Introduction

Hello everyone, welcome to our Walkthrough for Chapter Twelve of Year Five of Harry Potter Hogwarts Mystery. Last time, you met Mundungus Fletcher in the Three Broomsticks.

After questioning him about the Marauder’s Map, you learned that he was attacked by someone who apparently stole it from him. However, being as he is, he asked you to procure some hard-to-find items for him in order to tell you the whole story.

You decided to play along and went to gather those items. After managing to obtain everything he requested, you went to the Knockturn Alley with Madam Rakepick and Merula and talked to him once again.

He revealed that the one who attacked him and stole the map somehow transformed into something before he ran off. According to him, the attacker returned the map to Hogwarts.

year 5 chapter 12 1190

Other than the passing requirement, there isn’t much that differs between this lesson and any of the regular classes, so treat it as such and you’ll be done quickly and easily.

As usual, once you reach the fifth star, you’ll be tasked with fertilizing your plant. Trace the path on the screen to do so.

year 5 chapter 12 1220

Immediately upon arriving, you’ll notice the speech bubbles above some of your classmates. Tap on those if you are interested to see what they have to say to you.

After asking Madam Rakepick about Fletcher’s attacker, she’ll tell you that she cannot share this information with you for your own good. You have two options to respond with. Both of them lead to the same outcome, so pick the one you prefer.

year 5 chapter 12 1270

She will, however, be willing to discuss some important matters with you when the class is over.

To complete this class, you need to earn five stars within three hours. Only one star is required to pass, which should make things a lot easier.

year 5 chapter 12 1290

year 5 chapter 12 1320

Once the class is over, Madam Rakepick will tell you that there is a certain portrait that could be far more important than Marauder’s Map. It’s a portrait of a Cursed Vault.

year 5 chapter 12 1330

For your next task, you should go to the Grand Staircase and meet Badeea.

She will suggest talking to other portraits and asking if any of them know of a Cursed Vault portrait.

She’ll also ask for your opinion on the things Rakepick said about the vault portrait. You can respond in three different ways. This choice won’t significantly impact the story, so feel free to go with the option you prefer.

year 5 chapter 12 1360

Talking to portraits is an hour-long task, requiring you to earn one out of five stars to pass.

year 5 chapter 12 1370

There are bonus progress actions tied to Badeea and a portrait of Merlin. Focus on those if you want to save a bit of energy.

year 5 chapter 12 1380

Sadly, you won’t be able to find out much from the other portraits. The only thing you’ll be able to deduce is that Beatrice knows something, but you have to find a way to somehow communicate with her.

year 5 chapter 12 1390

Shortly after, you’ll decide to meet your friends in the library and discuss the situation with them, so proceed there when you are ready.

Once you get there, you’ll be able to interact with some of the characters by tapping on their speech bubbles.

You’ll inform your friends about the vault portrait and ask for their help. Once you tell them that Rakepick told you about it, some of them will be quite skeptical about the whole thing.

year 5 chapter 12 1430

This will eventually escalate into a heated argument between some of your friends.

Thankfully, Barnaby will manage to calm everyone down before things get out of hand.

year 5 chapter 12 1470

Rowan will apologize to you and you’ll be able to respond in three different ways. If you care about Rowan, it is highly recommended to select the second option, as long as your friendship level is ten. Otherwise, your friend will end up hurt.

year 5 chapter 12 1490

Shortly after, you’ll get the task to research the vault portrait. Completing it requires earning five stars within three hours. Passing, on the other hand, only requires one star.

year 5 chapter 12 1500

year 5 chapter 12 1530

Jae will suggest that you talk to the house-elves and see if any of them know something that could help. Head to the Kitchens when you are ready to continue.

When you get there, you’ll notice the speech bubbles above some of the house-elves. Tap on those if you want to see what they have to say.

After that, you’ll get to choose which of them to talk to. You have three options to choose from. There will be some minor differences, depending on your choice, but the general outcome of the story won’t be affected.

year 5 chapter 12 1590

When you are done, you will learn that someone asked one of the elves about the vault portrait. And that someone was a Gryffindor student.

year 5 chapter 12 1600

The next logical place to search will be the Gryffindor Common Room.

However, there is a waiting period of three hours before you can continue. Since you will likely be low on energy at this point, it is recommended to wait and let your energy recharge in the meantime.

year 5 chapter 12 1620

Once the waiting time is over, hit the GO button and proceed to Gryffindor Common Room.

Upon arriving, you’ll be tasked with casting Lumos to make the search easier.

Once you’re done, Percy will arrive, and being as he is, he’ll want to report you for breaking the rules. You’ll also learn that his pet rat, Scabbers, is missing. If your character is a Prefect, you’ll get an additional line of dialogue.

year 5 chapter 12 1690

However, since Percy knows that you are friends with Bill and Charlie, so he will wonder what to do with you.

You have three options to respond with. Each will lead to the same outcome, so you can feel free to pick the one you find the most appropriate for the situation.

year 5 chapter 12 1700

In the end, you will offer him your help with finding Scabbers in exchange for his silence.

Thankfully, he will agree to your proposition.

year 5 chapter 12 1720

For the next task, you’ll need to visit Hagrid and see if he’ll be willing to lend you Fang for a while. Proceed to his hut when you are ready.

Once you get there, you’ll tell Hagrid you need a favor.

year 5 chapter 12 1740

He will misinterpret your intentions and think you’re asking him for romance advice. You can reply in three different ways.

If you select the first option, you will clear the misunderstanding, but you will miss out on some really funny dialogue lines, so it is recommended to select the second or the third option.

year 5 chapter 12 1750

You’ll then ask Hagrid if he would be kind enough to let you borrow Fang for a while in order to track down Scabbers.

He will be reluctant at first, so, you’ll need to explain your plan to him. To do that, you will need to earn five stars within three hours. Only one star is needed to pass.
