Puppy Dog Tales
Introduction
Hello everyone, welcome to our Walkthrough for Puppy-Dog Tales Side Quest of Harry Potter Hogwarts Mystery. This quest should be available for students of Year 3 and above, and it should unlock during Chapter 7 of Year 3.
In order to complete it, you need to have a Crup Puppy, aka Cruppy pet. To obtain this pet, you need to spend 120 brown notebooks. For most players, this might take a while, since these notebooks are not so easy to get.

When you arrive, you will be able to interact with some of your friends and see what they have to say. Upon greeting Hagrid, you will notice that there are a lot of Crup puppies around.
He will quickly explain why these adorable creatures are in his garden.
Hagrid will say he thought that the Crup puppies would make you happy. If you completed Year 5 Chapter 32, this line will be slightly different.
You will then get to play with Crup puppies. Doing so requires earning five stars within three hours. One star is needed to pass.
There are plenty of bonus progress actions available here, which should make things a bit easier.
Once you are done, most of the puppies will be too tired to continue playing. Hagrid will tell you that Professor Kettleburn is likely going to ask some students to train those Crup pups.
Also, there will be an interesting event featuring Cruppies. Hagrid will offer to let you train one of them.
He’ll look around, trying to find one Crup puppy that isn’t taken by other students. Sadly, it appears that every single one of them is taken already.
If you have a Crup puppy pet, you will mention it here. Otherwise, Hagrid will suggest you adopt one.
Shortly after, you will be tasked with getting a Crup puppy. To do so, you need to collect 120 brown notebooks. This might take a while, but since this side quest is not time-limited, you don’t need to rush it.
Once you get a Crup puppy, Hagrid will ask you to introduce it to him and Fang. Proceed to his hut when you are ready.
Hagrid will be very happy to see you again. You will introduce your Crup puppy to him and Fang.
Needless to say, Hagrid will be very pleased to meet your Cruppy. Fang, however, will be a bit jealous.
Shortly after, Hagrid will suggest letting your Cruppy and Fang play for a bit while he tells you about Crup training.
To do that, you need to earn five stars within an hour. Only one star is required to pass.
Both Fang and your Cruppy have actions with bonus progress tied to them, so prioritize those to save some energy.
When Hagrid is done explaining, you’ll be uncertain which training method to choose. According to him, gentleness is the way to go.
He’ll then ask you a question about Crups. The correct answer is Muggles.
Hagrid will then advise you to start your Cruppy’s training as soon as possible. When you are ready, head to the Clocktower Courtyard to get started.
Once you arrive, you will be able to check out what some of the characters have to say by tapping on their speech bubbles.
You’ll introduce your Crup pup to Penny.
Penny will tell you she decided not to train a Crup of her own. She’ll say that she’d get too attached, and she cannot bring a Crup home for the summer since they don’t like Muggles.
Because of that, she decided to help you train your Cruppy.
You will tell her you’re trying to teach your Crup pup how to roll over. You will ask it to perform this trick.
Sadly, your pup will just sit there, glaring at you with a confused look.
According to Penny, you might want to try being more strict. Still, you won’t be certain which approach to go with. Penny will suggest working together to figure out how to train your Cruppy.
To complete this task, you need to earn five stars within three hours. Only one star is required to pass.
Both Penny and your character have bonus progress actions linked to them. Focus on those actions if you want to save some energy.
When you are done, Penny will suggest you try the trick again. You’ll nod and ask your Crup pup to roll over.
Sadly, this won’t yield any success.
Perhaps using snacks will motivate your Crup pup to perform the trick? Penny will say that you can find treats in the Artefact Room, so go there when you are ready.
As it was proven many times before, you can find almost anything in the Artefact Room.
Suddenly, your Cruppy will start barking loudly. This could potentially spell trouble for you, so you’ll have to calm it down somehow.
You can choose to go with either a stern or gentle approach. This choice will influence a few dialogues and some scenes, but ultimately, it won’t change the outcome of the quest, so feel free to pick whichever choice you prefer. Also, keep in mind that Penny will prefer if you go with the stern approach, while Hagrid likes being gentle with pets.
Shortly after, you’ll start looking for treats. To do that, you need to earn five stars within one hour. All five stars are required to pass, so avoid starting this task if you are out of energy.
There are bonus progress actions tied to your character, the board, and the cabinet. Focus on those actions to save energy.
When you are done, you’ll manage to find some treats for your Crup pup. Penny will suggest trying the trick again.
You’ll agree with her and decide to give it a go once again. This time, your Cruppy will obey your command.
If you took a gentle approach, your Crup puppy will start barking loudly. However, if you were stern, it will just quietly woof.
Penny will comment on its behavior.
She’ll then ask you to bring your Cruppy to Hagrid’s garden. When you are ready, go there to find out what she’s planning.
Upon arriving, you will be able to interact with some of your friends. As always, Hagrid will be more than happy to see you.
You’ll be curious to know why Penny invited you here. You’ll also notice three of your friends playing with their Cruppies.
Perhaps this is related to the tricks exhibition? All Hagrid will say is that your friends are practicing for it. He’ll also suggest you join them.
Practicing for the exhibition requires earning at least one out of five stars within eight hours.
There are actions with bonus progress linked to Fang and Hagrid. Prioritize those actions if you are looking to save some energy.
After you are done, Penny will arrive, excited to tell you the news.
As it appears, there will be a competition. Sadly, this means she cannot help you with your Cruppy’s training anymore.
Hagrid will ask you not to overburden your pet with training. Penny will then comment on the approach you took back in the Artefact Room.
Hagrid’s reaction will differ, depending on the decision you made. Needless to say, he’ll be very happy if you took a gentle approach.
For the next task, proceed to the Potions classroom. You will ask Professor Snape if he has seen the Cauldron Cake you left in the classroom.
Unfortunately, he has more pressing matters to attend to. By the looks of it, the Cruppies that invaded the classroom did so because of your Cauldron Cake.
Professor Snape will ask you to help him get the Crup puppies under control.
Your Cruppy will start barking at the other ones. And obviously, Snape will make a remark on it.
You can choose to scold your Crup puppy or defend it. This choice will affect some of the dialogues, but it won’t have any effect on the outcome of the quest. Also, it’s worth noting that Professor Snape will react much better if you choose to scold your pup.
He’ll then ask you to get all of the Crup puppies under control. To do so, you need to earn five stars within three hours. All five stars are required to pass, so avoid starting this task if you are low on energy.
Your character, Snape, and one of the Cruppies have bonus progress actions tied to them. Focus on those if you want to save some energy.
Shortly after you’re done, Liz and Barnaby will enter the classroom, looking for their Crup puppies.
The Professor will demand an explanation. Your friends will quickly start explaining what happened. Snape will look at them for a second and ask them to remove the dogs from his classroom.
Liz will apologize to him. The following lines will differ, depending on your previous choice.
You’ll then decide to grab your Cauldron Cake and head to the exhibition. Before leaving the classroom, you will ask Professor Snape if he wants to come as well. Sadly, he won’t feel too excited about it.
When you are ready, proceed to the Training Grounds to join the exhibition. Once you arrive, you will notice the speech bubbles above some of your friends. Tap on those if you want to see what they have to say to you.
Upon greeting you, Penny will ask if you and your Cruppy are ready. If you took a gentle approach, Hagrid will give you some words of encouragement. Otherwise, Penny will say she’s glad you went with the strict training.
Soon after, the exhibition will start.
This task will require earning five stars within eight hours. One star is needed to pass.
There are actions with bonus progress tied to Barnaby, Charlie, and your character. Prioritize those to save some energy.
Once the exhibition is over, Penny will be faced with a difficult decision. But in the end, she will declare that the winner is your Crup puppy!
She’ll then ask you and your Cruppy to demonstrate rolling over.
Hagrid will be very proud of you. He’ll once again comment on the training approach you took.
You will learn that all of the other Crup pups are soon getting sent to their new owners. Luckily, your Cruppy isn’t going anywhere. Hagrid will tell you he is planning to have a proper send-off for all of the other pups.
When you are ready, proceed to his garden. Upon arriving, you will notice the speech bubbles above some of the characters. Tap on those if you are curious to see what they have to say.
Hagrid will tell you he wanted to allow your Cruppy to say goodbye to the other ones. Needless to say, your pup will be happy about it.
Penny will be very glad that she got the chance to spend some more time with other Crup puppies.
Shortly after, you will get to say goodbye to them. Doing so requires earning five stars within three hours. One star is needed to pass.
There are bonus progress actions linked to your Cruppy and one other pup. Prioritize those actions to save some energy.
Once you’re done, you will thank Hagrid for organizing everything. You will also thank him and Penny for helping you train your Crup pup.
Of course, Penny will be very modest about it.
And you’ll also thank your puppy for everything. One more time, you’ll ask it to roll over.
And your Cruppy will happily do so.
With this, Puppy-Dog Tales side quest will come to an end. Hit the Collect button to claim your reward. You will earn 200 Experience points.
That was one adorable, cuteness-filled quest. Hopefully, we will get to see more quests revolving around pets soon.
