It seems that Scosche is not wasting any time. They already announced the new MagicMount Charge3 at CES while their MagicGrip Charge is still getting all the attention. The thing that makes this in-car mount so amazing is that it actually grabs the phone from you via motorized arms. And this is the first, believe me.
Scosche’s MagicGrip Charge is Qi-powered so when you align a Qi phone over it, these arms close automatically. This is quite a change compared to MagicMount Charge3 which has magnets that secure the phone. In a way, MagicGrip Charge is like a small robot you get to keep in your car and with so many features on the smartphones, that is not far from the truth. I mean, you can basically use the phone via voice commands and enjoy the safe driving while making a call.
The option to use the MagicGrip Charge in portrait or landscape allows you to play a movie for the kids even. Also, don’t worry about the phone getting too hot while charging since there is a thermal management channel between the phone and the charger. You will know that your phone is charging thanks to the LED ring that will give blue light. However, if your device is not Qi-supported it will flash red. MagicGrip Charge has a 10W fast charging option but it all depends on whether your phone supports this option.
Now, MagicGrip Charge will be available in several variations. You will be able to buy a window and dashboard mount in one, or just the one for the dashboard. There is a so-called “Double Pivot” that is perfect for tight spaces and vent mount patent is pending but the idea is that it will be easily attached and not obstruct the airflow. This is something already observed on the MagicMount Charge3. However, there is plenty of time to improve MagicGrip Charge and maybe even add some new features since this device will be available in the fall and Scosche didn’t say anything about the price yet either.
