Chapter 5 – Penny, portraits, peace, and pressure

Introduction

Hello everyone, welcome to our Walkthrough for Chapter Five of Year Five of Harry Potter Hogwarts Mystery. Last time, you met Badeea Ali, a Fifth-Year Ravenclaw who is perhaps one of the most gifted Hogwarts students. She has a particular knack for art which you firsthand noticed during your meeting.

She gave you an important piece of advice – sometimes, if you do things in the opposite way, you can get quite interesting results. Following this, you were able to leave detention early, convince Merula to help you, and even got Filch to tell you the information related to Marauder’s Map.

Peeves, however, wasn’t so cooperative, so you had to seek Professor Snape and ask him about it. Sadly, the sheer mention of the Marauders infuriated him and he refused to discuss the subject.

He did, however, reveal that Penny is on a road to self-destruction and it is only a matter of time before she gets consumed by grief. It’s up to you to stop her from doing that before it’s too late.

WARNING: Completing this chapter will start Festival Fun Adventure. If you are planning to complete that adventure, it is HIGHLY recommended to have all of your attribute levels at 26 or higher. If your current attribute levels are below the recommended values, you should take time to level them up before completing this chapter.

Now, you can kick things off by doing the lessons part of the chapter. Proceed to the Transfiguration classroom when you are ready.

To unlock Switch: Feather Duster & Ferret lesson you need nine stars from Transfiguration classes. As usual, there are many different ways to achieve this, so just pick the one that suits you the most and hit the Start button to begin.

Try to do the bonus progress actions whenever you see them available in order to save some energy and finish the class faster.

Also, pay attention to the mini-tasks you’ll get after earning stars. Completing each of those will grant you ten Knowledge points.

When you obtain nine stars, the lesson will be unlocked. Head back to the classroom to attend it.

To learn how to transfigure Ferret to Feather Duster you’ll need to earn five stars within three hours. All five stars are needed to pass, so it is highly recommended to have full energy before starting this lesson.

Do this just like the previous classes and you shouldn’t encounter any problems.

Once you obtain the fifth star, you’ll be tasked with casting the spell. Trace the wand movement on the screen to perform this.

Hit the Collect button to claim your rewards. You can claim an additional reward in the Transfiguration section of your Hogwarts Record.

One down, one to go. Hit the GO button and proceed to the History of Magic classroom for your second lesson of the chapter.

To unlock the Giant Wars lesson, you need to acquire a total of nine stars from History of Magic classes. Choose the class combination that fits your playstyle and hit the Start button to begin.

There isn’t much of a difference between these and any other classes – simply tap on various glowing objects to complete actions and fill up the star meter. Prioritize actions with bonus progress to save energy.

And as always, mini-tasks can provide you with some additional attribute points as long as you successfully complete them.

Upon obtaining all nine stars, the lesson will be unlocked so you should return to the classroom to attend it.

Completing Giant Wars lesson requires you to earn five stars within eight hours. All five stars are needed to pass so you’ll want to avoid starting the lesson with an empty energy bar.

Do this just like the previous classes and you won’t have any trouble with it. During the lesson, you’ll be asked a question about the Giant Wars.

When you are done, hit the Collect button to claim your rewards. You’ll get an additional reward for completing the lesson. You can claim it in the History of Magic section of your Hogwarts Record.

Now that you’ve finished the lessons, you can head to the Grand Staircase to meet Penny and continue the story.

Upon arriving, you’ll notice that Penny is feeling very depressed about the whole situation with her sister.

Now it’s up to you to comfort your friend. This task requires you to earn five stars within one hour. One star is needed to pass.

All five stars should easily be obtainable with a single energy bar. It is also worth noting there are actions with bonus progress tied to Penny and a portrait of Sir Cadogan.

Penny will feel a bit better after you’re done, but sadly, she’ll still be worried about her sister.

However, she’ll come up with something that could help. She’ll ask you to meet her in the Forest Grove in three hours. Since you will likely be low on energy at this point, it is recommended to wait and let your energy recharge in the meantime.

Once the waiting time is over, proceed to the Forest Grove to meet Penny.

You’ll find out that she is searching for a Unicorn Horn. Apparently, she wants to use it as an ingredient for some potion that could make her feel better. Hopefully, you’ll be able to find one in the forest.

And in order to search, you’ll need to shed some light on this dark, gloomy place. Trace the wand movement on the screen to cast Lumos.

Searching for the horn is a three-hour task that requires you to obtain at least one out of five stars to pass.

There is a bonus progress action tied to the bush in the lower-right part of the screen. Do it whenever it is available to complete the task faster.

Luckily, you’ll be able to find a Unicorn Horn.

You’ll need to go to the Transfiguration classroom to search for the next ingredient.

Penny will say that she needs some Porcupine Quills for her potion. Sadly, there won’t be any left in the classroom, but thankfully, you’ll have Sickleworth with you, and he might be able to find a pin cushion that you could later untransfigure into a porcupine.

Searching the classroom requires you to earn five stars within three hours. Only one star is needed to pass, so it shouldn’t be too difficult.

During this task, you’ll want to check the table on the left side of the screen since it will often have a bonus progress action tied to it.

When you are done, you’ll find the pin cushion. All that’s left is to untransfigure it back into a porcupine.

The spell will work and Penny will be very happy about that.

Your next task involves getting some Moonstone. Your best bet would be to ask Jae to get it for you, but it will take some time for him to procure it. Three hours to be exact.

Head to the Kitchens to meet Jae once the waiting time is over.

Upon arriving, you’ll be able to interact with some of the House-Elves by tapping on the speech bubbles above them.

Luckily, Jae managed to obtain the moonstone, but he won’t be able to give it to you until the end of detention.

Serving detention requires you to earn five stars within three hours. One star is needed to pass.

There is a bonus progress action tied to Pitts. Prioritize it whenever it is available to save energy.

When you are done, Jae will ask why you are helping Penny. You have three options to choose from. This is an IMPORTANT choice!

If by any chance, you like Penny more than a friend and want to romance her, you’ll want to select the second option. It requires you to have level nine friendship with her, which should easily be obtainable by now. However, if that is not the case, or if you simply want to pursue some other romantic interest in the future, you should select one of the other options. 

Your next task involves meeting Penny in the Herbology Class. Hit the GO button and proceed there when you are ready.

Upon arriving, you’ll notice the speech bubbles above some of the characters. Tap on those if you want to see what they have to say.

Penny will tell you that the last ingredient she needs is a Syrup of Hellebore. Thankfully, that is the subject of today’s class.

As always, you’ll be quick to offer your help. Penny will ask you about that.

This is where the previous choice will take effect. If you told Jae that you fancy Penny, your character will confess their feelings for her. This will struck her as a surprise, but since she’ll be too concerned about the well-being of her sister, she won’t be able to think of anything else. She will, however, promise to talk about it more once Beatrice is safe.

In case you didn’t tell Jae you fancy her, you’ll tell her that you consider her a friend, and she’ll be glad to have someone as nice as you by her side.

Shortly after, the class will begin. To complete it, you need to obtain five stars within eight hours. One star is needed to pass.

There is a bonus progress action tied to Professor Sprout, so make sure to do it at every opportunity if you are looking to save energy.

After you’re done, Penny will need some time to make preparations for brewing the potion. Eight hours to be exact. 

Once the waiting time is over, proceed to the Artefact Room for your next task.

When you get there, Penny will finally tell you what she’s planning to brew.

To make the Draught of Peace, you’ll need to earn five stars within three hours. Since all five stars are needed to pass, it is highly recommended to have full energy before starting the task.

There is a bonus progress action linked to Penny. Focus on it when it is available to save a bit of energy.

After you are done, Penny will be unsure if drinking the potion would be a good idea. You can choose to advise her against it if your friendship with her is level ten.

This is another important choice. If you told Penny you like her, you definitely want to go with the second option. Otherwise, you can pick either one.

Shortly after, Chapter 5 of Year 5 will come to an end. Hit the Collect button to claim your rewards. You will receive 250 Coins and 2000 Experience points.

That was a nice chapter. You got to spend a lot of time with Penny and help her overcome anxiety. Hopefully, this will prevent her from sinking into depression and self-destruction.
