Chapter 5

Hello everyone, welcome to our Walkthrough for Chapter Five of Year Seven of Harry Potter Hogwarts Mystery. Last time, you were summoned to Professor Dumbledore’s office along with some of your friends. He informed you that you’ll soon be heading into the Ministry of Magic as part of the arrangement he mentioned during the Start-of-Term feast. Since six of you are the most promising candidates for the Ministry, you will start at the Department of Magical Law Enforcement. Later on, you learned more about the Ministry of Magic from Charlie, and you decided to travel there using the Floo network. Thankfully, Professor Snape gave you some Floo powder, and Madam Rosmerta was kind enough to let you use her fireplace to Floo to the Ministry. Before going there, Mad-Eye Moody showed up and warned you that someone in the Ministry is more than likely working for ‘R’. You thanked him for warning you and shortly after, you used the Floo powder to travel to the Ministry of Magic. Now is the time to continue where you left off. Unlike most other chapters, this one doesn’t feature any lessons. Instead of them, you will receive special assignments you need to complete. But in order to unlock them, you first need to complete the story tasks, so proceed to the Ministry of Magic when you are ready to begin.

Thankfully, Floo powder will work as intended, and you’ll end up in the correct location.

You will be able to interact with some of the characters before proceeding.

You will be completely awestruck by the Ministry of Magic.

Not long after you arrive, you will encounter Eric Munch, a Watchwizard of the Ministry.

He’ll ask you to stand still, and moments later, he will use a Probity Probe on you.

He’ll then ask to see your wand.

He’ll inspect your wand and mention some of its characteristics. The choice that you made during Chapter 17 of Year 5 will take effect here.

He’ll then ask you for credentials.

Unfortunately, you won’t have any, and you’ll try to explain that you’re supposed to pick them upon arriving.

Eric Munch will say that you cannot proceed any further without credentials.

You’ll quickly decide to explain yourself.

This requires earning five stars within three hours. All five stars are needed to pass, so avoid starting this task if your energy is low.

Be sure to slide the screen left and right to see all the available actions. There are two 5-cost actions here (indicated in the images below). Focus on those if you want to save as much energy as possible.

You will learn that all other Hogwarts students have already left for their assignments.

In other words, you are the only one who was late.

You will try to explain that Professor Dumbledore sent you, but sadly, Mr. Munch won’t be willing to listen.

Thankfully, you will spot Bill arriving with his dad. He will be very surprised to see you.

If you met Arthur Weasley before, he will happily greet you. Otherwise, Bill will introduce you to him.

He’ll ask if there’s any problem.

You will explain that you have no credentials.

Both Arthur and Bill will quickly offer to vouch for you.

Still, Mr. Munch will be keen on following the protocol.

Mr. Weasley will use some of his wits to convince him to change his mind.

Thankfully, it will work, and Mr. Munch will agree to let you pass.

He’ll tell you to go to the All-Purpose Room.

You will ask the Weasleys if Mr. Munch is always like that.

Bill will smile and say that he’s always been boring.

His dad will use a different description.

In any case, he will welcome you to the Ministry of Magic.

Bill will be curious to know why you arrived.

Mr. Weasley will assume that you are a part of the Hogwarts group.

You will nod and say that you need to go to the Department of Magical Law Enforcement.

Arthur will ask how you’re feeling about your first day. There are two options to reply with. These won’t have any huge impact on the story, so feel free to take your pick.

Regardless of your choice, Mr. Weasley will be confident that you’ll do great.

Bill will also say a few words of encouragement.

Arthur will tell you to seek Amos Diggory in the All-Purpose Room since he’s in charge of the Hogwarts students.

You will thank him for helping you before heading to meet Mr. Diggory.

Proceed to the All-Purpose Room when you are ready.

When you arrive, you will find Mr. Diggory staring through the window.

He will turn towards you and ask you to introduce yourself.

The following lines will differ, based on whether you’re acquainted with Amos or not.

Either way, he won’t seem to recognize who you are.

You’ll try once again, but he won’t seem to care.

You will say that Mr. Weasley directed you to him.

Unfortunately, Amos will look completely puzzled by your words.

He’ll want to know why you came to the All-Purpose Room. There are two options to choose from. Both of these will lead to a similar outcome, so feel free to pick either one.

You will ask him about your assignment and credentials.

He’ll ask you to remind him.

This requires earning five stars within three hours. Three stars are needed to pass.

There are 5-cost actions linked to Amos and your character. Prioritize those if you want to save some energy.

You will sum things up once you’re done.

You’ll ask Mr. Diggory if he can help you.

Unfortunately, he’ll tell you that he is no longer in charge of the student program.

However, he will direct you to Office 34B.

You will thank him before leaving the All-Purpose Room.

You will have to wait three hours before you can continue. You will likely be low on energy at this point, which is why it’s recommended to wait and let your energy recharge in the meantime.

Proceed to Office 34B once the waiting time is over.

When you arrive, you will notice that no one is in the office.

Upon taking a look around, you will notice a lot of cat-related items around. Also, the entire office will look very… pink.

Moments later, a lady dressed in pink attire will enter the room.

She will introduce herself as Dolores Umbridge, Head of the Improper Use of Magic Office.

Before you get the chance to say anything, she will want to know how you got into her office.

You will try to say something, but the words just won’t leave your mouth.

She will ask you to speak clearly.

You will apologize to her.

She will also ask you to address her as Madam Umbridge.

Madam Umbridge will then ask you to explain what you’re doing in her office without permission.

Explaining yourself requires earning five stars within eight hours. All five stars are needed to pass.

There are 5-cost actions tied to your character and some cat-shaped teapots. Prioritize those if you are looking to save some energy.

You will explain that you’re one of the Hogwarts students that were sent to visit the Ministry of Magic.

You’ll also say that Amos Diggory instructed you to come to her office.

You will then get to introduce yourself to Madam Umbridge.

She will instantly figure out that you’re the Hero of Hogwarts.

She will be noticeably excited to meet you.

As it seems, she was planning to have a cup of tea.

She will ask if you would like to join her for tea time someday. There are two options to reply with. If you don’t want to offend Madam Umbridge, it is somewhat recommended to pick the first option.

You will apologize for making a fuss and ask about your assignment.

She will say there’s nothing to worry about, and she’ll be quite convinced that you’ll join her for a cup of tea soon.

Madam Umbridge will admit that she is interested in hearing all about your curse-breaking adventures.

She will also tell you to seek Wilkie Twycross in the All-Purpose room for your assignment.

You’ll thank her for helping you before leaving her office.

Head to the All-Purpose Room when you are ready.

Upon arriving, you will be able to interact with some of the characters and see what they have to say.

Mr. Twycross will instantly recognize you and say that you’re late for your assignment.

You will apologize for being late.

He’ll want to know why you were late. You can choose to mention Mad-Eye Moody or not. This choice will have a slight impact on a dialogue with Mad-Eye later on, but it won’t heavily impact the story, so feel free to go with the option you prefer.

You’ll say that you want to do your best to get things right.

Before everything else, Mr. Twycross will give you your credentials.

He will instruct you to return the badge to Mr. Munch at the end of every day.

Next, you will get to hear about the Rules of Conduct for Students Visiting the Ministry of Magic.

Learning the rules requires earning five stars within three hours. Three stars are needed to pass.

There are 5-cost actions linked to Mr. Twycross, your character, and a Ministry Wizard standing behind you. Focus on those if you are looking to save some energy.

Once he’s done lecturing, Mr. Twycross will sum up the most important things for you to remember.

He will ask if you have any questions about the rules.

You’ll simply say that you are curious about your assignment.

He’ll tell you that most of the students usually get assigned to the Misuse of Muggle Artefacts Office.

However, Mad-Eye specifically requested you in the Auror Office.

Needless to say, you will be incredibly excited to hear that.

As it seems, there is another student that also got assigned to the Auror Office.

Mr. Twycross will say that you can choose to work in Magical Maintenance instead if you want to.

You’ll smile and say you are more than happy to work in the Auror Office.

He will then decide to escort you to your first assignment.

You will have to wait four hours until you can continue. Since you will probably be low on energy at this point, it is recommended to wait and let your energy recharge in the meantime.

Go to the Auror Office once the waiting time is over.

This will be the first time you’re entering the Department of Magical Law Enforcement.

Upon taking a look around, you will spot a familiar face. Tonks will be incredibly happy to see you arrive.

You’ll also be glad to see her.

Not only that, but you’ll be happy seeing an ordinary-looking office.

Tonks will ask if anything happened to you.

You’ll nod and say she’s right about that.

She’ll mention that you weren’t there for Twycross’s lecture on rules.

You’ll smile and say that he still gave you the same lecture once you found him.

She will chuckle and say a few things about him.

Still, he was far better than Madam Umbridge.

Tonks will admit that she’s not really looking forward to meeting her.

She’ll change the subject and say that she is very happy to work with you on the Auror assignment.

You’ll tell her that the feeling is mutual.

She will then ask you an interesting question. She’ll be curious to know if it’s more exciting to go through the official Auror training, or get right to hunting Dark wizards and witches.

There are two options to reply with. Each of those will lead to a similar outcome, so feel free to pick whichever one you prefer.

Either way, Tonks will hardly be able to hide her excitement.

She’ll ask you to duel her, so she can burn off some of the energy.

Also, it might turn out to be good preparation for whatever Mad-Eye has in store for you.

You’ll agree to her proposition.

Shortly after, the two of you will take out your wands and prepare to duel. The task window will display all the important information. Hit Start when you are ready to begin.

All in all, this duel shouldn’t be too difficult. Unless you really rushed through the story, you should have the attribute advantage, which will make winning easier. If you are having difficulties winning the duel, or you simply have low attributes, one strategy you can use involves going Aggressive in the first round and using Incendio. This will give you a decent chance to get a burning effect, in which case you should go Sneaky during the second round and use Flipendo. Those two spells combined should deal enough damage, and ensure that you win the duel. However, this strategy is not 100% reliable since you’ll need some luck getting the burning effect. Also, if Tonks stuns you, it might make things more complicated. Still, with some luck, you are almost guaranteed to win using this strategy, especially if your attribute levels are low.

You will ask Tonks if she burned off enough energy.

She will nod, saying she burned off more than enough.

Moments later, Mad-Eye Moody will arrive and say he’s glad to see the two of you training.

Tonks will be very surprised to hear that he knows who she is.

He’ll simply ask her to call him Mad-Eye, just like everyone else.

You will also happily greet him.

The choice that you made while talking to Mr. Twycross will take effect here.

He will tell you a few words about Wilkie Twycross.

More importantly, he will say that it’s time for your first assignment in the Auror Office.

This will unlock the Ministry assignments. Proceed to the Ministry Office when you are ready for A Hogwarts Life assignment.

Once you arrive, Mad-Eye Moody will say that he needs your help.

You’ll ask if there’s any problem.

Thankfully, that’s not the case. The Minister simply wants an update on Hogwarts.

Mad-Eye will tell you that he needs someone on the inside.

You’ll ask him to tell you what to do.

He will tell you to poke around and see what you can learn about Hogwarts.

You will nod and agree to do what you can.

This will open A Hogwarts Life assignment. To complete it, you need to do various tasks and earn the number of stars required to complete them. Each of these tasks will need you to obtain between one and three stars. You don’t need to do them in any specific order, so feel free to complete them as you see fit.

Once you start one of the tasks, you can choose the duration of it. You can pick between 30m, 1h, and 3h task duration, and these will earn you 1, 2, and 3 stars respectively. Before starting the task, be sure to check out the number of stars required to complete it. In most cases, it is recommended to pick the task duration that will match the stars requirement.

These tasks will behave very similarly to regular classes, which is why it’s recommended to always go for 5-cost actions in order to save as much energy as possible.

Upon earning each of the stars, you will get a mini-task. Completing it successfully will grant you some attribute points.

Once you are done with one of the tasks, the assignment bar will fill up.

When you complete all of the tasks for the assignment, you will need to report back to Mad-Eye Moody. Simply tap on the Collect button to head back to the Ministry Office.

Mad-Eye will ask if you managed to find out anything unusual happening at Hogwarts.

You will inform him that you didn’t find anything out of the ordinary.

He will nod and say that he’ll report it to the Minister.

He’ll also praise your talent for investigation.

With this, your first Ministry assignment will be complete. Hit the Collect button to claim your reward.

This will take you to the Ministry of Magic Assignment section where you can collect the reward.

Return to the office once you’re ready for the second assignment.

When you arrive, Mad-Eye will tell you there’s a problem.

As it seems, an alchemist “supposedly” developed a panacea.

Unfortunately, instead of curing people, it covers them in boils.

You’ll ask if there’s anything you can do to help.

Mad-Eye will say that he needs your help solving the case.

Like with the previous assignment, you also need to complete a number of tasks here. Each of them requires you to earn up to three stars, and you are free to finish them in any order you prefer.

Just like before, for each of these tasks, it is recommended to select the duration that awards the number of stars you require.

As always, focus on 5-cost actions whenever they are available.

Also, try to successfully complete all of the mini-tasks to earn some extra attribute points.

Once you are done with all of the tasks, hit the Collect button to head to the Ministry Office and report to Mad-Eye Moody.

He will tell you that he finally managed to catch the rogue alchemist.

As it turned out, he wasn’t really an alchemist at all.

Thankfully, the side effects of his “panacea” aren’t permanent.

Mad-Eye Moody will thank you for your help.

You will receive a reward for completing the assignment.

This will conclude Chapter 5 of Year 7. Hit the Collect button to claim your rewards.

You’ve finally started your assignments for the Ministry of Magic. Needless to say, there will definitely be a lot more of these in the future.
