Walkthrough
Once you arrive, you will be able to interact with some of the house-elves and check out what they have to say to you.
Pitts will inform you that his favorite pot got burnt. He’ll ask if you or Jae had anything to do with that.
Jae will point out that you’ve just arrived. Also, it is not like you’ve been doing any cooking while in detention.
Pitts will then assign you to do some polishing. Doing this requires earning five stars within an hour. Only one star is needed to pass.
If you are looking to save some energy, it is highly recommended to earn a single star and let the timer expire since there’s no waiting time before the next task. However, if you want to earn some additional rewards and a chance for Chocolate Frogs, it is recommended to fully complete this task.
Bonus progress action is tied to Jae. Prioritize this action to save some energy.
Eventually, Pitts will ask you to stop polishing pots and pans. Since his favorite pot got ruined, you will suggest doing something else to make it up to him. Perhaps a new menu item would do?
However, Pitts will be quite hesitant to agree to your proposition. There are three options to respond with. Each of these will end up with a similar outcome, so feel free to pick whichever one you prefer.
In the end, Pitts will agree to let you cook a new menu item.
Perhaps Hagrid might be able to help you with it? Proceed to his hut when you are ready.
Upon arriving, you will tell him what you’re up to.
You’ll ask him if he would be kind enough to teach you one of his recipes.
Thankfully, Hagrid will be more than willing to help. He’ll decide to teach you how to make treacle fudge.
Learning a new recipe requires earning five stars within three hours. Only one star is needed to pass.
There are two bonus progress actions tied to your character. Focus on those if you are looking to save some energy.
When you are done, you will thank Hagrid for teaching you the recipe. Still, you will have to acquire some of the ingredients before you can make the treacle fudge.
Hagrid will tell you which ingredients you need to collect.
He’ll also point out that you can likely find some of the ingredients in the Artefact Room. Go there when you are ready.
You will be very eager to find the missing ingredients.
Jae will find that quite odd, especially since you had nothing to do with ruining Pitts’ favorite pot. There are three options to respond with. If you like Jae, it is recommended to pick the third option. Bear in mind that you need to have his friendship level at 3 or higher in order to select this one.
Shortly after, you will start looking for the ingredients. This requires earning five stars within three hours. One star is needed to pass.
The only bonus progress action here is linked to the shelf. Prioritize it if you want to save a bit of energy.
After finishing the search, you will ask Jae to take the ingredients you found to Hagrid.
In the meantime, you will decide to ask Tonks to help you gather the remaining ingredients.
The next task doesn’t involve spending any energy, which is why it’s recommended to head to the Great Hall as soon as possible. When you arrive, you will notice the speech bubbles above some of the characters.
Tonks will be curious to know why you need her help and you will start explaining.
She will be interested to hear more about this. Sadly, you don’t have too much time since you need to gather the sap as soon as possible.
Tonks will find it odd that you are planning to use sap as one of the ingredients.
You will also mention one important detail about the sap.
Apparently, Tonks is very familiar with Venomous Tentacula. After all, she did use it before to prank Filch. Sadly, it is not the experience she remembers fondly.
Because of that, you will have to convince her to help you. The task window will display the recommended attribute levels as well as the cost.
This is fairly similar to mean with a friend activity. Simply pick up the options that will reassure Tonks, and you shouldn’t have much trouble with this task. Below are questions and answers to them.
- Why me and not someone else? – You have the most experience (Knowledge)
- What if Sprout catches us? – Sprout won’t catch us (Empathy)
- What if the plant attacks? – If anyone can face it, it’s you (Courage)
- You know I’m clumsy… – You’re not always clumsy (Empathy)
- I don’t see what’s in it for me… – Treacle Fudge! (Courage)
- I’m still not comfortable… – I promise I’ll have your back (Knowledge)
Once you are done, you will receive a significant amount of friendship experience with Tonks.
Thankfully, she will agree to go help you. Proceed to the greenhouse when you are ready. Shortly after arriving, Tonks will spot one of Professor Sprout’s Venomous Tentaculas.
She’ll ask you to collect the sap while she’s keeping watch. This requires earning five stars within three hours. One star is needed to pass.
The only bonus progress action here is linked to the plant. Focus on this one if you want to save some energy.
Sadly, you won’t be able to collect any sap. Tonks will approach to have a look at the tentacula, but she will quickly be grabbed by it.
She will ask you to use the severing charm to set her free. Trace the wand movement to cast Diffindo.
Luckily, the spell will work, and your friend will be freed from the tentacula’s grasp.
Before leaving, you will decide to collect sap from some other plant. Unfortunately, you will have to wait for three hours before heading back to Hagrid. Since you will likely be low on energy at this point, it is recommended to wait and let your energy recharge in the meantime.
Go to Hagrid’s hut once the waiting time is over. Upon arriving, you will find Hagrid and Jae discussing some recipes.
Hagrid will comment on Jae’s cooking skills.
You will find this very surprising.
Jae will admit that he enjoys cooking every now and then. It is his secret passion.
He will ask you to keep it a secret from Pitts. If you like Jae, it is recommended to make a promise. Otherwise, you can pick either option.
Hagrid will ask if you got all of the ingredients. You will tell him you managed to collect some sap, but it wasn’t the one from Venomous Tentacula.
Jae won’t be sure if using sap as one of the ingredients would be a good idea. As for Hagrid, he will admit he isn’t too sure about it.
You will then get to choose if you want to make the fudge with or without sap. This choice will impact the rest of the quest. If you follow Jae’s suggestion, you will make delicious fudge, and you will get the chance to earn some house points. If you add sap, you might end up losing some house points, but you will get to witness some hilarious scenes. Ultimately, the choice is yours, so feel free to pick the option you prefer.
Making treacle fudge requires earning five stars within three hours. One star is needed to pass.
The only bonus progress action here is linked to Hagrid. Prioritize it if you want to save a bit of energy.
Once you are done cooking, you will thank Hagrid for being kind enough to help you.
Jae will then admit he was the one who burned Pitts’ favorite pot.
Apparently, he was trying out a new recipe.
Moments later, you will have to report to detention again. Head to the Kitchens when you are ready. Upon arriving, you’ll be able to interact with some of the house-elves.
You will proudly present treacle fudge to Pitts.
He will be eager to try it out. This requires earning five stars within eight hours. One star is needed to pass.
The only action with bonus progress here is tied to your character. Focus on it if you want to save some energy.
The following part will be different, based on whether or not you included sap as one of the ingredients. If you didn’t, Pitts will find the fudge delicious, and you will even see him smile. If you used sap, Pitts will not be too satisfied with the way fudge tastes. In any case, he will forget about his burned pot… at least for a while.
Moments later, Professor Sprout will arrive.
Apparently, she noticed that one of her Venomous Tentacula is missing its limbs.
By the looks of it, Tonks told her what happened. You will then get to choose if you want to apologize for what you did or to try and bribe the Professor with treacle fudge. If you choose to apologize, Professor Sprout will let you off the hook. However, if you try to bribe her, you will lose or gain ten house points, based on the way the fudge turned out.
If you used sap as one of the ingredients, the Professor will not like the fudge, and you will lose ten house points. If you went with Jae’s suggestion, she will enjoy the fudge and you will gain ten house points.
Once she leaves, you will wonder if cooking was a good idea.
Jae will reassure you that the two of you would make an excellent cooking duo.
Most importantly, he considers you a good friend.
This will mark the end of Cooking up Trouble side quest. Hit the Collect button to claim your rewards. You will receive 100 Knowledge Points, 10 Gems, and 1200 Experience Points.
This was a rather interesting side quest. Perhaps you will get to spend more time with Jae in the future and share some interesting cooking adventures? Only time will tell.
Thank you for reading.
