A Hobby A Day Side Quest

Hello everyone, welcome to our Walkthrough for A Hobby A Day Side Quest for Harry Potter Hogwarts Mystery. This side quest is available for students of Year 5 and above. Once you unlock it, Liz will ask you to meet with her in the Great Hall, so go there when you are ready.
[Disclaimer: This walkthrough will feature the gameplay from the perspective of a Year 7 student. Since this side quest is available for students of Year 5 and above, the requirements for certain tasks might be different for you, depending on the year you’re in or the level of your attributes.]

Once you arrive, you will be able to interact with some of the characters and see what they have to say.

You’ll greet Liz and ask if she wanted to meet with you.

She’ll nod and say that she needs your help with something.

You’ll ask her if anything happened.

She will start by informing you of her recent encounter with Penny.

That won’t sound too bad to you.

Unfortunately, things ended up very awkward.

And that’s not everything. Liz also had quite an interesting encounter with the Most Powerful Witch at Hogwarts.

Needless to say, you will be very surprised to hear that.

Liz will ask if you think she’s odd. There are two options to reply with. If you like Liz, it is recommended to pick the first option.

You’ll then ask if there’s anything you can do for her.

As it seems, Liz wants to be less awkward, and she needs your help to achieve that.

She’ll also say that most people know her because of her passion for magical creatures.

You’ll suggest that she try some other hobbies.

Still, Liz will be unsure if that’s a good idea.

You’ll decide to convince her that a new hobby could help with her problem.

The task window will display all the relevant information. Hit Start when you are ready to begin.

This task is very similar to the meal with a friend activity. However, the attribute level requirements here will pretty much always be higher than your own. Because of that, you will need to answers all of the questions correctly in order to complete the task successfully. The images below contain some of the questions and the answers to them.

In the end, Liz will agree to try a new hobby.

She will ask if you could try the hobbies with her.

You’ll ask if she has anything in mind.

She’ll say there are a few hobbies she’s considering.

You’ll suggest trying a hobby that’s not creatures-related.

She’ll think for a bit and say she’d like to try cooking.

Thankfully, you know someone who could help with that.

Head to the Kitchens when you are ready to continue.

Upon arriving, you’ll notice the speech bubbles above some of the house-elves. Tap on those if you are interested to see what they have to say.

Jae will be surprised to see you in the Kitchens.

He’ll ask if you’ve come for ‘you-know-what’.

You’ll give him a questioning look.

As it seems, Jae thought your visit was about Acromantula venom.

Liz will be excited as soon as she hears him mention this magical creature.

He’ll tell her to keep her voice down since he doesn’t want to get into trouble.

Shortly after, Liz will tell him that she’s trying out new hobbies.

If you know that cooking is Jae’s passion, you will get some additional dialogue lines.

Moments later, Pitts will arrive and he won’t be happy to see Jae chatting with you.

He will also be surprised to see Liz in the Kitchens.

He’ll then look at you and ask if you’ve come to serve detention. You can choose to tell him the truth or lie to Pitts. While both of the options will lead to a similar outcome, it is recommended to tell him the truth.

In the end, he will let you spend time in the Kitchens and make sandwiches.

This requires earning five stars within three hours. One star is needed to pass.

There are 5-cost actions linked to Jae, Pitts, and one of the cooking pots. Prioritize those if you want to save some energy.

Once you’re done making sandwiches, Jae will ask Liz about Acromantulas.

Needless to say, she will be more than happy to talk about those magical creatures.

You’ll wonder why Jae needs Acromantula venom.

Sadly, he won’t feel comfortable talking about it.

Liz will tell him that Acromantula venom is incredibly difficult to obtain.

You’ll also mention that you didn’t have very pleasant experiences with these magical creatures.

Unfortunately, Jae won’t be too happy to hear that.

Nevertheless, he will thank Liz for answering his questions.

As always, she’ll be more than happy to help, especially when it comes to magical creatures.

She’ll then admit that she didn’t really find it enjoyable being in a crowded place.

Jae will advise her to try a different hobby.

Fortunately, you know someone that could help her.

Proceed to the Clocktower Courtyard to meet with Badeea.

When you arrive, you can chat with some of your friends and see what they have to say to you.

You will notice that Barnaby also arrived to keep them company.

Badeea will inform you that Barnaby is interested in learning about enchanted paintings.

Liz will point out that painting can be as messy as cleaning up after Professor Kettleburn’s creatures.

If you completed Call to Knighthood adventure, you will get some additional lines of dialogue here.

Badeea will advise Liz to be careful with her paints and avoid walking into someone’s canvas.

As it seems, Barnaby was the one who walked into her canvas earlier.

You’ll ask Liz if she’s ready to paint.

She’ll nod and say that she isn’t quite sure what to paint.

She will ask for your advice. There are three options to reply with. This choice will have an impact on some of the dialogue lines later on, but it won’t change the story in any big way, so feel free to take your pick.

You’ll ask Liz if she’s feeling any better.

She will smile and say she is feeling much calmer than before.

Badeea will say that painting can be incredibly peaceful.

Shortly after, the painting session will start. Completing it requires earning five stars within three hours. All five stars are needed to pass, which is why it’s recommended not to start this task with an empty energy bar.

There are 5-cost actions linked to Badeea and Liz. Prioritize those if you are looking to save as much energy as possible.

Once you’re done, you’ll feel like you’ve been painting for ages.

Badeea will say that she usually paints for much longer.

You will notice that Liz looks unhappy, so you’ll ask if she’s all right.

She’ll admit that her painting didn’t turn out the way she expected.

All of you will take a look and see that Liz painted a Hippogriff.

You will praise her painting skills.

Badeea will agree with you on that.

Unfortunately, the Hippogriff wasn’t what Liz was aiming for.

You will ask if it matters that much. After all, she did create quite a lovely painting.

She’ll say that she was supposed to try hobbies unrelated to magical creatures.

She will even admit that she feels frustrated.

Barnaby will cheerfully say that he talks to the training dummies when he’s frustrated.

Unfortunately, Liz won’t really consider talking to dummies helpful.

This will give you an interesting idea.

You’ll ask her to meet you on the Training Grounds.

Proceed there when you are ready.

You’ll ask Liz if she is ready.

She’ll admit she’s not sure what you have in mind.

Diego will arrive and cheerfully answer her question.

You’ll then explain your plan to her.

As for Diego, he will happily offer to coach Liz.

Liz will point out that you’ve already gone through two hobbies with her.

She will be curious to know why you are still helping her. There are two options to reply with. If you like Liz, it is highly recommended to pick the first option.

Shortly after, your duel will start.

The task window will display the recommended attribute levels as well as the cost of the duel. Hit Start once you’re ready to begin.

Attribute requirements for this duel are relatively close to your attribute levels. This will make the duel relatively challenging, but not overly difficult. One way to win the duel involves going Aggressive in the first round and using Incendio. If you manage to get the burning effect, you can go Sneaky during the second turn and use Flipendo. That together should be enough to win the duel as long as you don’t get stunned.

You will praise Liz for her dueling skills.

Diego will also say a few nice words to her.

Still, she will say that she isn’t that good at dueling since she lost.

You’ll remind her that dueling is all about practicing.

Diego will agree with you on that.

You will wonder why he is comparing everything to magical creatures.

Diego will admit that he’s studying the hunting and fighting techniques of magical creatures.

He will offer to give Liz some dueling lessons.

She’ll decline his offer and say that she’s still frustrated about not being able to find a new hobby.

She will say that she is afraid she’ll stay socially awkward forever.

You’ll assure her that you’ll find a suitable hobby for her.

After all, there are plenty of things she can still try.

Diego will say that soap carving can be quite an interesting hobby.

Liz will give him a curious look and ask if he’s joking.

Diego will say that he’s pretty serious about it.

This will make you realize that Liz could use some cheerful laughter, so you’ll ask her to meet you at Zonko’s.

Head to Zonko’s Joke Shop when you are ready.

Upon arriving, you will be able to interact with some of the characters.

Shortly after you arrive, you will admit that you often visit Zonko’s.

Liz will notice that you are going out much more than she does.

She’ll say that she spends a lot of time in the Slytherin Common Room and she likes watching for the Giant Squid.

You will ask if she’s ever seen it.

She will nod and say that it waved at her once.

Moments later, Tonks and Tulip will approach and greet you warmly.

Liz will shyly greet them.

Tulip will tell her there’s no need for her to be shy around them.

You’ll say that you invited them because Zonko’s is always fun with more people around.

Also, both of them are quite good when it comes to pranks.

Once again, Liz will be sad that trying out new hobbies didn’t really work for her.

You and your friends will tell her not to worry, and you’ll quickly decide to cheer her up.

Cheering up Liz requires earning five stars within eight hours. All five stars are needed to pass.

The only 5-cost action here is linked to your character, so focus on your own actions if you want to save a bit of energy.

Liz will thank everyone for cheering her up.

Thankfully, it worked and she’ll admit that she feels much better.

You’ll say that you didn’t expect it would be so difficult to find a new hobby.

Liz will chuckle and say that it’s much harder to fit in with others.

Both Tulip and Tonks will say it’s boring to fit in with everyone else.

Liz will be curious to hear your opinion. This choice won’t have any huge impact on the story, so feel free to take your pick.

Tulip will say that it’s most important to always be yourself.

Liz will realize that she shouldn’t try to act like someone else.

You will ask if she was trying to do that in the first place.

She’ll say she just wanted to be less socially awkward.

Tonks will tell her that she should simply be herself.

You’ll ask Liz to meet you at the Three Broomsticks after a while.

Proceed there when you are ready.

Upon arriving, you will notice the speech bubbles above some of the characters. Tap on those if you are interested to see what they have to say.

You will notice that something is troubling Liz, so you’ll ask her about it.

Initially, she will deny it, but you will easily see that something is wrong.

You will kindly tell her that you want to support her as a friend and you’ll ask her again to tell you what’s bothering her.

She will open up and say she was worried you’d be mad at her.

You’ll say that there’s absolutely no reason for her to be anyone but herself.

She will admit that some people told her that before.

You’ll look her in the eyes and say that she should ignore anyone who tells her to be someone else.

Liz will be slightly confused to hear that.

You’ll remind her of what Tulip said back at Zonko’s.

She will say that all she wanted was to make friends.

You’ll smile at her and say that she did make friends while trying out various hobbies.

As a surprise, you will tell her you invited them all to celebrate.

Tonks and Tulip will happily greet both of you.

Liz will be slightly confused and ask you about the reason for the celebration. There are three options to reply with. If you like Liz, it is recommended to pick the first option.

Shortly after, the celebration will begin.

Celebrating Liz requires earning five stars within eight hours. All five stars are needed to pass.

You can slide the screen left and right to see all the available actions. The only 5-cost action is tied to Liz, so focus on her actions if you want to save some energy.

You’ll ask Liz if she is enjoying the celebration.

She will cheerfully say she’s having a wonderful time. Also, nothing awkward happened during the celebration.

You’ll ask if that means she hasn’t mistaken anyone for a rubbish bin.

Liz will chuckle and say that she hasn’t done that yet.

Needless to say, this will put a smile on your face.

She will say that everyone else laughed once she told them the story.

Liz will use the opportunity to thank you for everything.
