Welcome to our overview of Star Trek Fleet Command buildings! In this article, we’ll talk about the purpose and importance of each building. Besides that, at the end of the page, we included tables that contain upgrade costs, time and requirements for every building in Star Trek Fleet Command.
NOTE: Upgrade cost/time values include all possible research/buildings bonuses for a given level, excluding Prime technologies.
Star Trek Fleet Command Main buildings:

The Operations is your most important building because Operations level determines your player level (important for PvP) and it’s required for all other buildings. Upgrading Operations will increase weapon damage for all ships and you’ll be rewarded with some latinum, construction/research speed ups, and repair speed ups.

Academy is another very important building that’s required for R&D Department upgrades. Upgrading Academy will slightly increase the stats of all officers. Besides that, each time Academy is upgraded and you’ll gain some officer cards.

R&D Department is the second most important Star Trek Fleet Command building, upgrading it will unlock new technologies and you’ll also gain a research speed bonus. There’s really a lot of researchable technologies and setting up priorities will be necessary. However, you won’t be able to research the best technologies (like Prime Damage, Prime Build/Research Speed, etc.) as soon as they become available (outrageous resource cost for that level) without spending some money. Star Trek Fleet Command Research is divided into two branches, Combat and Station research.
Researching technologies in this branch will improve the combat stats of your ships and unlock new ones.
Researching technologies in this branch can make a grind a bit less painful, by giving you bonuses to resource generation, warehouse capacity, additional drydocks, increase in ship repair speed, improved station defense, etc.

Star Trek Fleet Command Shipyard building is where the magic of constructing new ships happens. Upgrading shipyard will increase ship construction and tier up speed. Higher level Shipyard is required for better ships.

Astronautics Studio will improve Research Cost Efficiency every time you upgraded it. This building is quite important because of the expensive research cost, especially at higher levels.
There are three basic resources in Star Trek Fleet Command: Parsteel, Tritanium, and Dilithium. All basic resources can be produced in your Starbase by constructing and upgrading resource Generators.
Basic resources have limited storage capacity that can be upgraded by constructing and upgrading Warehouses – there are also a few technologies that can improve storage capacity.
IMPORTANT NOTE: When you have more resources than storage capacity all production will be halted – resources can be still gained normally by raiding, mining, etc.
Besides that, we also have three rare resources: Raw Crystal, Raw Gas, and Raw Ore. These resources can’t be produced and have to be refined (at the Refinery) before you’re able to use them.
NOTE: For all resources, Generator A level determines maximum Generator B level, Generator B level determines maximum Generator C level, etc.

Parsteel is the most common resource that’s available from the start of the game and it’s highly unlikely that you’re run into Parsteel shortage problems – insufficient warehouse capacity and production on hold will be quite common. Upgrading Parsteel Generator will provide an increase in Parsteel production speed and a slight increase in Parsteel storage capacity. Upgrading Warehouse will only increase Parsteel Storage capacity.

In Star Trek Fleet Command Tritanium can’t be produced at the very beginning of the game, but you’ll unlock first Tritanium Generator fairly quickly. In Star Trek Fleet Command Tritanium shortage is possible but an active player can easily overcome it by mining, fighting Hostiles (AI Ships) or raiding other players.

It is harder to get Dilithium than any other basic resource. It is most often used for research, but constructing, repairing and upgrading Grade 2 ships and higher requires Dilithium (besides other resources). Just like Tritanium, Dilithium can be mined but at a much slower rate and there aren’t many systems that have Dilithium. All in all, in Star Trek Fleet Command Dilithium, is the most valuable basic resource.

After breezing through first 10-12 levels, progression slows down to a crawl and the main reason for that is the introduction of rare resources that are necessary for upgrading Grade 2 ships (Phindra, Turas, Tala and Jelly Fish – if you’re lucky). In Star Trek Fleet Command refining requires raw rare resources (Crystal, Gas or Ore) that can’t be produced in your Starbase. However, there are a few ways to acquire them:
Upgrading Refinery level will increase the amount of refined resources that you’ll gain from one batch of raw resources so, I would suggest upgrading refinery up to the level of the rest of your buildings before refining any rare resources.
Exterior buildings are extremely important, especially after lvl 15
Star Trek Fleet Command Exterior buildings:

This is where your ship(s) are docked and repaired. At the very start of the game, you’ll have only one Drydock so, only one ship can be active at any given time. However, you’ll quickly unlock the second Drydock (in a first few levels) by researching the first level of Fleet Commander technology in Station tree. Additional ships will become available much later – 3rd one unlocks at level 17, Fleet Commander Lvl 2 research.
Upgrading Drydock will increase ship repair speed and improve ship repair efficiency – in short, your ships will be repaired faster and repairs will cost less. This may not seem overly important during the first 10 levels or so, because you can instantly (or almost instantly) repair your ships. After level 15, this becomes one of the most important buildings for Star Trek Fleet Command PvP, since both upgrade cost and repair time are increased (a lot) and you really want your ships to be combat ready as soon as possible. Also, a decrease in resource cost is more than welcomed – in Star Trek Fleet Command Tritanium and Dilithium repair cost of higher grade ships can be quite expensive.
NOTE: Drydock A level, most often, determines the maximum level of other Drydocks (B, C, etc.).

Defense platform we’ll be absolutely useless building until you hit level 15 and the PvP starts. At this point, it suddenly becomes the most important building, since it will greatly increase your station defensive power – without upgraded defense platform you’ll be a very juicy target, that’s probably going to get raided regularly. With all that sad, I would suggest fully upgrading your defense platforms before advancing to level 15, and even prioritizing these building, every time you upgrade Operations (level up).
NOTE: Defense Platform A level, most often, determines the maximum level of other Defense Platforms (B, C, etc.).
