Mobile gaming is evolving with every new game as well as with improved devices. We now can choose to play simple games that will help us pass the time, or choose more serious titles that truly require your full attention. Man or Vampire is a new adventure and strategy RPG from Hidea studio with over half a million installs worldwide.
South Korean studio Hidea was founded in 2012 and had only one employee – its founder Dong-kyu Kim. The first game of this studio Undead Slayer launched in North America and Southeast Asia in 2013 and was ranked on the 5th place in the action RPG genre. But Man or Vampire is probably not only the studio’s best title so far but also one of the most interesting releases for mobile devices in 2018.
The game takes place in Heavens, a world where the souls of the dead live. However, the vampires on the outskirts are presenting a threat to this world which can only be eliminated by choosing the king of the Heavens. And the candidate for the throne is you.
In the beginning, you will meet the Guide who will explain everything and serves as a tutorial. This is a turn-based RPG but it will also require strategizing and careful choosing of characters. As you progress in the game, you will be able to collect new characters and add them to your group. When it comes to loot collection, you have to turn over every gravestone, cart, box or rock. Currency is really important in the game so go and collect the roots of the Heavenly Flowers right at the start.
There is rarely an RPG without dungeons, and so Man or Vampire offers some good old raids to collect the loot and fight bosses. Also, this will get you a wonderful strategy combat experience which you will need in the game. Namely, dungeon bosses tend to just jump out from somewhere and you need to be really clever when fighting them so you wouldn’t deplete your resources.
However, on the plus side, you will get help from the rest of your party. You will choose the members from the available characters you collected during the game. With different characters, the gameplay will be more interesting and diverse. The moment you meet an enemy, a combat mode will activate which is already a classic many players got used to.
When you finish a chapter, you will receive a bunch of rewards like teleport feather, free gems, and an element card. If you want to earn more, you can always take daily challenges which have their own set of rewards.
When it comes to graphics, Man or Vampire looks amazing. It looks as though it belongs on the consoles and not a mobile device. This attests to the fact that mobile games will soon perfect their appearance and become more like the PC and console counterparts.
But the game is far from perfect. First of all, microtransactions are expensive and sometimes overpriced since the amount you get is not worth it the money you paid. Usually, the greedy aspects of the game are off-putting for players and can quite damage the overall feel of the game. And this is a shame when it comes to Man or Vampire since it’s an exciting title when you get over this fact.
