital Wing, so proceed there when you’re ready.
Upon arriving, you’ll thank Ben for meeting you.
Apparently, Fang is still very afraid of cats.
As for Madam Pomfrey, she won’t be pleased seeing animals in her hospital.
You’ll kindly ask her to help your cat and you’ll explain what happened.
Needless to say, she’ll be very surprised to hear that your cat drank Calming Draught. You have two options to explain yourself. Each of these will lead to the same outcome, so feel free to pick the one you prefer.
Eventually, Madam Pomfrey will agree to examine your cat and see if there’s anything she can do to help. This requires earning five stars within eight hours. One star is needed to pass.
There should be a fair amount of 5-cost actions available here, which will make this task a bit easier to complete.
After you’re done, Madam Pomfrey will say that your cat is just sleeping.
However, she’ll suggest consulting a cat expert just to be sure.
Thankfully, you know someone that might be able to help you.
Sadly, there is a waiting period of four hours before you can continue. Since this quest is not time-limited, it is somewhat recommended to simply wait for this timer to run out.
Once the waiting time is over, proceed to the Transfiguration Classroom.
Professor McGonagall will be surprised to see you bring pets into her classroom.
You’ll be quick to explain the situation to her.
She’ll be very curious to know how you got the Calming Draught. You have three options to respond with. While these won’t affect the outcome of the quest, Professor McGonagall will get angry if you pick the third option, so it is recommended not to go with that one.
Eventually, she’ll tell you that your cat will be fine, so there’s nothing to worry about.
Shortly after, you’ll ask if she could help Fang with his fear of cats.
And thankfully, she’ll be willing to help Hagrid’s dog by transforming into her animagus form.
Helping Fang overcome his fear requires earning five stars within three hours. Only one star is needed to pass.
Since Scaredy-Cats side quest is balanced around Year 2, you should be able to complete this task with around 50 energy points.
Once you are done, Fang will become a lot happier.
Apparently, he is a lot less afraid of cats now.
Moments later, your cat will wake up.
Not long after that, she’ll suggest having Fang confront Mrs. Norris in order to finally get over his fear of cats.
Sadly, there is a waiting period of three hours before you can do that. Like before, it is recommended to simply wait until this timer expires.
Once you’re able to continue, head to the West Towers Corridor.
Needless to say, Mr. Filch won’t be too happy to see you.
You’ll explain that Fang needs to get over his fear of cats before the pet gathering.
This will intrigue the caretaker. You have the option to invite him and Mrs. Norris if you want or refuse to do so. Bear in mind that this choice will have an effect on the next task, and will be likely referenced in some of the future chapters/quests, so it is highly recommended to invite them to the gathering.
Shortly after, Fang will get to face his fears.
Testing Fang’s bravery requires obtaining at least one out of five stars within an hour.
Under normal circumstances, it would be recommended to simply earn a single star and let the timer expire, but since there’s a waiting period afterward, you should fully complete this task as soon as possible. It should easily be doable with around 25 energy.
Once you’re done, Fang’s fear of cats will be gone, but sadly, it appears that your cat is scared of Mrs. Norris now.
Luckily, Fang will defend your cat and Mrs. Norris will quickly back off.
All that’s left now is to attend the pet gathering. But you’ll have to wait five hours until you can continue.
Proceed to the Training Grounds once the waiting time is over.
Upon arriving, you’ll be able to interact with some of your classmates before continuing.
Apparently, there are quite a few pets around here, and Hagrid made sure to create a nice party atmosphere.
He’ll thank you for helping Fang overcome his fear.
And soon enough, the pet gathering will start.
Attending pet gathering requires earning five stars within eight hours. One star is needed to pass.
Be sure to slide the screen left and right to see all the available actions. Both your character and your cat have 5-cost actions tied to them.
Once you complete the task, you’ll notice that Hagrid is really happy with the outcome of this event.
And by the looks of it, so is Fang.
If you invited the caretaker and his cat to the gathering, this is when they’ll show up.
It looks like Mrs. Norris is still angry at Fang.
But Mr. Filch will quickly tell her to behave herself.
After all, he genuinely seems happy and grateful that you invited him and his cat to this gathering.
Shortly after, Scaredy-Cats side quest will come to an end. Hit the Collect button to claim your rewards.
Now that was an interesting quest. Perhaps this is not the last time you’ll get to spend some quality time with one of your pets. Maybe you’ll even get to bring them to some of your curse-breaking adventures!
In any case, thank you for reading and see you soon with more amazing quests and adventures!
