Hello everyone, welcome to our Walkthrough for Queen Marie Chapter 2 Stage 4 of Dress up Time Princess. Previously, the King hosted a banquet to celebrate the success of the tax reform. Many of the nobles who supported the reform attended the banquet, and almost everyone was cheerful and in good spirits. However, you noticed that Gabrielle was very sad and after talking to her, you learned that her husband and several other nobles are rebelling against the reform. This completely ruined your mood, so you went out to clear your head. After walking through the garden, you met either Fersen or Lafayette, and you talked for a while about the recent events. Now is the time to figure out what to do about the nobles who are refusing to pay their taxes. The stage window will display all of the important information. Hit Start when you are ready to begin.
Madam Deniau will arrive at your chambers to inform you that the King has invited you to his study for a discussion. You will nod and decide to quickly get dressed.
This time, you should pick the clothes and accessories with Grand and Elegant tags.
Upon entering the King’s study, you will hear Lafayette informing the King that most of the nobles have already paid their taxes. However, there are still some of the nobles who refuse to pay. Louis XVI will be furious about it.
Blaisdell will point out that the tax reform wasn’t set in place by the clergy, nor did it go through a panel of nobles, which is why some of them don’t regard it as law. The majority of those nobles include some who are in debt or are unable to pay their taxes.
This will make you think about Gabrielle. You didn’t hear from her ever since the banquet and you will be wondering if she is okay. The only information you got on her was some gossiping of noble ladies.
Fersen will say that some nobles are purposefully refusing to pay their taxes, and have even banded together to oppose the tax reform. What’s worse is that they started rallying people to their cause, saying that true equality will only come once the royal family loses its power. According to Fersen, many people are supportive of that idea.
Lafayette will point out that the tax reform aims to help the people, and there are plenty of common folks who are supporting it. The King will nod, saying that introducing the tax reform was the right choice.
Louis XVI will decide to take action and so something about the rebel nobles. At that moment, he will look full of determination, his voice will carry a lot of power in it, and his eyes will be gleaming. You will realize that he is the one and only ruler of France.
Everyone in the room will be astounded by the King’s determination. They will all nod their heads in approval. You will notice a smile on Blaisdell’s face. He will agree with Louis XVI that something needs to be done about the rebels. He’ll point out that the punishment for evading taxes is very clear. He will ask who shall be the first one to get punished.
After thinking for a while, the King will want the names of the nobles who haven’t paid their taxes yet. Blaisdell will start listing the names. Among them will be the Count of Provence, Duke Villars, Count Mondego, and some small noble families banded together by Duke Polignac.
Everyone in the room will be shocked to hear that. After all, Gabrielle is one of your closest friends, and nobody expected her husband to be the one to openly oppose the tax reform.
You will finally realize why Gabrielle seemed so ashamed and why she begged for your forgiveness. You will apologize for not being able to persuade them to accept the tax reform. The King will calmly say it wasn’t your fault. After everything you’ve done for Gabrielle’s family, nobody expected them to be so ungrateful and betray you like that.
You will thank him for being so understanding and ask if he decided who to punish first. He will still consider the options and ask if anyone has any suggestions. Lafayette will suggest starting with the Count of Provence since he’s of royal blood and is openly defying the throne. Blaisdell will be against that idea since the Count of Provence is the King’s younger brother.
Lafayette will point out that nobody should be getting any special treatment. The King will nod, saying he agrees with it. After all, if one of his family members is not willing to support him, that is an insult to his bloodline. Also, punishing the Count of Provence will more than likely send a clear message to everyone else.
Blaisdell will say there are other, more suitable candidates for getting punished. Fersen will nod, saying that attacking the Count of Provence might provoke him into gathering the other nobles to launch a public protest against the throne. He’ll suggest waiting for a while until everything stabilizes.
Still, there needs to be someone else who should get punished first. Blaisdell will smile and suggest the Duke of Polignac as the most suitable one. Fersen will be against it since that would put you in a very uncomfortable situation.
You will think for a while and figure out that Duke Polignac has been profiting from Gabrielle’s friendship with you. And now that they’ve lost your support, they aren’t able to live lavishly. The King will look at you and ask if you are comfortable with the idea of punishing Duke Polignac. He’ll also propose the alternative.

You will think for a while before deciding what to do.
If you choose for Gabrielle’s sake, you will be afraid of what might happen to her should you decide to punish her family first. This will grant you some Goodwill with her.
In any case, you will suggest giving Gabrielle’s family a bit more time to collect the money to pay the taxes. The King will look at you and say it might be a possibility. Blaisdell, on the other hand, will disagree saying that every other noble could use the same excuse to avoid paying their taxes.
In the end, the King will decide to punish Duke Villars and Count Mondego first. Lafayette will be worried if some people will think that the royal court is giving certain nobles special treatment. Unlike him, Louis XVI won’t worry about that too much.
In any case, you will realize there’s no perfect solution, and no matter what, the choice had to be made. Now you need to take responsibility for whatever happens next. This is pretty much the last chance you’re giving to the Polignac family.
If you choose for the sake of France, you will realize you cannot have favorites if the reform is to succeed. On top of that, if someone starts spreading the idea that the Queen is bending the law for personal reasons, things could only get worse. You will take a deep breath and make a difficult, but just decision.
You’ll look at the King and say you won’t let your personal feelings get in the way of the law. You will say you won’t make any exceptions for the Polignac family. Like everyone else, they must pay taxes. Everyone in the room will look at you in silence. The King will be shocked to hear this. This will grant you some Goodwill with him, Fersen, and Lafayette.
Louis XVI will ask if you are certain about it. You will smile at him and nod. He will turn to Blaisdell and ask him to handle the matter. You will notice a smile of satisfaction on Blaisdell’s face.
Both Fersen and Lafayette will be certain you’ve made the right choice. Not just them, but everyone else in the room will be praising you. Still, you won’t feel happy about the choice you had to make.
Unfortunately, there’s no perfect solution. The decision had to be made, and now you have to take responsibility for whatever happens next. You will close your eyes and think of Gabrielle, hoping that she would understand.
