What’s cute, powerful, you carry them around in your pocket and you simply gotta catch ’em all? That’s right, today we’re talking about Pokémon, a world-renowned franchise involving these uber-cute titular critters that spanned a bunch of video games and more seasons and episodes of the TV show that we can count. Now, if you consider yourself a real pokemon trainer, you’ll soon be in for a real treat thanks to Nintendo and Nintendo Switch. As you might suppose by this super-enthused introduction, the new Pokémon game will be released this year, except – brace yourself, Pokémon fans! – Nintendo had actually decided to treat us with two Pokémon-themed RPG titles called Pokémon Sword and Pokémon Shield.
As CEO of The Pokémon Company, Tsunekazu Ishihara kindly explained in their Pokémon Direct, these two games will take place in the brand-new, previously unseen world (or region, if you will) called Galar. What’s so unique and exciting about this new environment? Well, think of charming bucolic meadowlands conveniently dotted with clear rivers and pleasant groves, early XX century-like setting (but with lots of modern details) and magnificent snow-capped mountains rising stately in the northernmost part, and you’ll have a pretty good picture of what you can expect. And, oh, have we forgot to mention a large variety of previously unseen Pokémon at your disposal, to be caught and trained during your sojourn in Galar? According to developers “the people and the pokémon who live there work together closely to develop the industries in the region.” An interesting concept we’ll surely enjoy testing in the future. They also added that “fans will have the opportunity to visit various gyms in the Galar region in their quest to become champion.”
Of course, before you assume the mantle of the best trainer, you gotta start somewhere, so your journey will begin with the choice of three fabulous Pokémon – Grookey, Scorbunny, and Sobble. Take care, though: just because of there’s only three of them (at least for now) don’t think it’ll be an easy choice. Grookey is a simian-typed grass Pokémon, lizardy Sobble belongs to the water element, and as for Scorbunny – he can best be described as a fire-breathing white rabbit and not one to be messed with. Judging by the concept art and screenshots, visuals will take up customary Pokémon cuteness up a notch or two and, most importantly, it will be in full 3D.
As you can see, there are lots of things to be excited about. Unfortunately for all of you who already had already taken your old pokeballs out of the closet, Pokémon Sword and Shield won’t appear as soon as we’d like to. Instead, better expect them towards the end of the year. Thankfully, guys from Nintendo promise that they’ll regularly be keeping us posted about Sword and Shield, so stay tuned of more Pokémon-related news. As most of you know, according to the Chinese zodiac, this year is the year of the pig. However, with all due respect, we at the BlueMoonGame beg to differ – 2019 will be the year of Pokémon!
