In the current indie gaming market, there are a few types of games that thrived. The genres like HOPAs, MOBAs, and collectible card games don’t require AAA production, and if they spawn up some creative gameplay feature, it could take them a long way in the sea of gradually more generic games. The game we’ll be writing about is hopefully one of those games. Primal Heroes is a multiplayer strategy collectible card game, which features duels and team battles. It was made by indie dev studio Esoteric Forge, based in Belgrade, Serbia. This game is still in active development and it’s planned for the release in 2019. The team is still developing the game and they’re open to any suggestion on how to improve the game.
You begin the game with the creation of your hero. There are two polar opposite sides in the conflict, the light and the dark one, with an addition of a neutral side, which is emphasized in the choice of the heroes. Basically, you take your pick between Wizards, Necromancers, and Paladins. We hope we don’t have to explain who of them is good and who’s evil. Each side has their own traits, perks, and characteristic powers. Paladins are holy warriors, fighting for freedom, truth, and honor. They shied the weak, protect the innocents, and wield their swords for those who cannot. Therefore, their abilities are defensive and protective, namely, Defender, Reflect Damage, Revenge and Holy Shield. Necromancers are token bad guys, undead legions who see themselves as the future of the humanity, and mortal coil as the prenatal state. Their goal is to turn all living creatures in the world into undead and drown the humanity into the darkness. Their abilities are Haste, Life Steal, Corrosion, and Infection. Wizards are scholars of old, who manipulate with both light and dark powers and therefore are feared by both light and dark side. Their goal is to reclaim what they deem to be rightfully their and put an end to the conflict of light and darkness. They wield the power of elements, with abilities like Invisibility, Teleport, Freezing Touch and Burning.
Your class also makes you gain access to unique cards and abilities. When you create a hero, you can use them directly on the battlefield and equip him or her with powerful weapons and items. As we said, when things get tough, you can put your hero directly on the battlefield, and turn the tides in your favor. By battling you will earn experience points and level up your character, which gives them bonuses to their abilities.
Another important aspect of this game is a deck building. By winning the duels you’ll be collecting cards and add it to your deck. Before you start the battle, you have to pick the cards from your deck according to your playstyle. You can combine melee and range creatures, various spells and buildings. Some creatures have abilities that work well together, so you can combine them and create powerful synergies with their abilities.
Finally, when your preparations are done, you enter the battlefield. You can choose between PvP and PvE modes, and currently, there are 1 vs 1, 2 vs 2 or 3 vs 3 battles available. There’s even a Primal League PVP ladder which you can climb by winning solo matches or together with your team. The last thing to mention is to mind your terrain because this game also uses a landscape configuration as one of the aspects for the battle stats. So, use the terrain wisely, it might give you that little push in the right direction.
Primal Heroes is one good-looking, smooth playing and a mind-bending game that will mesmerize you with the depth of the gameplay and the number of options it offers. You and your friends will certainly spend countless hours plotting the right strategies and picking the right combinations of monsters and items. This game will be a treat for card games players, once it comes out the next year.
