Huawei and Honor are rightfully described as two sides of the same coin. Honor is a sub-brand of Huawei and it has full access to the tech of its parent company. But these two companies seemingly have completely different marketing strategies. Honor is dedicated to offering affordable, high-quality products and mostly sells through online channels. These two brands also use independent marketing campaigns and their supply chains are different. The newest Honor product, Honor 10, is almost the same as Huawei P20, only significantly cheaper. Basically, it’s P20 without Leica.
Gaming wise, Honor put in the extra effort to make sure that this phone would offer the best experience possible on Android, in the price range that leans to the affordable end of the scale. It wouldn’t be too far-fetched to say that Honor 10 might be the best budget gaming phone on the market.
The heart and the brain of Honor 10 is the Kirin 970 chipset. This is one of the top chipsets on the market, and performance wise, it’s in the league with other flagship CPUs. Add to that 6GB of RAM, and you’ll have your games launched super quick with almost instant load times. Kirin 970 chipset has a built-in neural processing unit (NPU) that not only enables offline play based on user behavior, but also streamlines your phone’s power usage. The Kirin 970 is a great match for both the Exynos 8895 and the Snapdragon 835. The UI is certainly optimized for this CPU and it just feels lightning fast.
You can even enable the game enhancement features in the game suite. When you add games there, the options you specified for that mode will be instantly applied to the game when you’re playing it. The available options in the game suite are Gaming Mode, Uninterrupted Gaming, and Lock Navigation Keys. These features a host of bespoke gaming modes, AI-powered game enhancements, and network acceleration. With it, notifications and navigation key access can be tailored to suit you and how much you’re willing to be interrupted. You can even lock navigation keys and mute incoming notifications entirely if you wish. So, you won’t get calls from mom in the middle of the scuffle.
Another great feature of Honor 10 is an 18:9 display, which offers a notable advantage, due to the additional screen space. When you have the wider display, your thumbs take up less space on the screen, blocking less of your vision. Concerning the sound, you’ll have one of the best sound qualities from a single speaker system. Also, you won’t have to worry that your device will overheat after hours of continuous gaming since this phone has a strict temperature control system that keeps it cool all the time. One of the biggest fears, when you play online, is losing the connection and getting pulled out of the game. Honor 10 has a smooth connection system that makes a seamless transition between WiFi and phone data.
The oldest problem of mobile gamers is the short battery life. This problem usually occurs at the crucial moment of the game, like being one finishing blow away from victory after hours of a campaign. Then your phone turns off, and after that, your mind turns off, and the next thing you see are padded walls. Well, Honor 10 managed to solve that too. With a 3,750mAh battery which comfortably supports over 5.5 hours of gaming—you know, heavy games which require graphics processing—Honor View10 makes running out of juice en route a thing of the past.
The handset’s Smart Power Management mode learns from your behavior, too. And while we’re most interested in the gaming, it’s worth pointing out that this power supply supports 19 hours of video playback, 160 hours of music playback, 21 hours of 4G browsing or 23 hours of 3G talk.
As smartphones have been steadily getting more expensive, Honor has taken one of Huawei’s best performers, Huawei Mate 10 Pro, and remodeled it into a cheaper (which doesn’t mean worse) device. True, it doesn’t have the best display or camera and it’s not waterproof, but it’s still the ultimate gaming device for that price range. If Honor offered this phone with hardware design from Honor 8/9, it might’ve sold for 600 euros even. Overall, Honor View 10 is an excellent smartphone which offers one of the best gaming experiences for Android users.
