Kojima plans to enter the movie biz in the future, as the community gave off quite a positive feedback. “No surprise there”, “I prefer this”, and “yes, please make this happen” are the usual comments seen on Reddit and other news platforms, while Death Stranding is just around the corner. Now, while Kojima did manage to involve several movie stars who work in front and behind the camera, nobody expected this but it is actually a logical choice. They say that a good story is what makes a good movie, and we know Hideo is full of that.
Death Stranding release date is on November 8, 2019, and in case you weren’t aware who is behind such a large-scale project, it is, in fact, a studio named after one man – the legendary Hideo Kojima. Mr. Kojima is famous for creating the Metal Gear video game series, while he was still working with Konami and several other studios. Once his contract with Konami was terminated in 2015, he formed his own company and created an independent studio seated in Shinagawa. From there, they began working on a new project, an idea which would seem impossible to even the largest triple-A studios in the world. But, their game is coming out in three days’ time, so nothing is impossible.
The game includes movie stars like Mads Mikkelsen, Norman Reedus, Lea Seydoux, Tommie Earl Jenkins, Margaret Qualley, Lindsay Wagner, and the renowned film directors Guillermo del Toro and Nicolas Winding Refn. Several trailers and gameplay features tried to bring the idea closer to us, but we are still puzzled about this upcoming game. It is a unique concept, both in terms of storytelling and gameplay, where the two are actually not that separated. With an innovative gameplay outlook, a dark and engaging story, and all these famous movie stars attached, transitioning into movies now seems a logical pathway actually.
So, how will Kojima do it?
Mr. Kojima says that 70% of his body is made of movies, and I am sure a lot of us can relate. He talked to BBC recently and revealed his plans to transition onto what his heart desires as much as video games – movies. During the 26-minute interview, Kojima said:
“In the future, Kojima Productions will also start making films. If a person can do one thing well, then they should be able to do anything well. I think within the next three to four years, everything will move to streaming—games, movies, and TV shows. When that happens, movies, TV shows, and games will be competing in the same space.”
Mr. Kojima did not put a precise date or revealed any goals as of yet, but it is sufficient to know that he is passionate about it and these few sentences show us his optimistic approach on life as well as his predictions about the media market, which are quite grounded in reality. So, as of now, we can enjoy Death Stranding, while Kojima movies are definitely something to look forward to in the near future.
