Rocket League is the game which teased a total multi-platform in several announcements and interviews of Psyonix executives. Last October, there was a public statement on Reddit made by the CEO of Psyonics, in which is stated that it would take a while to unify the community.
A few days ago, on the Rocket League website, Psyonix revealed that full cross-platform is now available in the game. Except for nerdy facts, Psyonix took some of its announcement to thank their ” friends and colleagues at PlayStation” for allowing PlayStation 4 players to join Nintendo Switch, Xbox One and PC players in one full cross-platform gameplay. Here’s the full announcement below.
“With special thanks to all of our friends and colleagues at PlayStation, we are thrilled to announce that starting RIGHT NOW, Rocket League has entered the PlayStation Cross-Play Beta program! Players on PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, and Steam can now randomly matchmake with or against each other in all Online match types (i.e. Casual, Competitive, and Extra Modes).
Today’s announcement is an important one for us here at Psyonix, because we know how much our community has wanted FULL cross-platform support for quite some time. It’s because of YOU, our fans, and our generous partners on all systems and services that have made this possible in the first place. On behalf of the entire team, THANK YOU for your passion and persistence as we continue to do our best to make Rocket League the best experience we can.”
All PlayStation players willing to try out playing with the uses of other platforms will have to enable the cross-platform play option in the options menu. There was also announced by Psyonix that the first update of this year will allow players to join and create cross-platform parties. More details about that feature will be unveiled soon.
Rocket League made a big step toward unification of all players by enabling players from every platform to play on the common servers. It is great news and we hope to see more examples like this in the future.
