Chapter 42 – The Final Vault
Introduction
Hello everyone, welcome to our Walkthrough for Chapter Forty-Two of Year Six of Harry Potter Hogwarts Mystery. Last time, you met with Jae at the Hog’s Head Inn and he brought you a lyre. Unfortunately, its strings were damaged, so you asked him to take the lyre to Kirley for repairs. In the meantime, you decided to assemble a team that will go with you into the Black Lake to look for the final Cursed Vault.
You got Merula, Ben, Barnaby, and Jacob to join you, and thankfully, Kirley managed to repair the lyre, so you have everything you need to meet the Merqueen.

Walkthrough
But before that, you should take care of the lessons. Proceed to the Defence Against the Dark Arts classroom when you are ready. To unlock the Kappa lesson, you need to acquire a total of nine stars from the Defence Against the Dark Arts classes. Select the class duration you prefer and hit Start when you’re ready to begin.
During these classes, prioritize any bonus progress action you see available to save as much energy as possible.
As for the mini-tasks, successfully completing each of those will award you some Courage points.
Return to the classroom once you obtain enough stars to unlock the lesson. To complete the Kappa lesson, you need to earn five stars within three hours. All five stars are needed to pass, which is why it’s not recommended to start this task if you are low on energy.
Pay attention to Bill’s question during the lesson.
When you earn the fifth star, you will need to bow to Kappa. Trace the path on the screen to do so.
Hit the Collect button to claim your rewards. You can claim an additional reward in the Defence Against the Dark Arts section of your Hogwarts Record.
Head to the Astronomy Tower to attend the second lesson of the chapter. Unlocking the Meteor Shower lesson requires earning nine stars from Astronomy classes. Select the class duration that suits you and hit Start to begin.
As usual, focus on actions with bonus progress if you are looking to save energy.
Each successful mini-task should award you some knowledge points, so try your best to complete them all.
Return to the Astronomy Tower once you acquire enough stars to unlock the lesson. To complete the Meteor Showers lesson, you need to obtain five stars within eight hours. All five stars are needed to pass.
Professor Sinistra will ask you a question related to this lesson, so be sure to answer it correctly.
Once you earn the fifth star, you will be tasked with drawing the Star Chart. Trace the path on the screen to do so.
Hit the Collect button to claim your rewards. You’ll get an additional reward for completing the lesson. You can claim it in the Astronomy section of your Hogwarts Record.
Now that you’re done with the lessons, you can go to the Merperson Village to meet with the Merqueen. Upon arriving, you will be able to interact with some of the merpeople. You will happily greet the Merqueen and tell her that you’ve brought all three tribute items.
Then Merula will remind you to enlarge the items. Trace the wand movement to cast Engorgio.
The spell will work, and you will present the tribute to the Merqueen.
You will then get to tell her more about the items while she inspects them. This requires earning five stars within an hour. Only one star is needed to pass.
There are bonus progress actions tied to Ben and your character. Prioritize them to save energy.
After the Merqueen finishes inspecting the tribute items and nods in approval, Merula and Ben will both urge you to ask about the Cursed Vault. You’ll turn to the Merqueen and ask if she would be willing to reveal the location of the final Cursed Vault. However, it seems she has a different idea in mind as she points towards the lyre and gives you a questioning look.
Jacob will assume that she wants you to sing her a song and judging by the Merqueen’s reaction, that seems to be the case. Merula won’t be pleased, but Ben will point out that it’s best to follow Merqueen’s request since you’re very close to discovering the final vault. Merula, on the other hand, will remain as obstinate as usual.
If you completed Audition for the Frog Choir Adventure, you might get some extra lines of dialogue, based on the choices you’ve made there.
Eventually, the Most Powerful Witch at Hogwarts will agree to sing a song for the Merqueen. You’ll then get to choose a song. There are three options to choose from. Each of these will end up with a similar outcome, so feel free to take your pick.
Shortly after, all four of you will stand in front of the Merqueen and start singing. Once you are done, she will smile at you and applaud. The rest of the merpeople will happily cheer at you.
You’ll ask the Merqueen about the vault once more. She’ll nod and will start swimming away, then she will motion for you to follow.
Go after the Merqueen once you are ready. The Merqueen will lead you to the place where you first saw the trident while exploring the Black Lake. Merula won’t notice any trident nearby, but Ben will point to the one nearby.
Jacob will comment that you even came very close to finding the Cursed Vault the first time. The Merqueen will show you the entrance to the Cursed Vault.
Apparently, the vault is located in an underwater cave behind the rocks, much to Merula’s displeasure. However, Ben will try to reassure her by suggesting he has an easy solution to the problem.
You’ll ask if the Merqueen will join you in entering the vault, but unfortunately, that won’t happen, leaving the four of you to confront whatever lies inside on your own. After thanking Merqueen for her assistance, you’ll check if everyone is prepared to confront the final Cursed Vault, and thankfully, they’ll all be more than ready for the challenges that await.
Afterward, Jacob will wonder how you’re feeling. There are three options to choose from. This choice won’t have any big impact on the story, so feel free to pick the option you prefer.
Shortly after, you will cast the Gouging Spell to clear the rocks at the cave entrance. Trace the wand movement to do so.
The spell will work as intended, and you will notice the staircase leading up.
Unfortunately, before you get the chance to explore the cave, you will be surrounded by a swarm of angry Grindylows. Everyone will quickly ready their wands to defend themselves. The task window will display the recommended attribute levels and the cost of the duel. Hit Start when you are ready to begin.
This duel shouldn’t be very difficult since you will more than likely have an attribute advantage and will be able to defeat the Grindylow in a few rounds. One strategy involves going Aggressive or Sneaky and hitting it with Depulso or Flipendo. This way, you should be able to deal a good amount of damage and defeat your opponent easily.
Once you’ve won the battle and driven off the remaining Grindylows, you’ll choose to enter the last Cursed Vault.
Proceed to the vault when you’re ready. Upon arriving, you will be amazed by the cave’s interior.
Regrettably, the entrance to the vault remains hidden from view, causing some frustration for Merula. Fortunately, Jacob will notice some rocks that may be blocking entry into the vault.
But you’ll still need to figure out how to move those rocks. Merula will ask Ben if he knows a spell that could help clear the way, and he’ll recommend using Bombarda. You’ll agree to give it a try and see if it works to clear the rocks. To do that, you’ll need to earn five stars within three hours. All five stars are needed to pass, which is why it’s not recommended to start this task if your energy bar is empty.
There are bonus progress actions linked to Merula and the rocks. Prioritize those if you want to save some energy.
You will cast one final Bombarda to clear the path. Trace the wand movement to do so.
The spell will work as intended, and the way into the vault will be revealed.
Before going in, Jacob will ask you about the approach you should take. There are three options to choose from. Ben will like it if you go with a fearless approach. Taking a practical approach will make Jacob happy, and lastly, Merula will be pleased if you choose a focused approach.
You will give your teammates one last chance to change their minds and back out since there’s no telling what’s inside the vault. Still, all of them will be very determined to go in. You’ll then decide to head into the vault.
Go there when you are ready. The final Cursed Vault will look very similar to the other ones. However, unlike the previous vaults, you won’t notice any treasure in this one.
Jacob will be curious if ‘R’ has any idea what’s inside the final vault. You’ll then decide to inspect the vault. Doing so requires earning five stars within eight hours. All five stars are needed to pass. This task is very different from most of the other ones since you will get a lot of story elements merged into it. Other than that, the actions here are fairly linear, so simply complete whichever action you see available.
As soon as you touch the column, everyone will fall down on their knees.
Moments later, you will be surrounded by darkness, and you won’t be able to see anyone. You will try calling out your friends, but unfortunately, no one will answer your call.
After a while, Merula will appear in front of you and you’ll be glad to see her. Unfortunately, she will call you a disgrace and you will quickly notice that something is off about her.
After a while, Rakepick will appear in front of you.
You will quickly realize that you are reliving some of your worst memories. After a few moments, Rakepick will raise her wand and prepare to cast the killing curse on you. You will see a green beam flying towards you. Unable to do anything about it, you will turn your gaze away and wait for the inevitable…
However, you won’t feel any pain, and after a few moments, you will open your eyes to see poor Rowan lying motionless in front of you.
After a while, your dear friend will disappear, and the same events will repeat until you manage to earn all five stars.
Once you earn the fifth star, Merula will appear out of nowhere. She will quickly grab your hand and drag you out of the nightmare.
Fortunately, everyone successfully left the vault. You’ll inquire if they too had the same experience as you, and it turns out that all of them went through their most painful memories. Ben will ask if you saw anything else inside the vault. There are two options to reply with. If you trust your friends, it is recommended to reveal what you saw.
Everyone will quickly realize that the final vault was designed to drive people mad.
Ben will assume that the vault was constructed as a type of prison, given that there was no treasure within but only a terrible curse. You’ll consider whether ‘R’ truly knew what lay inside the vault. Nonetheless, Ben will propose the idea of resealing the vault to ensure nobody else can enter it in the future. Unfortunately, before you get the chance to do that, Rakepick will appear.
She will congratulate you for discovering the last Cursed Vault, and Merula will be highly enthusiastic about seeking her revenge.
Before she gets the chance to do that, Rakepick will make quick work of her using Mobilicorpus charm.
You’ll see your friend on the ground, needing help. Jacob will ask you to assist Merula while he and Ben try to deal with the Dark Witch. Despite their efforts, they won’t be able to stop her.
You’ll quickly help Merula get back on her feet. Rakepick will laugh at your attempts to defeat her, but Merula will decide she’s had enough of her and she will raise her wand and start casting the Killing Curse.
Once again, Rakepick will be prepared to deal with her former student.
You’ll be the last one standing against Rakepick, and you’ll wonder how she can be so mean.
It seems she didn’t care to know your friend’s name. She’ll say she was trying to curse Ben, but Rakepick notices that he’s different from the last time she saw him.
Once again, she will try to provoke you.
You’ll decide you’ve had enough of her. It’s about time for someone to teach her a lesson. You will then get to duel Rakepick. The task window will display the recommended attribute levels and the cost of each attempt.
This duel can be extremely challenging, especially if you rushed through the story, and didn’t take time to level up your attributes. One way to win this duel is to go Aggressive or Sneaky and hit her with Incendio, Depulso, or Flipendo (depending on your attribute levels). With some luck on your side, you should be able to win after a few rounds.
Once you win, you will notice Rakepick struggling to keep up against you. You’ll quickly use the opportunity to disarm her. Trace the wand movement to cast Expelliarmus.
Unable to do anything, she will furiously demand that you let her enter the final Cursed Vault. There are two options to choose from. This is a VERY IMPORTANT choice. If you seek revenge for what she did to Rowan, you should trap her in the vault. However, if you want her to face justice for her crimes, it is recommended to turn her in to the authorities. The rest of the chapter will differ, depending on this choice.
The following part of the Walkthrough will feature images of the player character choosing to turn in Rakepick.
If you choose to let Rakepick enter the vault, you will step aside, allowing her to go in. As soon as she steps in, you will use the Blasting Curse to seal the entrance and trap her inside forever. If you decide to turn her in to the authorities, you will cast the Incarcerous Spell to subdue her.
Eventually, your friends and Jacob will get back on their feet, and if you decided to capture Rakepick, Merula will raise her wand, eager to have her revenge.
Thankfully, Jacob will stop her before she does something she’ll regret later.
You will remind her that Rakepick should face justice for her crimes, and killing her outright wouldn’t accomplish that. Moments later, you will cast the Blasting Curse to seal the Cursed Vault.
You’ll then decide to return to Hogwarts and inform the Headmaster about everything.
This will mark the end of Chapter 42 of Year 6. Hit the Collect button to claim your rewards. You will receive 300 Coins and 2000 Experience Points.
