League of Legends offseason is finally over, and it was as exciting as it can be with all the transfers, roster shuffles and crazy power moves among the teams. But now, preparations are finished and we can start the new season. Let’s see which teams you should pay attention to in the upcoming tournaments and events.
Let’s start with the obvious. Invictus Gaming is not only the reigning world champion, but they managed to keep the lineup that won the championship. Therefore, the team already has the synergy and chemistry, but also the momentum from the previous success. The key to the success of Invictus Gaming is the good meta which suited the team and the ability to adapt to their opponents.
Next, the Griffin team, which is feared by western teams as one of the most difficult to play against, which was quite apparent this fall, when several Korean teams were defeated by Western LoL contenders. The trump card of Griffin team is the aggressive solo lane focused gameplay, led by a jungler Lee Seung Yong, appropriately called Tarzan. Griffin begins the league with pre-existing synergy and unity, and it’s up to them to restore Korean honor.
Royal Never Give Up (from now RNG) had some rough changes in the offseason, the biggest one being the loss of top laner Liu “Zz1tai” Zhi-Hao. Top laner Yan “LetMe” Jun-Ze took a leave of absence, so the current top laner for RNG is Shek “AmazingJ” Wai Ho, who improved a lot but still lacks the qualities of the best top laners of RNG. It will be hard for this team, but the fans remember they were among the best, if not the best if you look at 2018 as whole. The most of the lineup is still there and the team itself has the potential to be one of the world’s strongest.
On paper, SK Telecom T1 is the best team of all time. It combines one of the best upcoming players, Park “Teddy” Jin-seong, with legendary players like Faker and Mata. It’s more than a super team, it’s the literal LoL dream team. In reality, it would be quite difficult to make all these superstars work together as a team. However, SKT possesses enough raw power to overcome most teams in South Korea, and during that time they can resolve all their issues.
Finally, we cannot forget to mention the most famous western team, which is Fnatic. After its great performance at the World Championship, Fnatic is still at top of the game, or it would be if they didn’t lose a very important player in the offseason. The departed Caps was replaced by a mid-laner Nemesis who has big shoes to fill. Fnatic still has a good sidelane foundation in Bwipo and Rekkles who take care of top and bottom lanes. Hopefully, Fnatic will manage to consolidate until the final stages of the season.
The fans are eagerly anticipating the beginning of another League of Legends championship. It will be quite interesting to watch how the best teams in the world collide against each other in the battle for the title of champion.
