Chapter 4 – Opposite day

Introduction

Hello everyone, welcome to our Walkthrough for Chapter Four of Year Five of Harry Potter Hogwarts Mystery. In the previous chapter, you attended the first History of Magic lesson of Year Five under the tutelage of Professor Binns.

Later on, you went to serve the detention in the Kitchen where you met Pitts – a House Elf in charge. While you were there, you met and instantly befriended a Fifth-Year Gryffindor named Jae Kim. He likes to smuggle all sorts of banned items into Hogwarts, which is why he is in detention most of the time.

After telling him about the situation with Penny’s sister, he immediately offered to help. The two of you went to the library where you met some of your other friends to research Beatrice’s condition.

Later on, you asked Professor Flitwick for help and found out that it is probably best you talk to Nearly-headless Nick and seek his advice. Nick told you that you should consult the resident portrait painter, a Fifth-Year Ravenclaw student called Badeea Ali. She is apparently very gifted when it comes to art, and hopefully, she’ll be willing to help you.

Walkthrough

Now to start things off, you can do the lessons part of the chapter. Hit the GO button and proceed to the Herbology classroom when you’re ready.

To unlock the Belladonna lesson, you have to earn a total of nine stars from the Herbology classes. There are numerous combinations of classes you can take to achieve this. Two of the popular ones are doing the eight-hour class two times or the three-hour class three times. As a general rule, always pick the duration that suits you the most.

During these classes, prioritize the bonus progress actions to save energy.

After earning each star, focus on completing the mini-task to earn some additional Empathy points.

year 5 chapter 4 1050

Once you earn enough stars, the lesson will be unlocked. When you are ready, head back to the classroom to attend it.

To complete the Belladonna lesson, you’ll need to obtain five stars within three hours. All five stars are required to pass, so having full energy prior to starting is highly recommended.

year 5 chapter 4 1070

Simply treat this in a similar way to the classes you previously took and you’ll be done before you know it. During the lesson, Professor Sprout will ask you a question about the Belladonna plant.

year 5 chapter 4 1090

Upon earning the fifth star, you’ll be tasked with fertilizing your plant. Trace the path on the screen to complete this task.

year 5 chapter 4 1100

Hit the Collect button to claim your rewards. You can claim an additional reward in the Herbology section of your Hogwarts Record.

year 5 chapter 4 1120

Proceed to the Training Grounds when you are ready for the second lesson of the chapter.

Unlocking the Reversing lesson requires you to earn nine stars from the Flying classes. Choose the class duration suitable to your liking and hit Start to begin.

year 5 chapter 4 1140

As always, focus on the actions with bonus progress whenever they are available to save energy.

Also, try your best to succeed at all of the mini-tasks since they’ll net you a hefty amount of Courage points.

year 5 chapter 4 1160

When you earn all nine stars, head back to the Training Grounds to attend the lesson.

To learn the Reversing, you need to obtain five stars within three hours. Overall, this shouldn’t prove to be too difficult as long as you don’t start with an empty energy bar.

year 5 chapter 4 1180

Do this lesson in a similar manner to the classes you took beforehand, and you’ll be done in no time.

After you get all five stars, you’ll be tasked with demonstrating the Reversing maneuver. Trace the path on the screen to perform this correctly.

year 5 chapter 4 1210

Congratulations! You’ve just increased your energy limit by one. This will definitely help with your future classes and adventures.

year 5 chapter 4 1230

Now that the lessons are done, you can proceed to the Clocktower Courtyard to meet Badeea Ali.

Upon arriving, you’ll notice the speech bubbles above some of the students. Tap on those to interact with them and see what they have to say.

Unlike most of the other students, Badeea won’t know who you are. Most of the time she’s too busy with the art to pay attention to anything else going around. You’ll get to see a small sample of her art skills.

year 5 chapter 4 1270

She’ll tell you that she’s been painting a portrait of Beatrice trapped in another portrait. Shortly after, you’ll get the task to discuss portraits with her. You have one hour to complete this task and earn at least one out of five stars.

year 5 chapter 4 1280

As long as you started this task with full energy, you’ll easily be able to fully complete it in one go. It is also worth noting there is a bonus progress action tied to the painting.

year 5 chapter 4 1290

When you are done, Badeea will give you an interesting piece of advice.

year 5 chapter 4 1300

Moments later, you’ll realize that it’s time for your detention. Hit the GO button and proceed to the Kitchens to meet Jae.

When you arrive, you’ll be able to interact with some of the house-elves and see what they have to say by tapping on their speech bubbles.

Afterward, you’ll tell Jae about your encounter with Badeea. He’ll tell you that she is perhaps one of the brightest students at Hogwarts. Apparently, she even invented some of her own spells.

year 5 chapter 4 1330

Right after that, the task window will open. Serving detention is a three-hour task with a passing requirement of one out of five stars.

year 5 chapter 4 1340

There is a bonus progress action tied to Jae. Focus on it to save some energy.

year 5 chapter 4 1350

Once you are done, Pitts will feel quite uncomfortable about your sudden happiness. Apparently, Badeea’s advice seems to be working.

year 5 chapter 4 1360

Shortly after, you’ll be released from detention. For the next task, you’ll need to meet Merula and discuss the situation.

Sadly, there is a waiting period of three hours before you can proceed. Since you will likely be low on energy at this point, it is recommended to wait and let your energy recharge in the meantime.

year 5 chapter 4 1370

Once you are able to continue, head to the Three Broomsticks to meet Merula.

When you enter Madam Rosmerta’s establishment, you’ll notice the speech bubbles above her and some other characters. Tap on those to see what they have to say.

Merula will be quite surprised to see you seeking her aid. You have three options to reply with. All of them will lead to the same outcome, but there are some very interesting lines of dialogue for all of Merula’s fans if you select the third choice.

year 5 chapter 4 1400

Shortly after, you’ll get the task to recruit Merula for your cause. The task window will display the recommended attribute levels as well as the cost.

year 5 chapter 4 1470

This is perhaps, by far the easiest task you’ll ever get. Simply tell her that she is the best at everything and you’ll complete this quickly and easily. For the sake of fun, you can check out the questions and their answers below.

  • Who’s the best student? – You. (Empathy)
  • Who’s the best dueller? – You. (Courage)
  • Who’s the most cunning? – You. (Knowledge)
  • Who’s the best Curse-Breaker? – You. (Courage)
  • Who’s the most intelligent? – You. (Knowledge)
  • Who’s the best witch at Hogwarts? – You. (Empathy)

When you are done, you’ll have one of the rare opportunities to see Merula smiling. And not just her usual evil grin, this will be a genuine smile of pure happiness.

year 5 chapter 4 1470

In the end, she’ll agree to help you. The plan is rather simple – your assignment will be to find the Marauder’s Map while Merula keeps following the path she was on.

This will be the first time you hear of the Marauder’s Map. According to Merula, it is some sort of magical map and Madam Rakepick needs it to locate the next cursed vault.

year 5 chapter 4 1500

Your next task involves talking to Filch about the map. Hit the GO button and proceed to meet Jae in the Great Hall.

Once you arrive, you’ll notice that certain characters have something to tell you. Tap on the speech bubbles above them to see what they have to say.

Jae will tell you that he smuggled a box into the Great Hall. Apparently, it is something for the caretaker, so all you have to do is find the right moment to place it on the table.

year 5 chapter 4 1530

This exactly is your next task. You have three hours to find the right moment to place the box on the table. In other words – you need to get at least one star to pass.

year 5 chapter 4 1540

Make sure to pay attention to some of the character lines while doing this since some are really interesting.

year 5 chapter 4 1550

Once you are done, the box will be successfully placed on top of the table. The caretaker will instantly notice it, but he’ll be reluctant to open it again.

year 5 chapter 4 1560

However, after thinking it over, he’ll decide to check it out and see what’s in the box. And much to his surprise, this time he’ll actually get a lovely cake.

year 5 chapter 4 1580

You’ll use this opportunity to ask him about Marauder’s Map. He’ll tell you that someone stole it from his office and most likely it was Peeves.

year 5 chapter 4 1590

You’ll decide to look for Poltergeist. Sadly, you’ll need to wait three hours before you can proceed.

year 5 chapter 4 1610

When you are able to continue, head to the Defence Against the Dark Arts Classroom to meet Jae.

Once you arrive, he’ll ask how you are planning to attract Peeves’ attention. You have three options to choose from. Each of those will work, the only difference is the approach.

year 5 chapter 4 1630

Shortly after, Peeves will appear and ask why you called him. You’ll explain that you need the Marauder’s Map, but he’ll be hesitant to give it to you.

You have three options to respond with. The second one requires level two friendship with Jae, but since all of the options lead to the same outcome, you can freely pick any of them.

year 5 chapter 4 1640

Peeves won’t be sure if he has the map or not, so you’ll need to detailly explain to him what it looks like. This is a three-hour task with a completion requirement of five stars. Passing, however, only requires a single star.

year 5 chapter 4 1650

There is a bonus progress action tied to Jae. Prioritize it to save a bit of energy.

year 5 chapter 4 1660

After you are done, Peeves will remember that one of his friends told him not to give you the map. You’ll learn that Peeves’ friend isn’t really fond of Jacob.

year 5 chapter 4 1670

Apparently, whoever his friend is, he hates potions a lot, so perhaps Professor Snape knows something that could help you.

When you get to the classroom, you’ll be able to interact with some of the Slytherins and see what they have to say.

Before you get the chance to explain the situation to Snape, he’ll cut you short and say that the class is about to start. To complete it, you need to get at least one out of five stars within three hours.

year 5 chapter 4 1700

Even though this is a class, it behaves just like any of the regular story tasks, so you should treat it as such. There is a bonus progress action linked to Barnaby. Focus on it whenever it is available to save energy.

year 5 chapter 4 1710

After the class, you’ll discover that Snape isn’t really fond of Marauders. He will also tell you some shocking information about Penny.

year 5 chapter 4 1720

With this, Chapter 4 of Year 5 will end. Hit the Collect button to claim your rewards. You will receive 250 Coins and 2000 Experience points. This will also add Badeea to your list of friends.

Now, that’s an interesting turn of events. What is Penny up to? Did she really sink deep into depression? Perhaps there is something you can do to help her. Find out in the next chapter of Harry Potter Hogwarts Mystery!
