Rilakkuma Farm Android is the latest pulse in the farming genre that once rocked web browsers and people’s hearts big time. However, the genre did not die and it has its own fair share of the mobile gaming market space today, just like any other. The games being made are traditionally easy-going, tap-happy pastime delights, and such is the situation with this title.
Development and reception
This title is brought to us by Imagineer Co. as a free-to-play casual game with in-app purchases. It obviously targets wide audiences and the lovers of the farm simulator genre, mainly kids, elderly, and people not traditionally of the gaming sort. On Google Play, Rilakkuma Farm Android already has over 4k votes and a fantastic 4.2-star rating, which is very positive for a casual game. On the iTunes App Store, this game has an even better score of 4.4 stars out of over 6.6k ratings and it is #40 in Family, and we guess the broadest definition of its genre would be that.
If you are not acquainted with the background of the franchise, Rilakkuma bear is a fictional character whose name is on an entire toy line and franchise, produced by San-X. Now, San-X is a Japanese marketing company which is behind the publications of similar characters, like Tarepanda, Sumikko Gurashi, Kogepan, and others.
However, Rilakkuma bear is created by Aki Kondo, who is a prominent Japanese character designer and illustrator. Mr. Aki was formerly employed by San-X and he is credited for creating and producing such characters as Amaguri Chan, Mikan Bouya, and even a Manga Comic titled “Okutan & Danna chan”. However, this bear is perhaps his most notable work and it was published in 2003. It spawned a multimedia franchise besides merchandise, and even its own stop-motion animated series Rilakkuma and Kaoru, which aired recently in 2019.
The farm is run by Rilakkuma and his friends, who began their ploy because they expect an all-you-can-eat buffet. When they arrive on the farm, they find it empty…deserted, and only one letter left which states the following:
“Some urgent business has come up, so I’m going to have to leave this farm for a while. So it is to you, who found this letter, that I leave this farm. But do not worry! I have summarized how to take care of this farm in this letter. If you run the farm well, you’ll have all the treats you can eat”
Our fuzzy friends have no choice but to take matters into their own hands, as we do in our own.
The farming simulation combines several easy-going game genres, like cooking, decoration, shop owning, and similar popular “small games”. It also features garden decorating and dwelling evolution, which includes aesthetics and is quite a rewarding experience for people who traditionally like these farming simulations.
High-end graphics are obviously not a goal for this title as the entire game along with its models, animations, environment, and everything visible has that minimalistic cartoonish style, suitable for the characters. It also reminds of the traditional farming games in visual style.
Rilakkuma Farm mobile game marks the continuous growth of the entire franchise and keeping the farming simulations and casual family games alive. It aims to be a fun pastime, suitable for a wide audience pallet. What the game is intuitive and easily picked up, which means it is great for people who are new to the genre, mobile gaming, and gaming in general. And, its re-playability will definitely suit the needs of all to whom this kind of thing floats their boat.
