Dancing, Duelling, and Diego Side Quest

Hello everyone, welcome to our Walkthrough for Dancing, Duelling, and Diego Side Quest of Harry Potter Hogwarts Mystery. This side quest is available for students of Year 5 and above, and it should unlock after reaching Chapter 18 of Year 5. Once you start the quest, Madam Rosmerta will ask you to meet her in the Three Broomsticks, so proceed there when you are ready.
[Disclaimer: This walkthrough will feature the gameplay from the perspective of a Year 7 student. Since this side quest is available for students of Year 5 and above, the requirements for certain tasks might be different for you, depending on the year you’re in or the level of your attributes.]

Upon arriving, you will notice the speech bubbles above some of the characters. Tap on those if you are interested to see what they have to say.

You will ask Madam Rosmerta about the letter she sent you.

For a moment, she will wonder what you are talking about.

Suddenly, she will remember it was about the contest.

This will be the first time you hear about it.

She’ll tell you it is the Team Dance Contest.

You will find it odd, since you definitely didn’t sign up for it.

Madam Rosmerta will say that one of your friends signed you up as his teammate.

Suddenly, Diego will approach and say he was the one who signed you for the contest.

You will be surprised to see him.

He’ll tell you he wants the two of you to win the dance contest.

He will suggest that you start practicing as soon as possible.

You’ll tell him you didn’t sign up to be his teammate.

Diego will ask if you are mad at him. If you like Diego, it is recommended to pick the second option. This choice will be referenced later on.

In the end, he will decide to explain why he chose to sign you up.

Listening to Diego requires earning five stars within an hour. Only one star is needed to pass.

If you are looking to save as much energy as possible, you should earn a single star and wait for the timer to run out. It’s also worth noting there are 5-cost actions tied to your character and Diego.

Diego will admit he was very excited about the dance contest, so he signed up immediately.

He will admit that you are his closest friend at Hogwarts.

You will be surprised to hear that.

In the end, you will agree to help him out.

Your previous choice will take effect here.

Diego will thank you for agreeing to be his teammate.

He will ask you to meet with him in the Courtyard for a practice.

Proceed to the Courtyard when you are ready.

Diego will thank you for agreeing to be his teammate.

You will notice that the Courtyard looks very empty during lunch.

Diego will tell you he is planning to teach you the ultimate dance move: the Badger Shuffle.

This will be the first time you hear of that dance move.

Apparently, the move was created by Diego and his father.

You will be impressed to hear that.

Diego will tell you that his father is a dance instructor. The two of them spent a whole summer creating the Badger Shuffle.

You will figure out they are very close.

Diego will say that he wouldn’t be the same person without his father.

You will ask him to explain that.

Diego will avoid your question and say that you should start practicing.

You will figure out there is something he’s not telling you.

Diego will say that the secret he’s keeping is something he hasn’t told anyone yet.

He will ask if you can promise not to tell anyone about it. There are two options to choose from. If you like Diego, it is recommended to pick the first option.

Either way, he will decide to open up to you. He’ll say that he was very shy growing up.

You will find that hard to believe.

He’ll admit that he didn’t have many friends back then.

Thankfully, his father taught him how to dance, which helped build his confidence.

Sadly, he got too confident, and the people don’t want to be around him.

You will thank him for sharing the story with you.

Shortly after, the two of you will start practicing.

Learning the Badger Shuffle requires earning five stars within three hours. All five stars are needed to pass, so avoid starting this task if your energy bar is empty.

There is a 5-cost action linked to Diego. Focus on his actions if you want to save a bit of energy.

You will feel exhausted after practicing for a while. You’ll ask Diego if you’ve mastered the Badger Shuffle.

He will give you his honest opinion.

According to him, your movement is a bit stiff.

He’ll admit that he had the same problem at the start.

Luckily, he knows how to help you.

He’ll say that a duel should solve the problem.

He will tell you to meet him on the Training Grounds after you get some rest.

The next task doesn’t involve spending any energy, so you can proceed to the Training Grounds as soon as possible.

Diego will ask if you are ready to duel.

You will wonder what dueling has to do with dancing.

After all, two of those things are very different.

Your friend will say that you’ve got it all wrong.

He’ll tell you that duel is very similar to a dance.

Sadly, you won’t see the connection between the two.

Diego will say that dancing is all about rhythm, flow, and balance.

He’ll go on and explain the similarities.

If you’ve started playing Quidditch for your House team, you will get some additional lines of dialogue.

Shortly after, the two of you will start dueling.

The task window will display all the relevant information, so hit Start when you are ready to begin the duel.

Diego’s attributes will be very similar to your attributes, which will make this duel very challenging. There are a few ways to approach this duel. You can go all out Aggressive or Sneaky and use high-damaging spells like Depulso or Flipendo. With some luck, you should be able to win the duel in the third round. The other tactic involves going Aggressive during the first round and using Incendio. If you get the burning effect, you should be able to win the duel in the second round by going Aggressive or Sneaky and using Depulso or Flipendo. This tactic won’t always work since you might get stunned, which will make things complicated. However, you should still have a decent chance of winning the duel using this strategy.

Diego will be amazed by your dueling skills.

He’ll admit that dueling you is never easy.

He will ask if you understand why dueling is similar to dancing. There are three options to choose from. This choice won’t have any big impact on the story, so feel free to pick whichever option you prefer.

Diego will be quite confident you have what it takes to master the Badger Shuffle dance.

You will hope that you can win the competition.

Diego will say that the two of you need to be dressed for the occasion.

Thankfully, you know the wizard who could help you with that.

Proceed to the Great Hall when you are ready to meet with Andre.

Upon arriving, you will be able to interact with some of your classmates by tapping on the speech bubbles above them.

Andre will happily greet you and Diego.

You will thank him for agreeing to meet you.

He will ask if there’s anything he can do for you.

Diego will say that the two of you need some style advice.

You’ll add that you entered a contest, and you need his help.

Diego will say that presenting yourself is very important.

Andre will agree with him.

He will say a few words about presentation in general.

You will quickly figure out that the two of them have a lot in common.

Andre will be surprised that Diego is so interested in style.

Diego will explain there is more to him than dancing and dueling.

Shortly after, Andre will decide to give you some fashion advice.

Getting fashion advice requires earning five stars within three hours. All five stars are needed to pass, which is why it’s recommended not to start this task with an empty energy bar.

There is a 5-cost action tied to your character. Prioritize your own actions if you want to save a bit of energy.

You will thank Andre for advising you.

Diego will be quite confident that the two of you can win the dance contest.

Andre will ask if he is talking about the dance contest at the Three Broomsticks.

He’ll explain that he and Penny signed up as a team.

You will be surprised to hear that.

Andre will say that he is looking forward to showing off his fashion there.

He will wish you the best of luck before leaving the Great Hall.

You will notice that Diego looks very nervous.

He will wonder if Andre and Penny are better dancers.

He’ll also say he is afraid they might laugh at two of you.

You will promise him that they definitely won’t laugh at you.

Diego will thank you for making him feel a bit better.

He’ll be curious if there is any spell that could help the two of you.

He will suggest studying a dancing charm.

You will say that you can ask Professor Flitwick about it.

Diego will like your idea.

Still, you won’t be sure if a dancing charm would be of much help.

Diego will explain his reasoning.

You will agree with him.

He will ask you to speak to Professor Flitwick and see if there’s any dancing charm that could help.

Head to the Charms classroom when you are ready.

Upon greeting the Professor, you will ask if he would be willing to talk about some charms.

He’ll give you an unexpected answer.

Professor Flitwick will smile and say that he can advise you as long as you are prepared to learn.

You’ll definitely be ready to expand your knowledge.

You will ask the Professor about dancing charms.

He’ll tell you there’s Tarantallegra spell.

You’ll wonder if there’s any spell that is less jinx-y.

Professor Flitwick will think about it for a moment before deciding to look through his books. He’ll ask you to help him with it.

Researching with Flitwick requires earning five stars within three hours. Three stars are needed to pass.

There is a 5-cost action linked to your character. Prioritize your actions if you want to save a bit of energy.

Unfortunately, neither of you will be able to find any dancing charms that aren’t jinx-y.

You will thank Professor Flitwick for trying.

He’ll wonder why you are interested in dancing charms.

You will inform him about the contest.

The Professor will be curious to know why you need a dancing charm.

You’ll tell him about Diego’s plan.

Professor Flitwick will ask if you believe it will help you. This choice won’t have any impact on the outcome of the story, so feel free to pick either option.

The Professor will say that Diego is lucky to have you as his friend.

Sadly, you’ll have to inform your friend that you were unable to find anything.

Professor Flitwick will advise you to focus on your dance routine and be confident.

Suddenly, you will get an idea of how to get Diego focused.

You’ll thank the Professor before leaving the classroom.

You’ll need to wait three hours until Diego is ready to meet with you. Since you will likely be low on energy at this point, it is recommended to wait, and let your energy recharge in the meantime.

Proceed to the Courtyard once the waiting time is over.

Diego will ask if you managed to find any helpful dancing charm.

You’ll tell him that even after looking through nearly all the books, Professor Flitwick and you were unable to find anything.

Diego will suggest going back and double-checking the books.

You’ll calmly tell him it won’t be necessary.

You will notice that your friend is afraid of losing the competition, so you’ll ask him about it.

After a brief moment of silence, he will decide to tell you the truth.

He’ll say he was confident you will be able to sweep the competition.

However, after he found out that Andre and Penny are competing, he started worrying.

He’ll go on and say he was hoping people would see him differently if the two of you were to win the competition.

Diego will admit that he’s afraid everyone will think he’s a loser, in case you don’t end up winning the competition.

You will assure him that won’t end up happening.

However, he will still have some doubts.

You’ll say some nice words to cheer him up.

You will tell him he’s only missing one thing.

Diego will be curious what it is.

You’ll smile and say he is missing his confidence.

Luckily, that can be fixed with a game of Gobstones.

The task window will display the recommended attribute levels, as well as the cost. Hit Start when you are ready to begin.

This game of Gobstones is fairly similar to most of the regular ones. The recommended attribute levels will be fairly close to your own attributes, which will make this task quite challenging. Be sure to select the options that will make you friendly and supportive, and you will have no problems completing the task successfully. Below are some of the questions and answers to them.

After you finish the game of Gobstones, Diego will be back to his old self.

He’ll thank you for helping him restore his confidence.

Shortly after, the two of you will head to the Three Broomsticks.

You will ask Diego if he is ready for the dance contest.

He’ll tell you he is more than ready.

You will be glad to see him back to his normal self.

He’ll tell you he is new and improved Diego Caplan.

Moments later, Madam Rosmerta will prepare for an announcement.

She will welcome everyone to the first Team Dance Contest at the Three Broomsticks.

She’ll also introduce the judges, Rubeus Hagrid and Bilton Bilmes.

Shortly after, the dance contest will begin.

Dancing with Diego requires earning five stars within eight hours. All five stars are needed to pass.

There are 5-cost actions tied to Diego and Madam Rosmerta. Prioritize those if you want to save some energy.

Once you’re done dancing, Madam Rosmerta will say that the judges need some time to deliberate.

Penny will tell you she found your dance quite interesting.

You’ll say that Diego came up with the Badger Shuffle dance.

Penny will be surprised to hear that.

He’ll explain he created it together with his father.

Both Andre and Penny will ask him to teach them the dance sometime.

Diego will agree, as long as you are there to help him.

You’ll gladly offer your help.

Soon enough, Madam Rosmerta will be ready to announce the winner.

Penny will find it hard to hide her excitement.

Moments later, Madam Rosmerta will say that Diego and you are the winners.

Both of you will be happy to hear that.

Penny and Andre will congratulate you on winning the dance contest.

Diego will thank you for keeping his secret and believing in him.

The choice that you’ve made during the first part of this side quest will take effect here.

Once again, Diego will mention that you are his closest friend at Hogwarts.

You will ask if something about that changed.

He will smile and say he feels that your friendship has only gotten stronger.

Once again, he will thank you for being there for him and proving you are a true friend.
