Chapter 13

Hello everyone, welcome to our Walkthrough for Chapter Thirteen of Year Seven of Harry Potter Hogwarts Mystery. During the previous chapter, you visited the Department of Magical Accidents and Catastrophes. Much to your surprise, Mad-Eye was the one to meet you there. He explained that the Head of Department was busy, so he took it upon himself to give you your first assignment with the department. He told you that a wand misfired in Garrick Ollivander’s shop, so he asked you to interview Mr. Ollivander and find out what happened. Upon visiting the shop, Mr. Ollivander said he doesn’t remember a wand misfiring. You asked him to look for the wand, but unfortunately, he had to leave to attend the meet-and-greet event by the opera diva, Zenith Xeep. You went with him to Leaky Cauldron, where you met Madam Xeep, and learned about the new hair product she’s promoting – Xeep’s Luscious Locks Solution. Rita Skeeter was also there, and you learned that she’s been covering Madam Xeep’s career for quite a while. Before you left the place, Madam Xeep gave you a free sample of her product. Afterward, you went back to Ollivander’s shop where Mr. Ollivander found the malfunctioning wand. Upon inspecting it, he realized that the wand is fake, meaning that someone stole the real wand from this shop. He checked his ledger and saw that Madam Villanelle was the only other person in his shop that day. You went to Flourish and Blotts and talked to her about it. Unfortunately, she couldn’t remember anything. After a short conversation with her, you realized that both she and Mr. Ollivander used Xeep’s Luscious Locks Solution. You figured out that the product is likely a powerful memory-erasing potion, so you quickly decided to report to Moody and inform him about everything. Before that, you can complete lessons and assignments. Proceed to the Defence Against the Dark Arts classroom when you are ready.

To unlock the Gnome lesson, you will need to earn a total of nine stars from Defence Against the Dark Arts classes. Select the class duration you prefer, and hit start when you are ready to begin.

As usual, focus on 5-cost actions whenever they are available, to save some energy.

Try your best to complete all the mini-tasks successfully for some extra Courage points.

Return to the classroom once you obtain enough stars to unlock the lesson.

Completing the Gnome lesson requires earning five stars within three hours. All five stars are needed to pass, so avoid starting this task if your energy bar is empty.

During the lesson, Bill will ask you a question about Gnomes.

Once you’re done with the lesson, head to the Ministry Office to start the assignment.

Amos Diggory will tell you that the Beast Division needs your assistance once again.

He’ll say that Celestina Warbeck’s new song caused her fans to discuss it in depth through the owl post.

You will wonder why the Beast Division is worried about the post.

Mr. Diggory will explain that the increased owl activity caught the attention of Muggle bird-watchers.

He’ll ask you to investigate the matter.

You will happily accept the assignment.

You will need to complete several tasks in order to finish the assignment. You can feel free to do them in any order you prefer.

While doing these tasks, it is recommended to select the duration that matches their stars requirements.

As always, prioritize 5-cost actions if you are looking to save as much energy as possible.

As for the mini-tasks, completing each of those will grant you some attribute points, so try to complete them all.

Head back to the Ministry Office once you finish all of the tasks.

You will tell Mr. Diggory that you’ve completed your investigation.

He will be curious to hear what you’ve learned.

You will sum up everything you learned while investigating the matter.

Thankfully, the Muggle-Worthy Excuse Committee managed to deal with the situation.

You will be happy to hear that.

Mr. Diggory will thank you for your assistance.

You will receive the reward for completing the assignment.

Now that you’ve completed lessons and assignments, you can continue the story. Head to the Department of Magical Accidents and Catastrophes when you are ready to talk to Moody.

Upon arriving, you will notice the speech bubbles above some of the characters. Tap on those if you are curious to see what they have to say.

Mad-Eye will ask if both Ben and you are all right.

You will tell him you are fine since neither of you used Zenith Xeep’s product.

Mad-Eye will say that he sent Obliviators to restore the shopkeepers’ memories as soon as he received your owl.

Ben will ask if they had any luck restoring the missing memories.

Unfortunately, the Obliviators weren’t able to do much for the shopkeepers.

However, they are determined to do everything in their power to help.

Mad-Eye will then ask you to give him a full report on everything that happened since you went to Ollivander’s.

Discussing the details requires earning five stars within three hours. All five stars are needed to pass, so avoid starting this task if your energy bar is empty.

Be sure to slide the screen left and right to see all the available actions. There are 5-cost actions linked to Ben, Moody, and your character. Focus on those if you want to save some energy.

Mad-Eye will sum up your report.

He will ask if Zenith was giving out samples at her meet-and-greet.

You will figure out there are countless vials in Diagon Alley.

Moody will inform you that the Ministry is already collecting the vials.

Unfortunately, they haven’t been able to locate Zenith Xeep.

You’ll figure out that someone told her that the Ministry is confiscating the vials.

Ben will be quite certain she is involved in the whole thing.

He will wonder why she got involved.

Mad-Eye will explain there are plenty of reasons why that could be the case.

You will say it is possible someone is forcing her to help.

According to Ben, she might be doing it out of revenge.

Moody will point out that greed could also be one of the reasons.

He will ask for your opinion. There are three options to choose from. This choice will be referenced later on, but it won’t significantly impact the story, so feel free to pick the option you prefer.

Mad-Eye will say that anything is possible, and he will ask you not to disregard any plausible theory.

You will agree to keep an open mind.

As for your next assignment, he will task you with finding a way to restore the shopkeepers’ memories.

He’ll also warn you not to do anything else without consulting him first.

You will nod your head in agreement.

Ben will ask if you still have the sample of Zenith Xeep’s product.

You’ll say that you do.

Mad-Eye will suggest taking the sample to a skilled potion maker.

You’ll quickly decide to see if Penny might be able to help you.

You will need to wait three hours until Penny is ready to see you. Since you will likely be low on energy at this point, it is recommended to wait, and let your energy recharge in the meantime.

Head to the Courtyard once the waiting time is over.

When you arrive, you will notice the speech bubbles above some of the characters. Tap on those if you are interested to see what they have to say.

Ben will thank Penny for agreeing to meet with him and you.

You’ll be happy to see the best Potions student.

Penny will be glad to see you and Ben.

As it seems, she heard that you started at the Department of Magical Accidents and Catastrophes.

She’ll wonder what part has been your favorite so far. There are three options to reply with. This choice won’t have any big impact on the story, so feel free to pick the option you prefer.

Penny will ask if there is anything she can help you with.

Ben will ask her to take look at the sample of Zenith Xeep’s product.

She’ll examine it and say that she’s never heard of it.

She will be curious to know why you are interested in a hair potion.

You’ll explain that it is not really a hair potion.

Ben will add that someone’s been using it to tamper with people’s memories.

Penny will ask you to tell her everything you know about the potion.

Telling Penny about the potion requires earning five stars within an hour. Three stars are needed to pass.

Be sure to slide the screen left and right to see all the available actions. There are 5-cost actions tied to Ismelda, Ben, and Penny. Prioritize their actions if you want to save some energy.

Penny will conclude that the potion is very complex.

Unfortunately, she won’t be able to tell you much about the ingredients used to brew the potion.

She will apologize for letting you down.

You’ll smile and say there’s no need for her to apologize.

Ben will wonder what to do next.

You’ll realize that you have only one option – talking to Professor Snape.

Ben won’t like that idea.

You’ll remind him that you are doing it as part of your Ministry assignment.

Penny will happily offer to go with you and help you with your Ministry assignment.

Ben will definitely like the idea of Penny going with you to Professor Snape.

He will ask you to meet with him at the Training Grounds when you are done.

Shortly after, he will leave the courtyard.

Penny will say that some things about Ben haven’t really changed.

You will say you are glad he isn’t as reckless as he was during the fifth year.

Penny will give you a serious look.

You will be surprised to see her so serious.

She’ll tell you she is worried about all of your friends.

Unfortunately, most of them didn’t get to see each other very often recently.

You will tell her there’s nothing to worry about.

You’ll suggest focusing on helping the shopkeepers regain their memories.

Penny will say that Professor Snape’s class should be ending soon.

Proceed to the Potions classroom when you are ready.

The Potions Master will be surprised to see you in his classroom.

You will tell him you need his help.

Snape will wonder why he would agree to take a look at the potion.

Penny will tell him it is part of your assignment for the Ministry of Magic.

You’ll say that you need to find a way to reverse the effects of the memory-erasing potion.

Penny will add that Mr. Ollivander and Madam Villanelle have already been affected.

She’ll also say she was unable to figure out the ingredients used in brewing the potion.

Professor Snape will ask if it is strictly Ministry business, or if you are still searching for ‘R’. There are two options to reply with. Both options will end up with a similar outcome, so feel free to pick the option you prefer.

In the end, Snape will agree to examine the potion. He will ask Penny and you to take notes on everything he says.

Taking notes for Snape requires earning five stars within eight hours. All five stars are needed to pass.

The only 5-cost action here is linked to Professor Snape. Prioritize his actions if you want to save a bit of energy.

Professor Snape will say that the potion is fairly similar to the Forgetfulness Potion.

You’ll ask him about the ingredients of the potion.

You will say that you’ve heard something about valerian and lavender.

Penny will tell you that valerian sprigs are used in the Forgetfulness Potion.

You’ll recall Madam Villanelle saying she was soothed by the lavender scent of the potion.

Professor Snape will say that lavender is used in several potions. He will wonder if you can even name one such potion. There are three options to choose from. The correct options are Fire-Breathing Potion and Sleeping Draught. If you select the first option, Snape will give you 5 House Points.

You will ask the Professor about the other ingredients.

He will tell you he needs more time to determine all of the ingredients and create a counter-serum.

Penny will say she is going to stay and help Professor Snape.

You’ll decide to go to the training grounds to see Ben.

You will need to wait three hours until Ben is ready to meet with you. Since you will probably be low on energy at this point, it is recommended to wait and let your energy recharge in the meantime.

Head to the Training Grounds once the waiting time is over.

You will tell Ben that Professor Snape is working on creating a counter-serum.

Ben will ask how long it will take for the counter-serum to be ready.

You will say it will probably take a while since the potion is very complicated.

Ben won’t like the idea of sitting idly and waiting.

He will suggest going after Madam Xeep.

He’ll point out that she might have the missing wand.

You can choose whether you want to agree with him, or remind him of Moody’s warning. This choice will be referenced later on. If you want to keep your word to Mad-Eye, it is recommended to go with the second option.

Either way, you will end up agreeing to go with Ben.

Ben will say that you still need to figure out how to find Madam Xeep.

You will tell him that Rita Skeeter might know where Zenith Xeep is. After all, she’s been covering her career for quite a while.

Ben will suggest you offer Rita an exclusive interview in exchange for information on Madam Xeep.

You’ll admit you’d rather duel the Wampus Cat again than deal with Rita.

Ben will say he heard how you defeated the Wampus Cat with wandless magic.

You’ll tell him that the Wampus Cat knocked your wand, so you resorted to using wandless magic.

You will wonder why he is so interested in it.

Ben will say that you should be ready for anything.

He’ll tell you he’d like to try wandless magic against you.

You will say that wandless magic is extremely difficult to perform.

Still, Ben will be determined to give it a try.

You will suggest starting with a regular duel first.

The task window will display all the relevant information, so hit Start when you are ready to begin.

This duel will either be very easy or relatively challenging, based on your attribute levels. If you took your time to progress through the story and completed most of the side quests and adventures, your attribute levels should be much higher than Ben’s, which will give you a significant advantage. However, if you rushed through the story, and ignored most of the optional content, you might have trouble winning this duel. One strategy you can use involves going Aggressive during the first turn and casting Incendio. If you get a burning effect on Ben, you can go Aggressive or Sneaky during the second round and use Depulso or Flipendo. This should be enough to win the duel, as long as you don’t get stunned. This strategy won’t always work, but it should give you a solid chance of winning.

Once you are done, Ben will try using wandless magic.

Unfortunately, it won’t work for him, so you will decide to demonstrate it by casting Knockback Jinx wandlessly.

Your spell will work as intended, and Ben will be knocked off his feet.

You’ll help your friend get up, and he will admit he’s impressed.

He will tell you to get in contact with Rita Skeeter while he checks some other sources.

Head to the Leaky Cauldron once you are ready to meet with Rita.

Upon arriving, you will be able to interact with some of the characters by tapping on the speech bubbles above them.

You will thank Rita for agreeing to meet with you.

She will admit she didn’t want to turn down the opportunity to interview you.

Apparently, she is familiar with some of your latest accomplishments.

You will ask her about Madam Xeep’s current whereabouts.

She’ll be curious to know why you are so interested in finding Zenith Xeep.

She will wonder if it has anything to do with one of your Ministry assignments. There are three options to reply with. If you don’t want to reveal anything to Rita, it is recommended to select the third option.

You will wonder if the question was part of her interview.

Rita will shake her head and say she wants something way more sensational.

She’ll explain that sensational news sells far more than anything else.

In other words, she will ask you some questions, and you will need to provide sensational answers.

Shortly after, the interview will start. The task window will display all the relevant information, so hit Start when you are ready to begin.

The interview will be fairly similar to most of the friend activities. Simply select the options that are exciting or sensational, and you won’t have any trouble completing the interview. Below are some of the questions and answers to them.

Rita will be very satisfied with your answers.

You will ask her to tell you where Zenith Xeep is.

She will tell you she wants another thing from you before she answers your question.

You definitely won’t be happy with her altering the deal.

Rita will explain that she needs something big for her readers.

According to her, the Ministry is planning something big.

She will ask you to find out what the Ministry is planning, if you want her to tell you where Zenith Xeep is.

Having no other options, you will agree to her proposition.

Rita will ask you to break into one particular office within the Ministry.

Needless to say, doing something like that is incredibly risky.

Rita will be quite sure you have what it takes to pull it off.

You will ask her whose office you are supposed to break into.

She will tell you that you need to break into the office of Dolores Umbridge, Head of the Improper Use of Magic Office.

This will mark the end of Chapter 13 of Year 7. Hit the Collect button to claim your rewards.
