Chapter 31 – After the vault

Introduction

Hello everyone, welcome to our Walkthrough for Chapter Thirty-One of Year Five of Harry Potter Hogwarts Mystery. Last time, you finally got into the Portrait Vault together with your fellow curse-breakers. As it turned out, it was guarded by a Hungarian Horntail, one of the most dangerous dragons in the Wizarding World.

However, thanks to your training and the help of your friends, you were able to defeat it and break the portrait curse.

Sadly, this victory turned out to be short-lived. Moments after defeating the dragon, Madam Rakepick betrayed you and the rest of your friends, and you learned that she was working with ‘R’ all along.

And not just that, she also started torturing Merula with Cruciatus Curse with the intention of killing her. However, thanks to your quick thinking and the Garroting Gas Professor Snape gave you, you were able to force Madam Rakepick to retreat.

After making sure that the Most Powerful Witch at Hogwarts is okay, you explored the rest of the vault and found out Jacob, trapped in one of the portraits. After setting him free, you finally got reunited with your brother.

Sadly, he left moments later to go after Rakepick. Not long after that, you discovered the clues to the final vault and managed to escape with the rest of your friends using another Portkey.

Now is the time to see if the portrait curse was actually broken. But before that, let’s get the lessons out of the way. Proceed to the Herbology classroom when you are ready.

To unlock the Puffapod lesson, you need to earn a total of nine stars from Herbology classes. Select the class duration suitable to your playstyle and hit the Start button to begin.

Thankfully, there are a lot of bonus progress actions available during these classes, which should save you some energy.

And be sure to complete as many mini-tasks as possible to earn some additional Empathy points.

Head back to the classroom once you acquire enough stars to unlock the lesson.

To complete the Puffapod lesson, you need to earn five stars within three hours. Since all of the stars are needed to pass, you should avoid starting this lesson if you are low on energy.

Other than the passing requirements, this lesson is quite similar to the classes you took previously.

During the lesson, Professor Sprout will ask you a question about Puffapod beans.

Once you obtain all five stars, you’ll be tasked with fertilizing your plant. Trace the path on the screen to do so.

Hit the Collect button to claim your rewards.

You’ll earn an additional reward for completing the lesson. You can collect it in the Herbology section of your Hogwarts Record.

Proceed to the Care of Magical Creatures for the second lesson of the chapter.

To unlock the Flobberworm lesson, you need to earn nine stars from the Care of Magical Creatures classes. Like before, pick the class duration you prefer, and hit Start to begin.

These classes also contain a fair number of bonus progress actions which will make things a bit easier for you.

Completing most of the mini-tasks will grant you a good number of extra Courage Points.

Head back to the Care of Magical Creatures once you earn all the required stars to unlock the lesson.

To complete the Flobberworm lesson, you need to acquire five stars within three hours. All five stars are needed to pass, so avoid starting this lesson if you are out of energy.

Do this lesson in a similar way to any of the regular classes and you shouldn’t have trouble completing it within the time limit.

During the lesson, Professor Kettleburn will ask you a question about Flobberworms.

Once you are done, hit the Collect button to claim your rewards.

You’ll earn an additional reward for completing the lesson. You can collect it in the Care of Magical Creatures section of your Hogwarts Record.

Now that you’re done with the lessons, head to the Great Hall to continue the story.

You and your friends will arrive, crashing down near the High Table.

Needless to say, your arrival will leave most other students in shock.

As it turns out, the Most Powerful Witch at Hogwarts will still be very weak after everything she’s been through.

Bill will decide to talk to your other friends and explain everything that happened, while you keep Merula company until help arrives.

Distracting Merula requires earning at least one out of five stars within an hour.

Be aware that there’s a waiting period afterward, which is why it’s recommended to fully complete this task. There are two actions with bonus progress tied to Merula. Focus on those if you want to save a bit of energy.

Once you are done, the Headmaster will arrive accompanied by Madam Pomfrey and Professor Snape.

You’ll quickly tell them what happened.

Shortly after, Madam Pomfrey will take Merula to the Hospital Wing.

You’ll head over to see what’s going on with Ben. Apparently, he’s deeply disturbed by everything that happened.

Moments later, he’ll stand up and leave without a word. Rowan will quickly go after him. Shortly after that, Professor Dumbledore will approach you and invite you to his office.

Sadly, there is a waiting period of three hours before you can proceed. It is recommended to wait until the timer runs out.

Once you are able to continue, proceed to the Headmaster’s Office.

As it turns out, Professor Dumbledore was absent for quite some time.

He’ll feel responsible for what happened and you’ll be able to respond to this in three different ways. Each option will lead to a similar outcome but with a few minor dialogue differences, so feel free to pick the one you prefer.

After talking for a bit, the Headmaster will ask you to tell him some things about Jacob.

To complete this task, you need to earn five stars within three hours. One star is needed to pass.

The only bonus progress action is tied to Professor Dumbledore, so prioritize his actions if you are looking to save some energy.

Once you are done, he’ll ask how you feel about reuniting with your brother. You have two options to reply with. This choice won’t impact the story in any significant way, so feel free to pick whichever option you want.

Shortly after, you’ll learn that the Portrait Curse is broken and that all of the trapped students are finally free.

And this includes Beatrice Haywood! Head to the Clocktower Courtyard to meet her and Penny.

Upon arriving, you’ll be able to interact with some of your friends by tapping on their speech bubbles.

After greeting the Haywood sisters, Beatrice will thank you for saving her.

If Penny was with you in the Cursed Vault, you will mention it here.

As it turns out, Beatrice still hasn’t fully recovered from spending nearly the entire year inside the portrait.

Penny and you will decide to lift her spirits up. Doing so requires obtaining at least one out of five stars within eight hours.

There are bonus progress actions tied to your character, Beatrice, and the fountain. Prioritize those actions to save energy.

Once you are done, you’ll show Bea the toy Puffskein she made for you, which will put a smile on her face.

Shortly after, you’ll decide to pay a visit to Merula and see how she’s doing. However, you’ll have to wait four hours before you can do that.

Proceed to the Hospital Wing once the waiting time is over.

As it turns out, Merula is quite eager to leave.

Madam Pomfrey will allow you to visit her and see how she’s doing.

Merula will ask you to tell Madam Pomfrey to let her leave. You have two options to choose from. There will be some minor dialogue differences, but the outcome is pretty much the same. However, your Slytherin friend will react best if you choose to follow her suggestion.

If you chose to indulge her, she’ll thank you for it.

Now might be a good time to discuss things, especially after everything that happened.

Discussing friendship requires earning five stars within three hours. One star is needed to pass.

There are bonus progress actions tied to your character, Merula, and the bed. Prioritize those actions to save energy.

After you are done, Merula will be back to her old self.

You have two options to react to this, but no matter which one you pick, she won’t change her mind.

Shortly after, Ben will arrive and ask you to follow him to the Artefact Room. Apparently, there’s an emergency.

And this will mark the end of Chapter 31 of Year 5. Hit the Collect button to claim your rewards. You will receive 250 Coins and 2000 Experience points.
