When you start the quest, go to Hagrid’s Garden. Once you are there, Hagrid will thank you for your fast arrival. You will ask him why his message sounded urgent.
He’ll explain that Argus Filch has discovered a gnome infestation at Hogwarts. The following lines of dialogue will differ, based on whether you already have the gnome.
If you’ve done de-gnoming before, you will get an extra line of dialogue.
You will ask Hagrid why he is not letting Mr. Filch deal with the problem. Hagrid will explain that Mr. Filch only cares about solving the problem by any means necessary, without caring for the creature. He’ll further describe the seriousness of the situation. If you can’t remove the gnomes fast enough, or if you miss even one, Mr. Filch will step in.
Your old friend will ask you what is more important in de-gnoming, speed or safety. This choice will influence some dialogue later, but it won’t greatly impact the overall story.
Hagrid will propose to consider various de-gnoming techniques and to find one that best suits the task at hand. To complete this task you need to earn five stars within one hour. All five stars are required to pass.
Not only that this is a short task, but it has bonus progress actions tied to all the characters you can click. In other words, you won’t need to spend much energy.
You will conclude that picking up and throwing the gnomes is the best de-gnoming method. The following lines of dialogue will differ based on your previous choice.
The next part of the dialogue will differ based on whether you already have a gnome.
Your next task is to adopt the gnome. To adopt it, you will need 70 Red and 10 Blue Notebooks. Your Magizoology level should be at level 6. If you’ve already done that, you can skip this part.
Hagrid will inform you that he found the gnome infestation at the Training Grounds. Once you are there, Hagrid will be glad that you brought your Gnome with you. He could help in de-gnoming. Hagrid will point out that the Training Grounds is such a mess and you will quickly take a look for yourself.
Hagrid will say that he understands why Mr. Filch is so upset, even more so because gnomes also swear.
The following line of dialogue will differ, based on your choice in the previous task.
To complete the next task, you need to earn five stars within three hours. Three stars are required to pass.
Bonus progress action is tied to your character. Prioritize this action to save a bit of energy.
You will be delighted once you finish the job, but your Gnome won’t be happy. He will try to tell you something.
You will spot one more Gnome that is left on the Training Grounds. Hagrid will spot he is missing an ear. The Gnome won’t be happy to hear that.
Hagrid will try to get him but the rogue gnome will quickly go back to its hole. Suddenly, Mr. Filch will arrive.
Hagrid will explain he wanted to help him with the gnome problem, but Mr. Filch won’t be pleased. Hagrid will further try to justify what you were doing.
The caretaker will respond that Hagrid is making his job harder. You can reply in two ways. These options will influence some dialogue that will follow, but they don’t impact the story. Mr. Filch will like the first option.
Mr. Filch will say that it is time to do things his way. He’ll want to release a Jarvey on the grounds. You can agree with his idea or protest.
Whatever you choose, you will come to the agreement that releasing the Jarvey will cause an even greater mess, so the caretaker will give you one more chance to catch the rogue gnome. If you fail again, he will release the magical beast for real.
You will thank him for his understanding and he will leave the Training Grounds. Because the Rogue Gnome could be anywhere as Hagrid pointed out, you will decide to ask your friends for help.
Go to the Clockwork Tower to meet with your friends. Once you arrive there with your gnome friend, you can check what your friends are thinking about by tapping the speech bubbles above their heads. You will thank everyone for meeting with you. You will quickly update friends with what happened after the gnome infestation.
Charlie will be shocked. You will point out that the rogue gnome needs a new place to stay if you catch it. You and Charlie will be determined to find the solution and prevent Jarvey’s release. To complete the next task, you need to earn five stars within three hours. All five stars are required to pass.
There are bonus progress actions tied to your character. Prioritize these actions to save some energy. Don’t forget to slide the screen left and right to check all the available actions.
You will conclude that the Burrow can be the safest place for a gnome. If you completed the “Party at the Weasleys” adventure, you will get additional lines of dialogue.
You’ll propose to move the rogue gnome to the Burrow. Charlie will point out that you can’t bring him there without the permission of Charlie’s parents. It would be impossible to convince his Mum, but you could try to convince his Dad. He will point out that it’s best if you do that without him because Arthur is mad at him for accidentally breaking a Muggle artifact.
Charlie will ask you if you think you can convince Arthur on your own. This choice won’t have a significant impact on the story, so feel free to choose the option you like.
Charlie will explain how to persuade Arthur. If you can get your gnome to make Arthur laugh, he’ll definitely agree to let the rogue gnome stay. You will ask where Arthur is now. Your friend will explain that his Dad is currently at Hogwarts in the Artefact room. He is searching for a Muggle item to replace the one Charlie broke. You will decide to go there.
Before you continue with the story, you need to reach level 4 of Trust with your gnome, if you haven’t already. If it’s already level 4 or above, this task will be skipped.
Go to the Artefact Room when you are ready. Once there, you will greet Mr. Weasly. His reaction will differ, based on whether you met him before.
He will be puzzled when he sees your gnome.
You will introduce your gnome and Arthur will react very positively. You’ll quickly explain what happened at the Training Grounds and that Mr. Filch plans to release a Jarvey.
You will mention that you were wondering if he would allow you to place the gnome in the garden at The Burrow. Unfortunately, Arthur will remind you that Molly won’t allow it.
You will tell Arthur that maybe your gnome can convince him. To complete the next task, you need to earn five stars within eight hours. Three stars are required to pass.
There is only one bonus progress action and it’s tied to Mr. Weasly. Prioritize this action to save some energy.
Your gnome will find the Muggle artifact, but he’ll manage to clumsily fall as well.
Arthur will be happy with this discovery. You will ask him if he’ll help you now while your Gnome will look at him with a cute smile. Finally, Mr. Weasly will change his mind.
He won’t be sure if he should tell Molly about this. This choice will impact some of the dialogue later, but it won’t change the story.
Arthur will agree to your terms. He will point out that you are getting ahead of yourself because you still didn’t catch the rogue gnome. You will recall that Charlie is a de-gnoming expert and he could help. You will get an additional line of dialogue if you completed the “Party at the Weasleys” adventure.
Go to the Care of Magical Creatures Classroom to meet Charlie. Your friend will inform you that he tracked the rogue gnome to the Care of Magical Creatures Classroom. You will even notice the fresh piles of dirt on the ground. The rogue gnome must be somewhere in the area.
Charlie will point out that you need a sound strategy to draw out this quite clever creature. He will then ask you how you want to get the gnome’s attention. This choice will have some minor influence on this task, but it won’t impact the overall story.
Shortly after, you and Charlie will be prepared to catch the gnome. To complete the next task, you need to earn five stars within three hours. All five stars are required to pass.
There is a bonus progress action tied to your character. Prioritize this action to save a bit of energy. During the task, you can see your character trying the method you choose from the previous choice.
The rogue gnome will pop out of the hole, but Charlie won’t be able to catch it on time.
The following line of dialogue will differ based on your previous choice.
He will ask you if you think that the rogue gnome knows what you are up to. This choice won’t have a significant impact on the story, so feel free to choose the option you like.
It seems that you won’t be able to catch the gnome this way. You will wonder if there is a spell that would help you. Charlie will point out that you’ll need something that immobilizes the gnome and makes it easy to carry. The following lines of dialogue will differ based on whether you already learned the Gnomes to Lawn Gnomes spell.
Before you continue with the story, you need to reach level 7 of Trust with your Gnome, if you haven’t already. If it’s already level 7 or above, this task will be skipped (some players reported that you need level 8 of Trust to complete this task).
Go to the Transfiguration Classroom when you are ready to continue. You will explain to Professor McGonagall what happened so far. The following line of dialogue will differ based on your technique to draw the gnome’s attention.
The professor will say that you had the right idea to draw the rogue gnome out but perhaps it needs something to make it feel more comfortable. You will point out that now that you formed a strong bond with your gnome you will have an easier time with that.
You will still have a problem with how to safely transport the gnome once you catch it. The following lines of dialogue will differ based on whether you already learned the Gnomes to Lawn Gnomes spell.
If you haven’t learned the spell earlier, she will propose it now. If you did, she will confirm that this spell is safe and will make the rogue gnome very portable. To complete this task, you need to earn five stars within three hours. All five stars are required to pass.
There is only one bonus progress action and it’s tied to your character. Prioritize this action to save some energy.
Professor McGonagall will say that she thought you everything about Gnomes to Lawn Gnomes spell and all that is left now is for you to practice it. Now that you have a strong bond with your gnome, you can safely practice on it. Shortly after, you will cast the spell.
Luckily, the spell will work.
The professor will congratulate you and you will thank her for her help. You will decide to check on Charlie’s progress. But before you leave, you need to transfigure your gnome back to its original state.
Go to the Quidditch Pitch when you are ready to continue the story. You will thank Charlie for tracking down the rogue gnome. You will decide to go over the plan one more time.
First, you will use your gnome to draw out the rogue gnome. After that, once you have a clear shot, you will cast the Gnomes to Lawn Gnomes spell. Lastly, you and Charlie will safely transport the rogue gnome to the Burrow.
To complete the next task, you need to earn five stars within eight hours. All five stars are required to pass. It is recommended to start this task when your energy bar is full.
Bonus progress actions are tied to the rogue gnome and your character. Prioritize these actions to save a bit of energy.
The first part of the plan will be successful and the rogue gnome is drawn out from the hole.
You will hesitate to cast the transfiguration spell on it because your gnome is close as well. Charlie will ask you if there is something unique about the rogue gnome. The correct answer is “It’s missing an ear”.
You will easily spot the gnome who lacks one ear.
Once you identify the target, you’ll start casting the spell.
You’ll succeed!
Suddenly, Mr. Filch will appear. He won’t believe you solved the problem because he can still see one gnome. You will try to convince him it’s your gnome. Mr. Filch will demand proof. You will explain that the rogue gnome is missing one ear.
Luckily, this proof will be enough to convince him and he will leave you alone. The only thinking left is to transfer the rogue lawn gnome to The Burrow. Go to the Garden at the Burrow when you are ready to continue.
Once you are there, Charlie will express his relief that you used the Gnomes to Lawn Gnomes spell. It would be much harder without it. The following line will differ based on your earlier choice.
Shortly after, Hagrid will arrive. He will mention that Mr. Filch is in a sour mood. You will explain what happened and how your plan worked. Hagrid will praise your plan, but you will point out that your gnome helped a lot. Hagrid will be happy to hear that and he’ll think that your gnome deserves some recognition for helping its fellow creature.
To complete the next task, you need to earn five stars within three hours. All five stars are required to pass.
There is a bonus progress action tied to Hagrid. Prioritize this action to save a bit of energy.
Your gnome will appreciate all the compliments.
The following line of dialogue will differ based on your previous choice for the de-gnoming approach.
Next, you need to return the rouge gnome to its original form.
You will welcome the rogue gnome to its new home. He will be a little shy, so you will encourage him to dig some holes in the garden.
Hagrid will point out that your gnome was of huge help because you made a strong bond with him. He will also have a few more words for you.
This will mark the end of Rogue Gnome Side Quest for Harry Potter Hogwarts Mystery. Hit the Collect button to claim your rewards. You will receive 500 Experience Points and 200 Friendship Experience for Hagrid.
Although the rogue gnome was nasty and hard to catch, you decided to help the creature, to save it from Jarvey, and you found a new home for it. Hagrid loves people with such a good heart for all magical creatures, and truth be told, it’s difficult to love gnomes.
