Introduction

Hello everyone, welcome to our Walkthrough for A Helping Hand Side Quest of Harry Potter Hogwarts Mystery. This is another creature-related side quest that will allow you to improve your friendship level with Hagrid.

Walkthrough

This quest should become available after you reach Chapter 6 of Year 4. Upon unlocking it, Hagrid will ask you to meet with him in the Clocktower Courtyard, so proceed there when you are ready.

When you arrive, you will notice the speech bubbles above some of your classmates. Tap on those if you are interested to see what they have to say.

You’ll ask Hagrid if he wanted to talk with you. He will nod and say that he recently came into possession of an interesting magical creature. According to him, the creature is quite the “handful”.

You’ll ask him to be a bit more specific. He’ll say that someone at the Hog’s Head inn told him about a rare Quintaped which needed to be rescued.

Needless to say, Hagrid was quick to take it upon himself to rescue the magical creature.

If you completed The Quibbler: Fight for the Front Page adventure, you will get some extra lines of dialogue.

Hagrid will go on and say that the Ministry wants to untransfigure the Quintaped. This will slightly confuse you.

Your friend will say that Quintapeds used to be humans once, before becoming magical creatures.

Apparently, the Ministry wants to prove that theory, but up until now, they were unable to find a cooperative Quintaped.

You’ll assume that those creatures don’t want to revert back to their original human form.

According to Hagrid, the creature he rescued definitely doesn’t like the idea of becoming human again. Because of that, your friend wants to visit the Ministry and plead on Quintaped’s behalf.

But in order to do that, he will need someone to keep an eye on the creature while he is away.

You’ll instantly offer to help him. Hagrid will warn you that Quintapeds can be very dangerous. That is why he wanted to be sure you are the right person for the job.

He’ll ask you to describe a Quintaped with one word. There are three options to choose from. If you like Hagrid, it is somewhat recommended to go with the first option.

Once again, he will remind you how dangerous those magical creatures can be. You will try to convince Hagrid to trust you. He’ll say that he is simply worried about you getting hurt.

He will decide to ask you some questions before making a final decision. The task window will display all the relevant information. Hit Start once you are ready to begin.

In order to convince Hagrid, you will have to prove that you are capable of handling the Quintaped. The recommended attributes for this task will be very similar to your attribute levels, but given that you have seven turns to complete the task, you probably won’t run into too much trouble. Questions and answers are shown below:

  • What if yeh run into trouble? – I’d find a Professor immediately! (Knowledge)
  • What’s most important? – Being careful and staying safe. (Knowledge)
  • Why’re Quintapeds dangerous? – They like to eat human flesh. (Knowledge)

Once you are done, Hagrid will be certain that you are the right person for the job.

If you completed some of the other creature-related side quests, you will get some extra lines of dialogue.

In any case, Hagrid will be glad to have you help him. He’ll ask you to come to his garden once you’re ready to get introduced to the Quintaped.

Before you are able to continue, you will need to unlock Quintaped in the Magical Creatures Reserve.

You can find this magical creature in the Foggy Moor area, and to adopt it, you will need 65 Red, 60 Blue, and 10 Yellow Notebooks. This is definitely not a small amount, but since this side-quest is not time-limited, you can take your time collecting notebooks.

Once you adopt the creature, head to Hagrid’s Garden to continue. Your friend will be very glad to see you arrive.

Once again, you’ll say you’re more than happy to help. He will then decide to introduce you to Caelan the Quintaped.

Unfortunately, even after waiting for a while, Caelan won’t show up. Hagrid will figure out he is likely hiding somewhere in the pumpkin patch.

He’ll ask if you have any idea what could be bothering the Quintaped. There are two options to choose from. This choice will have a slight impact on a dialogue later on, but it won’t change the story significantly.

You’ll suggest looking around to find Caelan. Hagrid will say that searching for Quintaped would more than likely scare him off, so he will propose an alternative solution. He’ll say that you need to find a way to make Quintaped feel welcome and safe.

Luring the Quintaped out of hiding requires earning five stars within three hours. All five stars are needed to pass, which is why you shouldn’t start this task with an empty energy bar.

The only bonus progress action here is linked to Hagrid, so prioritize his actions if you want to save a bit of energy.

You will suggest luring Caelan out with a snack. Hagrid will like the idea. You’ll take the feedbag and toss a slab of meat to lure the Quintaped.

Your plan will work, and soon after, Caelan will show up and slowly walk towards the food.

Hagrid will ask you to approach the Quintaped and introduce yourself. Just as you’re about to do that, you will notice that something’s wrong with Caelan’s arm.

Hagrid will figure out that one of his limbs got broken. If you previously suspected that Caelan might be hurt, you will get an additional line of dialogue here.

You will suggest healing his limb with some of Madam Pomfrey’s Skele-Gro. Hagrid will agree that it is a good idea.

However, before you get to do that, you will need to get friendly with the Quintaped. You will wonder how to do that.

Hagrid will simply say that you should make Caelan feel at home. Also, there is plenty of creature experts that could help you with that.

You’ll decide to ask Professor Kettleburn for help. To make things easier, you’ll also ask some of the other creature experts you know to help you make Caelan feel at home.

Head back to Hagrid’s Garden once you are ready to befriend Caelan. You will thank everyone for agreeing to meet you.

Professor Kettleburn will ask if there’s anything they can do to help. You will explain that you need to befriend Caelan so that you could safely fix his broken limb.

The Professor will seem to recognize the name.

He’ll tell you that Caelan is probably the nephew of Quintius MacBoon, a member of the MacBoon Clan from the Isle of Drear. You’ll admit that Hagrid didn’t tell you much about Caelan’s history.

Barnaby will mention that he read an article about the MacBoons in The Quibbler. If you completed The Quibbler: Fight for the Front Page adventure, you will get a nice nod to it.

You’ll chuckle and say that he shouldn’t believe everything he reads in The Quibbler. According to Professor Kettleburn, the story about MacBoons is probably true.

He’ll go on and tell you some things about them. According to the story he heard, MacBoons were quite rough and tumble brood. They enjoyed brawling, dueling, and sorts of unsavory acts.

You’ll figure out that they were quite a troublesome clan. Professor Kettleburn will nod and explain that they eventually got transfigured by a rival family, the McClivert Clan.

Barnaby will say that growing up in an awful family isn’t easy. That will give you an idea. You will recall Hagrid saying that you should make Caelan feel at home.

Perhaps he wanted you to remind him of his past life?

Professor Kettleburn will suggest testing your idea.

Reminding Caelan of home requires earning five stars within eight hours. All five stars are needed to pass.

There are actions with bonus progress tied to Charlie and Professor Kettleburn. Prioritize those if you want to save as much energy as possible.

You will suggest telling Caelan some tall tales from your time at Hogwarts.

Charlie will wonder about the story you are planning to start with. There are two options to choose from. Both of those will lead to the same outcome, so feel free to pick whichever one you prefer.

The following dialogue will differ, depending on your choice.

Caelan will seem to like the start of your story, and you will be able to notice it.

You’ll go on and tell him the rest of it. The Quintaped will slowly approach you, and place himself near you.

Professor Kettleburn will happily say that you’ve managed to make Caelan feel at home. You’ll decide to make him more comfortable before contacting Madam Pomfrey.

You will need to reach Level 3 Trust with the Quintaped before you can continue. Since the side quest is not time-limited, you can take your time doing it.

Once you are done with that, you can proceed to the Training Grounds to meet with Madam Pomfrey.

You will thank her for agreeing to meet with you and explain that you need some Skele-Gro to heal Caelan’s arm.

Madam Pomfrey will say that she is hesitant to help, especially since the Quintapeds are dangerous magical creatures.

You’ll tell her that Caelan is your friend. She will point out that she’s not accustomed to healing vicious creatures.

With a desperate voice, you will ask her for help.

She will tell you to give her a good reason to heal the Quintaped. There are three options to reply with. Each of those will end up with a similar outcome, so feel free to take your pick.

She will admit that you do have a point, but she’ll still be hesitant to help. You’ll decide to convince her to change her mind.

This requires earning five stars within an hour. Three stars are needed to pass.

There are two bonus progress actions linked to Caelan. Focus on his actions if you want to save some energy.

In the end, Madam Pomfrey will agree that you made some valid points. You will ask if it means she will help fix Caelan’s arm.

She will nod and say that the creature shouldn’t be left to suffer. You will thank her for agreeing to help Caelan.

She will hand you a vial of Skele-Gro before leaving the place.

Once again, you will thank her for being kind enough to help. You will then decide to fix Caelan’s arm.

Just as you’re about to use the Skele-Gro, Merula will show up with her wand at the ready.

You’ll be surprised to see her. She will say that she’s been following you for quite a while.

Suddenly, she will aim her wand at Caelan and cast the Stunning Spell. Somehow, he will manage to avoid her spell and run away.

You will ask Merula to explain her actions. Instead of directly answering your question, she will point out that you are harboring a dangerous magical creature on school grounds.

She will add that the Ministry of Magic wants to untransfigure the Quintaped.

You will explain that you’re only trying to make Caelan feel at home while waiting for Hagrid to come back. Unfortunately, her actions pretty much ruined all your progress.

Merula will calmly say that she is planning to follow the creature and untransfigure it. You will decide to stop her from doing that.

The following task doesn’t involve spending any energy, so you can head to Forest Grove as soon as possible. Upon arriving, you will notice Caelan limping away from Merula.

With a smirk on her face, she will prepare to untransfigure him.

You’ll quickly rush up to her and beg her not to do it. She will point out that the Quintapeds aren’t really the friendliest of the creatures.

She’ll also remind you of the stories about them.

According to her, Caelan deserves whatever fate the Ministry has in store for him.

You’ll tell her she’s wrong about that and say that the two of them have a lot in common. The Most Powerful Witch at Hogwarts won’t like being compared to a Quintaped.

You will smile at her and say that you are right about them having a lot in common. She’ll chuckle and tell you to explain it.

There are two options to reply with. Each of those will lead to a similar outcome, so feel free to pick the option you want.

Merula will take a look at Caelan and say that she feels sorry for him. You’ll ask if she decided to change her mind about untransfiguring him.

After considering things for a moment, she will agree to leave Caelan alone.

You will be glad to hear that. However, there’s still a matter of calming him down before you can administer the Skele-Gro to heal his arm.

Merula will say that she only agreed not to untransfigure Caelan. She will make it clear that she doesn’t want to get close to him.

You’ll tell her not to worry since you already have a plan. You’ll say that you need to remind Caelan of home. The choice you’ve picked earlier on will take effect here.

You’ll explain that telling Caelan a story won’t be enough to calm him down, especially since Merula scared him earlier.

You will suggest staging a duel to remind Caelan of his home. Merula will like your idea.

The task window will display the recommended attribute levels as well as the cost of each attempt. Hit Start when you are ready to begin.

This duel will be quite challenging since the recommended attribute levels will be close to your attributes. There are several ways to approach this duel. One way involves going Sneaky or Aggressive and blasting Merula with Depulso and Flipendo. However, you will need three rounds to win that way.

Another strategy revolves around using Incendio in the first round. There is a high chance to get a burning effect on Merula that way, so during the second round, you can go Sneaky and use Flipendo. This way, you will have a high chance of winning the duel.

However, you will have to be lucky to get a burning effect. Also, if your character gets stunned, it could make things go south. Still, with some luck, you should be able to win against the Most Powerful Witch at Hogwarts.

Merula will why she lost the duel. She’ll say that it was only an exhibition, so she didn’t try hard to win. You will smile at her and say that your plan worked.

Once again, Caelan will approach and place himself near you.

You’ll say that Caelan is starting to trust you again, so soon enough, you should be able to heal his broken arm.

Before attempting to heal him, you will need to reach Level 7 Trust with the Quintaped.

This might take a while, but given that the quest is not limited by time, you don’t need to rush it.

Once you’re able to continue, proceed to the Care of Magical Creatures to heal Caelan.

Upon greeting you, Professor Kettleburn will notice that your bond with the Quintaped has improved significantly since last time.

You will say that you staged a duel in the forest to win over Caelan’s trust.

Charlie will ask if the best duelist won. Merula will assume that he’s mocking her.

Given her strong reaction, Charlie will quickly figure out that she lost the duel.

You will explain that she played her part perfectly. She’ll add that she intentionally let you win, since it was only an exhibition.

Barnaby will be pretty sure that Caelan loved watching the duel.

You will nod and say that you can finally apply Madam Pomfrey’s Skele-Gro to heal his broken limb.

Healing Caelan requires earning five stars within eight hours. All five stars are needed to pass.

There are bonus progress actions linked to Barnaby and your character. Prioritize them whenever they are available if you want to save as much energy as possible.

Luckily, the Skele-Gro will work as intended, and it won’t take long for Caelan’s limb to heal completely.

You’ll wish that Hagrid could be there with you to celebrate the moment. Moments later, your wish will come true.

Hagrid will be happy that you took good care of Caelan. You will ask if he had a meeting with the Ministry.

He will nod and say that he has some news to report. He’ll say that he spoke with Amos Diggory at the Department for Regulation and Control of Magical Creatures.

If you’ve met Mr. Diggory before, you will get some extra lines of dialogue.

Hagrid will happily say that Caelan won’t be untransfigured. You will be delighted to hear that.

Hagrid will also thank you for taking such good care of Caelan and keeping him safe while he was away.

On top of that, the Ministry decided to allow the Quintaped to live on the Magical Creature Reserve.

Upon hearing that, you will smile and happily welcome Caelan to his new home.
