Era of Legends Review

The Era of Legends Review

I remember when World of Warcraft showed up back in 2004. Suddenly, nothing else mattered and the game became more important than cramming for a test, going to work or getting out of the house altogether. It was hard to get separated from the game day and night. But what if today, you can have a WoW-ish experience and still be able to do your usual daily chores, errands, and responsibilities? What if, you could take the game with you instead of living it at home to wait until you come back? Well, the Era of Legends is your answer.

While you will probably find others calling Era of Legends a rip off of WoW, I see it as a much-needed look-alike mobile version of the famous Blizzard title. After all, it’s like with the books: you read the one you like and you want to read more like it in the future. The Era of Legends offers a WoW-like experience without asking players to stay glued to their desks at home, which is something people actually look in a game these days. Aside from professional gamers and gaming enthusiasts, regular people don’t want the games to take over their lives but still crave the adventure they offer. Therefore, titles like the Era of Legends which are inspired by big games like World of Warcraft have a positive impact on the gaming community.

The Era of Legends was developed by the 101XP studio and published by Chinese giant Tencent with the first release in China and following a March 2019 release in the West for Android devices. Being an MMORPG, the game features eight character classes like a witch, warrior, archer, druid, mage, shaman, priest, and assassin. It’s an open world game and you can explore it and roam around looking for quests, just like in WoW. Also, you will be able to participate in raids, go into dungeon mode and try the PvP system with 3v3 and 5v5 mechanics.

However, there is one thing that makes Era of Legends stand out from the other MMORPG lot, and that’s the Magic Beasts feature. Basically, a player can cast Magic Beasts to aid them in battles and offers a considerable strategic advantage over enemies and even heal your character.

On the other hand, there is an annoying thing with most MMORPGs these days and that is “auto” for everything. Players can hardly do anything by themselves with the Auto Mode present which is great for inexperienced and casual players, but those of us who know the mechanics find these feature a little bit insulting. I mean, you go on quests and basically, everything is done by itself. Thankfully, Auto Mode is reserved for quests, while dungeons are free from it and require tactics.

When it comes to characters, you can’t change much regarding them. You can change the skin which will completely affect the way your character looks, but you can’t modify any characteristics individually which is a bit disappointing. I mean, customization is a great feature in RPGs that allows you to make your character stand out and be unique, but here that is not available and you will quickly find a lot of clones running around which can be confusing.

The first dungeon here is called Whimpering Cavern which many will rightfully find very similar to the Wailing Caverns in WoW. Now, the resemblance is really not a bad thing although I can imagine that hardcore WoW fans will go berserk. But on a more positive note, Auto Mode doesn’t work well here so you will have to show off your skills. However, even then, it’s not very challenging and you will get the hang of things pretty fast.

When it comes to graphics, the Era of Legends looks amazing. The production makes this game by far one of the most graphically amazing MMORPGs in a while. 101XP really put an effort into making this game visually attractive and homage to WoW is present in some skins and artistic expression. Visual features do make the gaming experience better or worse, and designers of the Era of Legends know this.

Although the Era of Legends doesn’t hide that it draws inspiration from World of Warcraft, it still offers an experience that is only unique to this game. After all, many have probably wondered what would WoW look like in a mobile version and I believe that Era of Legends is a fine example of that. The game is nothing mind-blowing, but it is also worth the time. If you never had a chance to play WoW, but always wanted to, the Era of Legends is the perfect title for you. It’s also great for those who feel nostalgic and want a WoW-like game that won’t consume their time. Even though the game is not perfect, its faults will unlikely to make you regret the download and installation.

Currently, the game is available for Android on Google Play, while it is in pre-order phase on the App Store and is expected to become available on March 26.

If you are a fan of MMORPG’s make sure to check out Dragon Nest M, we recommend it wholehearted!
