Once you start the quest, Hagrid will ask you to meet him in his garden, so go there when you are ready.
Hagrid will be glad to see you. You’ll ask him to tell you what’s wrong.
He’ll say that he is worried about something and needs your help. You will ask him to tell you what happened.
He’ll tell you about a giant dung beetle that the Ministry recently placed in his care.
According to him, the creature isn’t ready to be released into the wild. To make the matters worse, the giant dung beetle got lost.
You’ll assume that he needs your help with tracking down the creature. By the looks of it, your assumption was correct.
Hagrid will tell you that the giant dung beetle isn’t too dangerous. Unfortunately, he won’t know where to look for it.
You’ll ask him where he last saw the creature. He will tell you that it was recently in his garden. You’ll suggest searching the place since there is a chance the giant dung beetle might still be nearby.
Hagrid will be glad that he called you. He’ll thank you for helping him.
You’ll say that you are going to do your best to find the creature.
The following line will differ, depending on whether or not you’ve adopted the giant dung beetle.
You will ask Hagrid to tell you more about it. He’ll gladly agree to tell you everything he knows.
To learn about the giant dung beetle, you’ll need to earn five stars within one hour. Three stars are needed to pass.
There is a bonus progress action tied to your character. Prioritize it to save a bit of energy.
Unfortunately, you won’t find the giant dung beetle in the garden. However, you will figure out that the creature is probably looking for a large supply of dung.
Hagrid will agree with you. He’ll wonder where the giant dung beetle is.
He will ask if you know anyone at Hogwarts who might have a large supply of dung. There are three options to choose from. The correct answer is Professor Sprout.
You’ll suggest visiting the Herbology classroom to see if the creature is there.
The following lines of dialogue will differ, depending on whether or not you’ve adopted the giant dung beetle.
Shortly after, you will leave Hagrid’s garden. Next, you’ll need to adopt the giant dung beetle.
To do that, you’ll need 30 Red, 25 Blue, and 7 Yellow Notebooks. Also, your Magizoology will need to be at level 4 or higher. Thankfully, this side quest is not time-limited, so you can take as long as you need to collect the necessary notebooks.
Once you are done, proceed to the Herbology classroom to look for the creature. When you arrive, you’ll notice that Professor Sprout is worried about something.
You’ll ask her to tell you what’s wrong. She will say that someone took all of her dragon dung. Without it, her plants won’t be able to grow.
You’ll say that you might be able to help. You will tell her about the giant dung beetle that went missing.
Professor Sprout will say that she needs to get the dung back as soon as possible. You’ll decide to search the classroom and see if you can find any clues.
Searching for clues requires earning five stars within three hours. Three stars are needed to pass.
Be sure to slide the screen left and right to see all the available actions. There are bonus progress actions tied to your character and the empty bags. Focus on those actions if you want to save some energy.
When you are done, you’ll stumble upon a trail of dung. Professor Sprout will assume that the creature took all of her dung.
You’ll also find a dungbomb near the trail. It won’t look like any of the other dungbombs you’ve seen so far. The Professor will point out the obvious.
You’ll quickly realize that Tulip was the one who took the dragon dung.
Professor Sprout will wonder why Tulip stole the dung. There are three options for you to reply with. This choice won’t significantly impact the story, so feel free to pick whichever option you prefer.
In any case, you’ll decide to look for Tulip and see if she really took the dragon dung. Head to the training grounds when you are ready to continue.
As soon as you arrive, you’ll spot Tulip making dungbombs. You’ll also notice the giant dung beetle nearby.
You’ll quickly figure out that she was the one who took Professor Sprout’s dragon dung.
She’ll warn you to keep your distance unless you want to risk setting off one of the dungbombs. She will also say that you shouldn’t poke around other people’s business.
You’ll tell her that Hagrid asked you to look for the giant dung beetle. You will also explain how you found her.
Tulip will admit that she’s impressed. She’ll kindly ask you to leave and let her continue her work.
You’ll wonder why she took all of Professor Sprout’s dragon dung. Your previous choice will take effect here.
You will ask her to tell you why she stole the dung. Sadly, she won’t be willing to talk about it.
You’ll then tell her that you’ll be taking the giant dung beetle and the stolen dung with you. Tulip won’t let you do that.
You’ll then notice the giant dung beetle performing some amazing feats of strength.
Tulip will tell you that she’s planning to make a lot of dungbombs and sell them.
She’ll ask what you think of her plan. There are three options for you to reply with. If you like Tulip, it is recommended to pick the first one. Otherwise, feel free to go with whichever one you prefer.
You will wonder why she needs the money. Instead of answering your question, she will politely tell you to mind your own business.
You’ll try your best to make her realize what she is doing is wrong.
Tulip will get upset upon hearing your words. You’ll apologize for upsetting her. She will say that it wasn’t you.
You’ll ask her to tell you what’s bothering her. Unfortunately, she’ll be hesitant to open up. You’ll decide to try your best to convince her.
To do that, you’ll need to earn five stars within three hours. All five stars are needed to pass, so avoid starting this task if you are low on energy.
There are bonus progress actions tied to Tulip and your character. Prioritize those if you want to save energy.
You’ll remind Tulip that the two of you are friends and that you’ll do everything in your power to help her.
She will thank you for that. She’ll then tell you it is her toad, Dennis, who needs help.
The two of them got separated while she was in Hogsmeade recently. You’ll learn that Dennis got kidnapped by someone.
Tulip will say that she received a ransom Howler from the kidnapper. She’ll explain why she was hesitant to open up.
Her plan was to make enough dungbombs and sell them so she could get money to pay the ransom. However, she won’t be sure if she has enough time.
You’ll notice that she is extremely worried.
You’ll ask if she still has the ransom note. She will tell you that the Howler shredded itself after delivering the message. All that’s left of it are the scraps.
You’ll suggest examining the scraps for clues. That way, you might be able to figure out who kidnapped Dennis.
According to Tulip, the scraps should still be inside the bin in her dorm room. She’ll decide to dig them out so that the two of you could examine them in the Ravenclaw common room.
In the meantime, you’ll inform Hagrid that the giant dung beetle is safe. After that, you can return the dragon dung to Professor Sprout.
But before that, you’ll need to spend some time with the creature.
You will need to reach level 3 trust with the giant dung beetle before you can continue. Since this side quest is not time-limited, you can take as long as you need to complete this task.
When you are done, proceed to the Ravenclaw Common Room to meet with Tulip. Upon arriving, you’ll notice the speech bubbles above some of your classmates. Tap on those if you are curious to see what they have to say.
You’ll thank Tulip for inviting you to Ravenclaw Common Room. If your character is a Ravenclaw, you’ll thank her for agreeing to show you the ransom note.
Hopefully, by examining the Howler scraps, you’ll be able to figure out where Dennis is or who took him. Tulip will thank you for helping her.
You’ll tell her that Hagrid was quite happy once you told him you found the giant dung beetle. He even said that the creature can stay with you for as long as it likes.
Tulip will notice that the giant dung beetle likes you a lot. You’ll comment on that.
The creature will seem to agree with you.
Tulip will be glad to have the giant dung beetle on your side. Moments later, Tulip and you will start examining the Howler scraps.
To complete this task, you will need to earn five stars within three hours. Since all five stars are needed to pass, it is not recommended to start with an empty energy bar.
There are bonus progress actions tied to the scraps and the giant dung beetle. Prioritize those if you want to save some energy.
You’ll notice golden stains on some of the scraps. Tulip will say that they have a particular scent.
You’ll both agree that it is most likely Butterbeer. After giving it some thought, you’ll figure out that the kidnapper probably wrote the message in the Hog’s Head Inn.
You will suggest going there immediately. You’ll notice the worried look on Tulip’s face, so you’ll ask her about it.
She will agree that the two of you should definitely follow up on the lead.
However, she will be worried something bad could happen. There are three options for you to reply with. While this choice won’t significantly change the story, if you like Tulip, it is somewhat recommended to pick the first option.
You’ll tell Tulip to bring some of her homemade dungbombs if she is still feeling nervous. They’ll definitely come in handy in case you run into the kidnapper. Tulip will agree with you.
Moments later, you will leave the place. Go to the Hog’s Head Inn when you are ready to continue. Once you arrive, you’ll be able to interact with some of the characters and see what they have to say.
Tulip will say you were right when you said that all kinds of people can be found in the Hog’s Head Inn.
Still, you’ll need to figure out where the kidnapper went. Tulip will say there is a chance some of the patrons saw something.
You will decide to talk to some of them. You’ll approach a pair sitting at one of the tables and ask if they’ve recently seen anyone writing Howlers.
Tulip will describe Dennis to them. Instead of answering your question, the dark wizard will rudely tell you to go away.
You’ll ask the dark witch the same question. Unfortunately, you won’t get any answers from her, either.
Tulip will start getting worried. Perhaps a different approach will be more effective…
Suddenly, the giant dung beetle will get close to the pair sitting at the table and start making some threatening sounds.
Both of them will be visibly disturbed by the creature. The dark witch will ask you to call it off.
You’ll decide to use the situation to your advantage. Luckily, this will seem to work, and the pair will be willing to talk.
To interrogate the patrons, you’ll need to earn five stars within eight hours. All five stars are needed to pass.
There is a bonus progress action tied to the dark wizard. Prioritize it if you want to save some energy.
As it turns out, they did see someone writing Howlers recently. According to the man, it was a dark witch.
You’ll ask if either of them saw where she was headed. The woman will tell you that the dark witch went in the direction of Knockturn Alley.
By the looks of it, there is a good chance you might find Dennis’ kidnapper there. However, you’ll need to act fast if you are to catch the culprit.
Tulip will tell you that facing the kidnapper alone could be incredibly dangerous. You’ll remind her that you’ll have the giant dung beetle on your side.
Without a doubt, its backup could help you immensely.
Still, you’ll need to hurry up before the kidnapper gets away. Shortly after, you’ll leave the Hog’s Head Inn.
You will need to reach max level trust with the giant dung beetle before you can continue. Thankfully, this side quest is not time-limited, so take as long as you need to complete this task.
When you are done, go to Knockturn Alley to look for the kidnapper. When you arrive, you will notice the speech bubbles above some of the characters. Tap on those if you are curious to see what they have to say.
You’ll ask Tulip to keep her eyes open since there is a good chance the dark witch who kidnapped Dennis is nearby.
Suddenly, Tulip will spot her toad. You’ll hear someone yelling at him. Moments later, the dark witch will show up.
She will introduce herself as Corrine Cribb. If this is not your first time meeting her, these lines will be different.
She’ll assume that you’ve come for the toad. Tulip will make it clear that she’s the toad’s owner.
Cribb will ask her to pay up the ransom. Having no other option, you’ll take out your wand. Unfortunately, Cribb will disarm both Tulip and you before you get the chance to cast any spell.
If your character knows wandless magic, you’ll attempt to cast some spells wandlessly.
Cribb will deflect your spells, so you’ll have to figure out some other way to deal with her. After giving it a bit of thought, you’ll decide to use the dungbombs.
The task window will display the recommended attribute levels as well as the cost of each attempt.
This is one of the most difficult duels in the game. There are a few reasons for that. Firstly, the recommended attribute levels will be similar to your own attributes, so you won’t be able to get any attribute advantage. Secondly, during this duel, you cannot use any spells, and your actions are fairly limited.
In the Aggressive stance, you can throw a dungbomb that deals 8 points of base damage and has a chance to deal some additional damage over time.
In the Sneaky stance, you can command the giant dung beetle to attack, which deals 5 points of base damage and has a chance to stun your opponent for 2 turns.
Lastly, in the Defensive stance, you can use the Wiggenweld potion to heal, or you can throw a vial for 5 points of base damage.
One strategy you can use involves going Sneaky on a first turn. If you get lucky, you will stun Cribb for two turns. While she is stunned, you can go Aggressive and throw dungbombs at her. Repeat this process, and with some luck, you will win the duel.
If you don’t get the stun effect, you’ll need to go Sneaky again until you eventually get lucky. Bear in mind that if you don’t get the stun effect during the first two turns, you will most likely end up losing the duel. Still, with a bit of luck, you will win the duel using this strategy.
In the end, Cribb won’t be able to bear the stench of the dungbombs. Having no other options, she’ll decide to let Tulip take the toad.
Your friend will be immensely happy about that.
You’ll demand some answers. Cribb will say that she simply saw an opportunity to make some quick money, and she took it.
Unfortunately for her, things didn’t really go according to her plan. You’ll decide to turn her over to the authorities.
Sadly, she will apparate away before you get the chance to do anything.
Tulip won’t be too happy about it. There are two options for you to reply with. Since you were able to safely rescue Dennis, it is somewhat recommended to pick the first option.
Your friend will be glad that her toad is safe and sound. As it turned out, the giant dung beetle was immensely helpful.
You’ll decide to bring it back to Hagrid. Head to the Desert Dunes area of the Magical Creatures Reserve when you are ready to continue.
Hagrid will thank you for bringing back the giant dung beetle.
Apparently, the word has spread about your dungbomb duel with Corrine Cribb.
Hagrid will be curious to hear your opinion on her. There are two options to respond with. While this choice won’t significantly impact the story, picking the second option will result in some interesting lines of dialogue, so you might want to go with that one.
Hagrid will then ask you to help him unload a cart of dragon dung. While doing that, you’ll be able to tell him the whole story.
To unload the cart, you’ll need to earn five stars within three hours. All five stars are needed to pass, so avoid starting this task if you are low on energy.
There are bonus progress actions tied to your character, Hagrid, and Dennis. Prioritize those if you want to save some energy.
The giant dung beetle will seem very happy.
According to Hagrid, it is all thanks to your adventure. You’ll say that thanks to its help, you were able to rescue Dennis.
Hagrid will tell you that Muggles used to call it Super Beetle.
Now, the giant dung beetle is no longer a circus attraction. However, even without a cape, the creature is still quite super.
This will conclude the Amazing Adventures of the Spectacular Giant Dung Beetle side quest. Hit the Collect button to claim your rewards. You will receive 500 Experience points and 200 Friendship experience with Hagrid.
What an adventure! Thanks to the giant dung beetle’s help, you were able to rescue Dennis from Corrine Cribb. On top of that, you also helped the creature find a new home in the Magical Creatures Reserve.
Thank you for reading and see you soon in the Wizarding World!
