Walkthrough
Once you start the quest, Hagrid will ask you to meet with him in his garden, so proceed there when you are ready. You will wonder why Hagrid wanted to see you. Following that, he’ll introduce you to his friend, Martin MacFusty of the MacFusty clan from the Hebrides Islands.
You will politely greet Mr. MacFusty.
He’ll explain that his visit is connected to one of his Hebridean Blacks, and you’ll promptly recall that Hebridean Blacks are dragons. MacFusty will nod, recognizing them as a particularly aggressive dragon breed.
Hagrid will provide more information, explaining that the MacFusty clan has been responsible for the well-being of Hebridean Blacks for centuries. MacFusty will proudly confirm their dedication to these creatures. However, you’ll find it intriguing that such formidable dragons would require protection.
MacFusty will reveal that one of their Hebridean Blacks has been stolen, and Hagrid will say that he wants to help his friend locate the missing dragon. If you’ve had some experience with dragons before, you will get some additional lines of dialogue.
Hagrid will request your help in finding the missing dragon, and you willingly agree to assist in tracking down MacFusty’s Hebridean Black. However, before diving into the case, you’ll ask Hagrid to provide more details. Learning about the missing dragon requires earning five stars within three hours. Three stars are needed to pass.
There are quite a few reward actions here, which should save you some energy.
According to MacFusty, the dragon was stolen by a Quidditch team named the “Banchory Bangers”. He’ll be almost certain of it since they have been trying to get one of the Hebridean Blacks for hundreds of years. Following that, MacFusty will tell you some things about Banchory Bangers.
You’ll ask about the potential location of the dragon, but MacFusty has no leads. Recognizing the challenge of hiding a large dragon like the Hebridean Black, you’ll consider the possibility that it might be concealed in a place where no one would think to look. Shortly after, Hagrid will ask if you have any idea where they might be hiding Hebridean Black. There are three options to choose from. The correct answer is “The Romanian Dragon Sanctuary”.
If you completed Adventures in Curse-Breaking, you will get an additional line of dialogue.
Hagrid will then suggest heading over to the Dragon Sanctuary as soon as possible. Before you can continue, you will need to unlock Hebridean Black. You will need to have level 8 in Magizoology to do so. Also, to unlock this creature, you will need 75 Red, 45 Blue, and 40 Yellow Notebooks. Luckily, the side quest is not time-limited, so you can take your time to collect the required notebooks.
Proceed to the Dragon Sanctuary once you’ve unlocked the Hebridean Black. As soon as you arrive, you will spot a dragon nearby.
Hagrid will confirm his friend’s suspicion that the Banchory Bangers stole the dragon. Promptly deciding to rescue the dragon, you’ll approach the thief and loudly confront him.
This will startle the man for a moment, and he’ll turn around and notice Hagrid and you. He will simply say that the dragon belongs to the Banchory Bangers.
Needless to say, neither Hagrid nor you will agree with his statement.
The man will introduce himself as Lachlan MacKenzie, the starkeeper of the Banchory Bangers, and make it clear that he has no intention of letting you take the dragon. Despite the resistance, you’ll remain determined. In the future, Lachlan unexpectedly draws his wand and casts the Knockback Jinx on you.
As it seems, you will have to duel him to get back the dragon. The task window will display the recommended attribute levels as well as the cost of the duel. Hit Start when you are ready to begin.
The attribute requirements for this duel will be fairly close to your attribute levels, which will make it pretty challenging. There are a few ways to approach this duel. One way involves going either Aggressive or Sneaky and blasting the enemy with Depulso or Flipendo. That way, you can win the duel in three turns with a bit of luck.
Another tactic would involve going Aggressive during the first turn and using Incendio. If you get the burning effect, you can go Aggressive or Sneaky during the second turn and use Depulso or Flipendo. That way, you can win the duel in just two turns. However, if you don’t get the burn effect, or if you get stunned, you might end up losing. Still, with a bit of luck, you should be able to win the duel.
Once you defeat Lachlan MacKenzie, he will decide to retreat. However, he will promise to come back and bring his mates with him. Thankfully, you’ve managed to drive off the thief and save MacFusty’s dragon.
Hagrid will assume that you’ve never seen a Hebridean Black before, and you’ll confirm this as you gaze at the magnificent creature, stating that it’s your first time encountering such a dragon.
Hagrid will be curious to hear your opinion on the dragon. There are three options to reply with. This choice won’t significantly impact the story, so feel free to choose whichever option you prefer.
Afterward, Hagrid will suggest approaching the creature very carefully and leading it to safety. However, as soon as you approach, the dragon backs off into a nearby cave. Recognizing the need to earn the dragon’s trust, Hagrid will figure out that a new approach is necessary. Suddenly, you’ll come up with the idea of feeding the dragon to gain its trust.
You’ll ask him about the food that would be appropriate for the dragon. Hagrid will suggest that dragons like to eat venison and inquire if you know anyone with access to the kitchens. Given Jae’s frequent visits to the kitchens, it seems like a good idea to seek his help.
Proceed to the Mountaintop Cave once you are ready to continue. Once you arrive, you will spot the dragon standing in the cave.
Hagrid will hope that Jae will bring the food soon, and you’ll be confident that your friend won’t let you down. Shortly after, Jae will arrive, and you’ll be very glad to see him. Jae will mention that he’d prefer feeding dragons over serving detention in the kitchens.
You’ll ask Jae if he managed to smuggle some venison from the kitchens, but unfortunately, there was no deer meat available. Hagrid will ask if Jae found a suitable replacement, and Jae will mention that he brought a few different options since he wasn’t quite sure what dragons eat.
He’ll say that he got some cucumber sandwiches, some steaks, and some treacle tart. You will be able to choose the food you think the dragon might enjoy eating. The correct answer here is “Steaks”.
Hagrid will agree that giving the steak to Hebridean Black is a good idea. Shortly after, you will get to feed the dragon. Feeding the dragon requires earning five stars within eight hours. All five stars are needed to pass.
There are two bonus actions tied to your character. Prioritize your actions if you want to save as much energy as possible.
Once you’re done feeding the dragon, you’ll give the creature one last steak. As the dragon starts to feel more comfortable around you, Jae will suggest that it’s probably because of the food. Grateful for his help, you’ll thank him.
Hagrid will then remind you that it’s crucial to lead the Hebridean Black to a safe location before the Bangers return. You’ll propose taking the dragon to the Training Grounds at Hogwarts, and Hagrid will approve the idea.
Next, you will need to reach level 3 trust with the Hebridean Black. Since this side quest is not time-limited, you don’t need to rush it.
Head to the Training Grounds once you are done with that. You will thank Charlie for agreeing to help you.
He’ll say that he is always happy to help a dragon in need. He will wonder how you ended up looking after the Hebridean Black. You’ll inform him that you rescued the dragon from dragon nappers and provide a detailed explanation of the situation.
Charlie will be fascinated by the creature. Your previous choice will take effect here.
While you do manage to bond with the dragon, you will notice that it is still not completely comfortable around you. Charlie won’t be surprised by it, especially after hearing what the dragon went through. On top of that, the Hebridean Black is far away from its home.
You’ll ask Charlie for tips on bonding with the dragon. Fortunately, he might have some helpful advice. Getting dragon tips requires earning five stars within three hours. Three stars are needed to pass.
There are two bonus actions tied to Charlie. Focus on his actions if you want to save some energy.
You will thank Charlie for helping you and sum up the most important tips he gave you.
Charlie will caution you not to sneak up on the dragon. Following his advice, you’ll approach the dragon carefully, and fortunately, it will start to feel more at ease in your presence.
Charlie will be happy about that.
You will admit that you are still worried that Banchory Bangers might come after the dragon.
Charlie will agree that the two of you probably won’t stand a chance against them.
You’ll suggest seeking assistance from friends to protect the Hebridean Black, and Charlie will approve the idea. He’ll mention seeing Cedric Diggory in the courtyard, prompting you to head there while he watches the dragon. The hope is that Cedric will agree to help defend the Hebridean Black from the dragon nappers.
Proceed to the Courtyard when you are ready. Upon arriving, you will notice the speech bubbles above some of the characters. Tap on those if you are curious to see what they have to say. Cedric will wonder why you wanted to meet with him.
You’ll say that you need his help with an urgent matter and then you will tell him about everything that happened recently.
Still, Cedric will be curious about why you’re sharing all this information with him. You’ll then request his assistance in protecting the Hebridean Black from dragon-nappers. Cedric will agree to help, but he’ll ask why you haven’t sought his father’s help, as Amos Diggory, working at the Ministry of Magic, could be valuable. However, due to the urgency of the situation, reaching out to the Ministry is not a feasible option.
Shortly after, you’ll ask Cedric if you can count on his support, and he’ll nod, affirming that he’ll do his best to help. Afterward, he’ll ask if you are confident that you can defeat the Bangers and protect the dragon. There are two options to choose from. If you want to encourage Cedric, it is recommended to pick the second option.
Cedric will suggest making a solid defense strategy. Planning the defense strategy requires earning five stars within three hours. All five stars are needed to pass, so avoid starting this task if your energy is low.
There are reward actions linked to Cedric and your character. Focus on those if you want to save some energy.
You will manage to come up with a solid defense strategy.
Your previous choice will take effect here.
Shortly after, the two of you will head to the Training Grounds. Proceed there when you are ready. Once you arrive, you will notice that the Bangers are already there.
Their captain will demand that you hand over the dragon to them, but you’ll make it clear that you intend to return the Hebridean Black to the MacFustys. Lachlan will laugh, claiming you don’t stand a chance against him and his mates. There are two options for you to reply with. Both of these will end up with a similar outcome, so feel free to pick whichever option you prefer.
Moments later, the Bangers will attack. Defending the dragon requires earning five stars within eight hours. All five stars are needed to pass.
There is a bonus action tied to the Hebridean Black. Prioritize it whenever it is available to save some energy.
After a long battle, you will end up defeating the Bangers. However, Lachlan won’t be willing to accept defeat.
The Hebridean Black will roar loudly, and the Bangers will decide to run away.
In the end, the dragon nappers won’t be able to get their hands on the Hebridean Black. Moments later, Hagrid will arrive, asking if anything happened during his absence.
Charlie and you will tell him about what happened.
The Hebridean Black will approach you and express its gratitude for everything you’ve done.
Feeling incredibly happy after getting the chance to pet the dragon yourself, Hagrid will mention that the creature definitely likes you and inform you that MacFusty is on his way to collect his dragon. Although slightly sad about parting with the Hebridean Black, you’ll be able to spend some more time with the dragon until MacFusty arrives.
To complete the next task, you will need to reach the maximum level of trust with the Hebridean Black. This might take a while, but given that the side quest is not time-limited, you don’t need to rush it.
Head to the Quidditch Pitch once you are ready to continue. MacFusty will be happy to see his dragon again.
He’ll thank you very much for helping, and you’ll modestly mention that others also helped protect the Hebridean Black.
Hagrid will disagree and say that you’re the true hero. You’ll admit that you are going to miss the Hebridean Black, and MacFusty will chuckle, saying that most people are afraid of dragons.
MacFusty will be surprised to hear that and Following that, you’ll decide to show him how well the dragon and you are getting along. This requires earning five stars within three hours. Since all five stars are needed to pass, it is recommended not to start this task if you are low on energy.
There are reward actions tied to your character and the dragon. Prioritize those if you want to save as much energy as possible.
After your demonstration, MacFusty will realize that the dragon likes you a lot. You’ll say that you are very fond of the Hebridean Black.
You’ll then tell him about the recent events.
Hagrid will also say a few words.
He’ll be curious to know which part of the whole adventure was your favorite. There are three options to choose from. There are no wrong answers here, simply select the part you enjoyed the most.
After realizing how much the dragon and you care for each other, MacFusty will decide to let the Hebridean Black stay at Hogwarts. That way, you will be able to continue watching over it. You’ll be incredibly happy to hear that, and Hagrid will also be glad about MacFusty’s decision.
You’ll thank him for his kind words.
You’ll also promise to take great care of the Hebridean Black.
