Hello everyone, welcome to our Walkthrough for Chapter Forty of Year Six of Harry Potter Hogwarts Mystery. Previously, you informed your friends about your meeting with the Merqueen and you told them you need to obtain three tribute items. Jae agreed to help you get the lyre. Alanza was kind enough to give you her jeweled necklace, and Tulip, Fred, and George gave you the fancy comb. Now you only need to wait for Jae to obtain the lyre before you can go back into the Black Lake and bring the items to the Merqueen. Once you start the chapter, you can take care of the lessons, as usual. Proceed to the Herbology classroom when you are ready.

To unlock the Mistletoe lesson, you need to acquire a total of nine stars from the Herbology classes. Select the class duration suitable to your liking and hit Start when you are ready to begin.

Prioritize doing 5-cost actions whenever you see them available. This way, you will save as much energy as possible.

Each of the mini-tasks will grant you some Empathy points upon successful completion, so try your best to complete all of them.

Return to the classroom once you acquire enough stars to unlock the lesson.

To complete the Mistletoe lesson, you need to obtain five stars within three hours. All five stars are needed to pass, so avoid starting this lesson if you are out of energy.

Pay attention to Professor Sprout’s question during the lesson.

For the second lesson of the chapter, proceed to the Divination classroom.

Unlocking Bibliomancy lesson requires earning nine stars from the Divination classes. Select the class duration you prefer, and hit Start once you’re ready to begin.

Like always, focus on 5-cost actions if you are looking to save as much energy as possible.

As for the mini-tasks, each of those will grant you some Empathy points upon successful completion.

Return to the classroom once you earn enough stars to unlock the lesson.

Completing the Bibliomancy lesson requires earning five stars within eight hours. All five stars are needed to pass.

Some of Professor Trelawney’s questions will be unique to this lesson, so pay attention to those.

Once you are done with the lessons, proceed to the West Towers corridor to meet with Merula.

She will be interested to know if you managed to collect all of the items for the Merqueen.

You will be surprised to find out she already knows about it.

She will smile at you wickedly and say she has her ways of obtaining information.

She’ll ask if you are close to figuring out where the final Cursed Vault is.

You’ll tell her you are only missing one item to complete the tribute for the Merqueen.

The Most Powerful Witch at Hogwarts will want to discuss some things about your plan.

This requires earning five stars within an hour. Only one star is needed to pass.

If you are looking to save as much energy as possible, you should simply earn a single star and wait for the timer to run out. There is no waiting period before the next task, so this way you can save a lot of energy.

You will say that you’re planning to return to the Merqueen as soon as you obtain all of the tribute items.

Still, there is no guarantee that the Cursed Vault is actually in the Black Lake.

However, a lot of clues point out to that place, and it is by far your best chance.

Merula will advise you to be ready. After all, Rakepick is the person that would stop at nothing to achieve her goals.

She will also say that she should be the one to join you once you decide to head back into the Black Lake.

You’ll tell her you haven’t given it much thought about who will go with you there.

The Most Powerful Witch at Hogwarts will be very determined to go. There are two options to reply with. If you like Merula, it is somewhat recommended to pick the first one. Otherwise, feel free to go with either option.

She’ll then suggest training with her to prepare for what’s to come.

You’ll be unsure if that’s the best idea.

She will calmly point out that training with her is definitely your best option.

After thinking for a bit, you will agree with her proposition.

You’ll decide to meet at the Training Grounds and start practicing.

Go there when you are ready.

You’ll find it odd that Merula wants to use training dummies to practice.

She’ll explain her reasoning to you.

You’ll point out she wasn’t really successful when it comes to dueling you.

As it seems, she is more than prepared to duel you again.

Shortly after, you will start practicing.

This requires earning five stars within eight hours. All five stars are needed to pass.

The only 5-cost action here is tied to Merula. Prioritize her actions if you want to save a bit of energy.

When you are done training, you will decide to cast the Reductor Curse on one of the training dummies. Trace the wand movement to do so.

The spell will work, and the training dummy will be reduced to pieces.

Merula will praise your skills… in her own way.

You will point out that the spell utterly destroyed the training dummy.

She will smile at you and say she could do it better.

After all, she is the Most Powerful Witch at Hogwarts.

She will sense a bit of sarcasm in your words, and she will ask if you think you’re more powerful than her. There are two options to reply with. If you like Merula, it is somewhat recommended to pick the second option. Otherwise, feel free to go with either one.

She will say that the only reason you won the duels against her was that she was following the rules.

This time, she wants to duel you without having the rules limiting her.

You will agree and ask Merula to meet you in the Courtyard later.

You will have to wait four hours until she’s ready to duel. Since you will likely be low on energy at this point, it is recommended to wait and have your energy recharge in the meantime.

Head to the Clocktower Courtyard once you’re able to continue.

Upon arriving, you will notice that Merula has gathered quite the audience.

You will ask her about it.

Apparently, she wants to see if you can handle the pressure of other people watching you duel.

You’ll calmly say that you won’t allow the pressure to affect your dueling performance.

Moments later, your duel will start.

The task window will display the recommended attribute levels as well as the cost of each attempt.

At this point, you will more than likely have a significant attribute advantage over Merula, so defeating her shouldn’t be too difficult.

Once again, you will end up winning against your biggest rival.

Tonks will say she was impressed by your duel.

Merula will use this moment of distraction to hit you with the Knockback Jinx.

Needless to say, you won’t be happy about it.

She will tell you she is trying to prepare you for facing Rakepick.

Still, there is no way to predict whether or not she will even show up.

Merula will remind you that all kinds of danger could be lurking underneath the Black Lake, which is why you should be ready for anything.

You will tell her you are very aware of that.

Tonks will tell her she is over-exaggerating things.

Merula, on the other hand, won’t agree with her on that.

You’ll ask if she’s taking things too far.

Tonks will try to calm her down.

Unfortunately, Merula will want to hear nothing of it.

She will ask if you prefer having things safe or training for the real fight. There are two options to choose from. These won’t have any significant impact on the story, so feel free to pick either one.

Merula will point out that you need her when you decide to go after the final Cursed Vault.

You will admit that her dueling skills have improved significantly.

She will remind you why she wants to go after Rakepick.

Tonks will warn Merula that her approach is wrong.

You’ll agree with your Hufflepuff friend.

Sadly, Merula will be disappointed to hear that.

Moments later, she will leave the Courtyard.

Tonks will be surprised to see her like that.

Maybe Ben can help you understand her.

Proceed to the Great Hall when you are ready.

Upon arriving, you will be able to interact with some of the characters and see what they have to say.

You will ask Ben if he can spare a moment of his time.

He’ll be happy to have a chat with you. He will ask if Jae managed to obtain a lyre for the Merqueen.

You’ll tell him Jae is still working on it, but he should be able to acquire it soon enough. You will also inform him about your recent duel with Merula.

Ben will kind of understand her point of view.

He’ll ask if you think she could defeat Rakepick alone. There are two options to reply with. If you like Merula, it is somewhat recommended to pick the first option. Otherwise, feel free to pick either one.

Ben will remind you why you formed the Circle of Khanna in the first place.

According to him, Merula acted that way to cope with her feelings.

As for Ben, he’s been taking some books from the Restricted Section of the library. He will show you one of those.

You will quickly realize that the book he took is the one Rowan wrote in.

Ben will ask you to check some of Rowan’s notes.

This requires earning five stars within three hours. Three stars are needed to pass.

There are 5-cost actions linked to Ben and the book. Prioritize those if you want to save some energy.

Ben will ask if you remember the words you said to him and Merula when you found that book.

You will nod and repeat those exact words.

Ben will share some of his thoughts with you.

He will also remind you how important it is to work together and trust each other.

You will thank him for reminding you about it.

You will then decide to meet with Merula and talk to her. You’ll have to wait three hours before she’s ready to see you. Since you will likely be low on energy at this point, it is recommended to wait and let your energy recharge in the meantime.

Proceed to the Potions classroom once the waiting time is over.

Apparently, Merula will be eager to talk with you.

You will nod and agree with her on that.

Merula will once again remind you that Rakepick isn’t going to fight fair, which is why you shouldn’t either.

You’ll tell her you are worried she is way too focused on getting her revenge.

Still, she won’t see that as a bad thing.

You’ll tell her you need to work together if you are to find the final Cursed Vault before ‘R’.

You will also inform her about your conversation with Ben.

Merula will tell you that both of you need to trust each other, which is why she asked you to meet with her.

Apparently, she wants to see if you are willing to take Veritaserum.

You will be surprised by her proposition.

She’ll offer an explanation.

Considering Merula’s proposal requires earning five stars within three hours. Three stars are needed to pass.

There are 5-cost actions linked to Merula and some ingredient jars. Focus on those if you are looking to save some energy.

Merula will smile at you and say that using Veritaserum is the only way to make sure both of you can trust each other.

You will ask if she would also be willing to take the truth serum.

She will nod and ask if there is any particular question you would want to ask her. There are three options to choose from. If you like Merula, it is somewhat recommended to pick the third option. Otherwise, feel free to pick whichever one you prefer.

Merula will ask if you are worried about her going rogue on the mission.

You will share some of your concerns with her.

She will reassure you that she’ll do everything in her power to protect your friends.

You will smile at her and say that you trust her.

The Most Powerful Witch at Hogwarts will be glad to work together with you.

She will be eager to head into the Black Lake.

But first, you will have to see if Jae managed to obtain the final item for the Merqueen tribute.
