Chapter 2
Harry Potter Hogwarts Mystery
Hello everyone, welcome to our Walkthrough for Chapter Two of Year Seven of Harry Potter Hogwarts Mystery. During the previous chapter, you attended the Start-of-Term feast and learned that Professor Dumbledore made some arrangements for Year 7 students to explore various wizarding careers. You also assembled the Circle of Khanna in an attempt to talk to them about what happened near the end of the previous year. Unfortunately, none of them were very interested in chasing Dark Wizards anymore, and they wanted to have the Circle disbanded now that Rowan is at peace. You then went to meet with Jacob in Hog’s Head Inn to talk about what happened near the end of the previous year. Mad-Eye Moody was also there, and you informed them about Merula. They advised you not to take any immediate actions since you have the upper hand. Mad-Eye Moody told you to find someone at Hogwarts you aren’t close with and talk to that person about the situation, but without going into the details. Lastly, you went to the History of Magic classroom, where you met the Head Girl (or Head Boy), Corey Hayden, who told you an interesting story about Emeric the Evil. Shortly after, Merula arrived and said she is ready to talk with you. But before that, you should complete the lessons. Proceed to the Potions classroom when you are ready.

To unlock the Veritaserum lesson, you need to acquire a total of nine stars from Potions classes. Select the class duration suitable to your liking and hit Start to begin.

As always, prioritize 5-cost actions if you are looking to save some energy.

Try your best to successfully complete all of the mini-tasks to earn some extra Knowledge points.

Return to the classroom once you obtain enough stars to unlock the lesson.

Learning how to brew Veritaserum requires earning five stars within three hours. Since all five stars are needed to pass, it is recommended not to start this lesson if your energy bar is empty.

During this lesson, Professor Snape will ask you a question about Veritaserum.

Upon obtaining the fifth star, you will need to wave your wand over the cauldron to finish the potion.

Head to the History of Magic classroom once you’re ready for the second lesson of the chapter.

To unlock Emeric the Evil lesson, you need to earn nine stars from History of Magic classes. Choose the class duration you prefer and hit Start to begin.

Same as before, focus on 5-cost actions whenever they are available in order to save as much energy as possible.

Each successful mini-task will award you some Knowledge points, so try your best to complete them all.

Return to the classroom once you acquire enough stars to unlock the lesson.

To complete Emeric the Evil lesson, you need to obtain five stars within eight hours. All five stars are needed to pass.

During the lesson, Ben will ask you a question about Emeric the Evil.

Once you’re done with the lessons, proceed to the Training Grounds to meet with Merula.

Upon arriving, you will be able to interact with some of your friends by tapping on the speech bubbles above them.

Merula will be glad to see you and she’ll be curious about the questions you have for her.

She’ll also wonder why you didn’t seek her immediately, instead of asking other people about her.

You will tell Merula she was difficult to get a hold of.

She’ll happily chuckle when she hears you say that.

You’ll then ask her to tell you about her summer.

Unsurprisingly, she didn’t expect you to ask her such a question.

Still, she will agree to tell you more about her summer break.

Talking to Merula requires earning five stars within an hour. Only one star is needed to pass.

There is no waiting time before the next task, which is why it’s recommended to earn a single star and wait for the timer to expire. This way, you should be able to save a lot of energy. It’s also worth noting there is a 5-cost action linked to your character.

In the end, Merula will say that her summer was fairly average. Other than training and studying, she hasn’t really done much.

You’ll point out that she is much more cheerful than her usual self.

She’ll tell you that she feels much better knowing that Rakepick got what she deserved.

Now, Merula can focus on proving to everyone that she is still the Most Powerful Witch at Hogwarts.

She’ll then ask why you are so interested in her summer break. There are three options to pick from. None of these will change the story in any big way, so feel free to choose the answer you prefer.

She’ll suggest having a friendly duel, so that she can show you what she did during summer break.

You will pull out your wand and ask if she is ready for the duel.

Merula will just stand calmly and smile at you.

She’ll then raise her hand and hit you with the Knockback Jinx.

Needless to say, you will be surprised to see that.

You’ll quickly realize she was performing wandless magic.

She’ll smile at you again and say that she’s been studying.

As it seems, this was just a demonstration of her new skills.

She will advise you to study some wandless magic if you want to be on even ground when you duel for real.

Otherwise, you might end up losing against her for the first time.

You’ll decide to head to the Library and see if you can find any books on wandless magic.

When you arrive, you will be able to interact with some of your friends and see what they have to say to you.

You’ll approach Madam Pince and ask if she has any books on wandless magic.

She’ll say she does, but she will be too busy to look for those books for you.

You will try to convince her it’s important.

She will wonder why you are so interested in books on wandless magic. There are two options to choose from. If you decide to lie to her, she will figure out you aren’t telling the truth, so it is somewhat recommended to be honest with her.

In the end, she won’t allow you access to the books on wandless magic since they are in the Restricted Section, for which you’d need a professor’s permission.

If your character is a Head Boy/Girl, you’re in for some extra lines of dialogue.

Corey will notice that you’re trying to prepare for the upcoming duel with Merula.

You’ll be surprised that the news about your duel has spread around so fast.

Corey will wonder if your duel with the Most Powerful Witch at Hogwarts will be as interesting as some of the famous duels in wizarding history.

You’ll calmly say you don’t expect your duel with Merula to be as memorable as the duels she mentioned.

Corey will disagree with you on that, and she will be visibly excited about your upcoming duel.

You’ll inform her that you were unable to get your hands on any of the books on wandless magic.

Corey will smile at you and offer to share some facts about wandless magic.

Learning about wandless magic requires earning five stars within three hours. Three stars are needed to pass.

There are 5-cost actions linked to Barnaby and Corey. Focus on their actions if you are looking to save some energy.

You will be surprised at how difficult it is to perform wandless magic.

Also, there are many different ways it can go wrong, which also makes it incredibly dangerous.

You will point out that you still need to find a way to learn wandless magic.

Corey will say that the best wandless magic users are just below your feet.

You’ll be curious about that.

She will suddenly take out her wand and cast the Exploding Charm on a nearby pile of books.

She’ll tell you that it’s all part of the plan.

Madam Pince will approach and ask you to explain yourselves.

Unfortunately, neither of you will be able to come up with a reasonable explanation.

The Librarian will scold both of you. This dialogue will be slightly different if your character is a Head Boy/Girl.

She’ll then send both of you to detention in the Kitchens.

You will wonder why Corey was so eager to get detention.

She will explain her plan to you.

You’ll be very impressed by Corey’s cleverness.

You will have to wait three hours before you can continue. Since you will most likely be low on energy at this point, it is recommended to wait and let your energy recharge in the meantime.

Head to the Kitchens once the waiting time is over.

You will be able to chat with some of the house-elves when you arrive.

You’ll point out that Corey’s plan to send you to detention clearly worked as intended.

She’ll say that making sandwiches isn’t too bad.

As for Jae, he won’t find it ‘exciting’ to say the least, especially after being in detention for nearly six years.

You’ll recall him saying that cooking is his passion.

He’ll correct you and say that making sandwiches doesn’t really classify as cooking.

Corey will find working in the kitchens fun.

Jae will wonder why the two of you got detention.

She’ll explain that you want to learn wandless magic, which is why she used Bombarda in the library.

Jae will quickly figure out you want to use wandless magic in your upcoming duel with Merula.

You’ll nod, saying that you won’t stand a chance against her unless you learn wandless magic.

Jae will point out that making sandwiches in detention has nothing to do with wandless magic.

Corey will explain that house-elves are very skilled when it comes to wandless magic, which is the reason why you ended up in detention.

Jae will be curious to know how you are feeling about the upcoming duel. There are two options to reply with. These won’t have any big impact on the story, so feel free to pick either option.

Corey will suggest asking Pitts for help.

You will doubt that Pitts will be willing to teach you wandless magic.

Jae will think that asking Pitts isn’t a bad idea.

Sadly, he’ll be too busy yelling at some of the house-elves, so you’ll have to wait for a while.

In the end, you’ll agree with Corey’s suggestion.

She will notice there’s something on your mind and ask you about it.

You will be hesitant to tell her about what you saw near the end of last year.

She’ll notice you’re uncomfortable answering her question, so she’ll offer to tell you some interesting stories from the wizarding world.

You will ask if she has any stories about good wizards going bad.

She will nod and say she’ll tell you some stories while making sandwiches.

Serving detention requires earning five stars within three hours. Three stars are needed to pass.

There are 5-cost actions linked to your character, Jae, and a kitchen knife. Focus on those if you want to save some energy.

You will be surprised to hear there are so many stories about good wizards going bad. And betrayal was often playing a big role in those stories.

Jae will say he feels betrayed having to make sandwiches every day, but he is still not interested in becoming a Dark wizard.

You will say that he has good morals, which is also the reason why you befriended him.

Corey will point out that morality is often not so black and white.

However, she will agree with you that Jae is a good person.

Jae will chuckle to hear the two of you say that.

You’ll say that Corey is very well-versed in wizarding history.

She will add that she’s also a big fan of pop culture.

Jae will wonder why she’s so knowledgeable.

She’ll find it difficult to answer his question and simply say it helps her.

This will only make Jae more curious.

You will notice that Corey is getting very uncomfortable, so you’ll ask Jae to leave her alone.

You’ll also remind him there are more important things to worry about.

Corey will ask if you are concerned about your duel or if you are worried about your report.

Since you aren’t really writing any report on Dark witches and wizards, you will hesitate to answer her question.

Fortunately for you, Pitts will arrive just in time. He’ll wonder why none of you is working.

You’ll use the opportunity to ask Pitts to teach you wandless magic.

He will remind you that he is no teacher.

Jae will correct him and say he taught him how to make sandwiches.

You’ll point out you could work faster if you could use wandless magic to make sandwiches.

Corey will also say a few words to convince Pitts to teach you.

He will think for a short while and in the end, he’ll agree to teach you.

He’ll start by telling you some basics.

Next, he will ask you to try casting the Levitation Charm.

Trace the path on the screen to perform the spell.

Unfortunately, the spell won’t work in the way you expected.

Still, you’ll do much better than Pitts expected.

You’ll then decide to seek Jacob and see if there’s anything he can do to help.

Proceed to the Lakeshore once you’re ready to meet with your brother.

Shortly after you arrive, you will take out your wand to cast Vermillious. Trace the wand movement to do so.

The spell will work as intended, and the red sparks will fly into the sky.

Moments later, Jacob will appear and greet you happily.

He will ask if you’ve managed to get a new friend.

You’ll tell him you found someone, but you haven’t revealed the whole story just yet.

You will also tell Jacob there’s another reason why you wanted to meet with him.

You’ll quickly get to the point and ask him to teach you wandless magic.

Jacob will be surprised by your request.

You will inform him about the recent events.

He’ll point out that wandless magic is very difficult to learn, but thankfully, you already have some experience with it.

You will be surprised to hear that, especially since you don’t remember ever using wandless magic.

Jacob will chuckle and say that you accidentally performed it while you were little.

He will also remind you of some other childhood memories.

Shortly after, Jacob will decide to teach you some wandless magic.

Practicing wandless magic requires earning five stars within eight hours. All five stars are needed to pass.

There are 5-cost actions tied to Jacob and your character. Focus on those if you want to save a bit of energy.

Jacob will advise you to stay focused and keep your wrists loose.

He’ll then point at a nearby rock and ask you to cast Depulso on it.

Trace the path on the screen to cast the Banishing Charm.

The spell will work, but it won’t be very effective.

Still, it will be better than when you tried in the kitchens.

Jacob will remind you that wandless magic is incredibly difficult to learn. Plenty of witches and wizard are unable to perform it. There are two options to reply with. These won’t impact the story in any big way, so feel free to choose the one you prefer.

Your brother will be quite confident you can learn wandless magic.

He’ll even say he might teach you to Apparate soon.

In any case, he will tell you not to worry.

He’ll also say it was Rakepick who taught him wandless magic, and he’ll advise you to be extremely careful when performing it.

Shortly after, you will decide to head back to the castle.

You will have to wait four hours until it’s time to duel Merula. Since your energy will likely be low at this point, it is recommended to wait and let it recharge in the meantime.

Head to the courtyard once the waiting time is over.

Upon arriving, you will notice the speech bubbles above some of your friends. Tap on those if you are interested to see what they have to say.

Merula will say she hopes you’re ready for the duel.

You’ll tell her you’ve done a bit of studying and practicing.

She’ll be glad to hear that and point out at the crowd that gathered to watch your duel.

Shortly after, your duel will start. The task window will display the recommended attribute levels, as well as the cost of the duel.

The first thing you will notice here is that the attribute requirements are incredibly high. Because of this, it is nearly impossible to win the duel, unless you’ve spent a lot of time grinding stats. Unfortunately, even if you manage to win the duel, the game will still register it as if you’ve lost, because losing this duel is part of the story, so don’t get disheartened by being defeated here.

You will find it hard to believe that you’ve lost a duel to Merula for the first time.

She will smile and say that she’s impressed by your dueling skills.

You’ll find it quite odd that she is so nice about winning.

Merula will simply say she’s been in a good mood lately.

Still, you’ll find her behavior very uncharacteristic of her.

Merula will be surprised by your suspicion.

Still, she will continue behaving nice and even offer to help you improve your wandless dueling.

You’ll wonder why she wants to help you.

The Most Powerful Witch at Hogwarts will say that she wants to win a duel fair and square, when both of you are at the same skill level.

She will then say that every wand is unique to its owner, and so is wandless magic.

In other words, wandless magic is unique for every witch or wizard.

You will recall what Pitts and Jacob told you earlier.

Merula will suggest finding something else to focus on.

You will think for a while before choosing a new focus. There are three options to pick from. Each of these will be good enough, so feel free to choose the option you prefer.

After you select your focus, Merula will suggest casting a spell wandlessly.

Trace the path on the screen to cast Flipendo.

The spell will work as intended and Merula will be knocked down.

She will be pleased to see that you’ve managed to successfully cast the Knockback Jinx. You can choose to either thank her or taunt her. If you like Merula, it is recommended to thank her. Otherwise, you can feel free to pick either option.

Merula will calmly say she has no reason to trick you.

You will find it hard to believe that she genuinely wants to help you.

Perhaps Merula isn’t the meanest witch at Hogwarts anymore?

Before leaving the courtyard, she will tell you she’s looking forward to your next duel.

Shortly after she leaves, Corey will approach you, and say she’s surprised by Merula’s display of power.

She’ll then say she knows that the Dark witch you’ve been ‘researching’ is none other than Merula.

Needless to say, those words will catch you off-guard.

She’ll ask you to meet her in the Artefact Room where you can discuss it in private.

Proceed there when you are ready.

When you arrive, Corey will say she knows there’s something between you and Merula.

You’ll wonder how she figured it out.

She will explain there are some things she noticed about your behavior lately.

Also, she knows that you aren’t doing any report on Dark witches and wizards, which was another giveaway.

Corey will also point out that you’ve been too worried about your ‘friendly duel’ with Merula.

You’ll admit that you didn’t think she’ll be able to figure it out.

Corey will remind you that she’s Head Girl for a reason.

She will also say that she wants to show others she’s more than just a goofy joker.

Because of that, she will offer to help you with Merula.

You’ll be surprised that she isn’t angry at you.

She will excitedly say there’s no reason for her to get angry, especially since she would enjoy solving a new mystery.

Corey will say that the two of you can be wizard detectives.

She will even compare you to a famous wizard detective duo – Detective Copper Conebush and Auror Kit Persimmons.

Unfortunately, this will be the first time you hear about those wizard detectives.

Corey will try her best to explain it.

Sadly, you won’t find them familiar.

She’ll then suggest someone you’re more than likely familiar with.

You’ll chuckle and say you’d find it hard to believe Mad-Eye would like being called a wizard detective.

Corey will be surprised to learn that you know Mad-Eye Moody in person.

Shortly after, Corey will suggest teaming up to solve the mystery.

You will warn her that she could get in danger.

Still, this won’t stop her from wanting to help.

In the end, you will suggest discussing the situation before making any decisions.

This requires earning five stars within three hours. Three stars are needed to pass.

There are two 5-cost actions linked to your character. Prioritize your actions if you are looking to save as much energy as possible.

Corey will be shocked to hear that Merula decided to join ‘R’.

You’ll admit that your previous year at Hogwarts hasn’t been all sunshine and rainbows.

Despite all that, Corey will still be determined to help you, and she’ll offer to keep an eye on Merula.

You will thank her for being willing to help.

She will be curious to know how you’re coping with everything that happened. There are three options to reply with. This choice won’t have any big impact on the story, so feel free to choose whichever option you prefer.

You will admit to Corey that she was the first person to ask you that question.

She will smile and say that you can talk to her anytime.

You will thank her for being so friendly and supportive.

She will be very happy to hear that you consider her your friend.

You will feel very relieved after talking to Corey about the things that were bothering you.

You’ll also admit you don’t want to accuse Merula without any solid proof.

Hopefully, the two of you might be able to solve this whole mystery… just like Detective Conebush and Auror Persimmons.

Corey will smile and say that your first mission will be to spy on Merula Snyde.

This will conclude Chapter 2 of Year 7. Hit the Collect button to claim your rewards.

How will your spying mission play out? Will you be able to learn something interesting? Find out in the next chapter of Harry Potter Hogwarts Mystery!
Thank you for reading.
