The Dark Elves’ Grand Elder also told me your curse was connected to the Great War. After meeting with the Queen, you return to your room full of confidence, mulling over her blessing and trying to decipher its meaning. But you pondered with your chin in hand for half a day, still unable to understand its meaning. You could not help but scratch your head in irritation.

But this blasted curse makes you feel no glory, only fear. But this blasted curse makes you feel no glory, only fear. You wonder what does ‘’Fate always grants living beings a choice’’ means. If you think back, there have been many times when you hesitated and decided. In other words, if you can make the right choices, you will achieve a ‘’Badge of Honor’’.

Thinking this, you look up excitedly and stare at the sunlight spilling through the leaves. Then you close your eyes to enjoy this long-awaited lightness. Suddenly, a familiar scent wafts through the room, reminding you of a certain dark-skinned elf. You hastily open your eyes and look around; the room is empty and there is no sign of her. A wave of inexplicable loss creeps into your heart, and you turn your head aside to shoo away this nameless emotion.

A hand suddenly rests on your shoulder. Simultaneously, a soft, lazy voice and hot, wet breath stir the air by your ear. You are startled by the sudden movement. When you turn around, arms crossed, you see that familiar face. It is the Dark Elf Salvia.

Salvia’s golden eyes are full of laughter. You feel a little embarrassed, but you can’t take your eyes from her face. Then you suddenly notice the lines on her face are not quite the same as before. They look red and swollen. An emotion you have never felt before touches your heart. You can’t stop yourself from going to her and gently touching those lines. Salvia looks as if she has been stung. She can’t suppress a shudder, and you hastily withdraw your hand.

The Dark Elf Salvia shakes her head. Looking at her smiling face it occurs to you that she didn’t dodge your hand. She has a small injury. Salvia says that when they want to go out in the sunlight, Dark Elves must pay the price. After all, they are the ‘’evil elves of darkness’’. Just by saying that, Salvia shrugs indifferently. Her face still wears a smile, but the laughter in her eyes is fading.

Remembering the fever, you felt when you touched the marks on her face, that unknown emotion in your heart intensifies. Salvia says that this is not her first time in the sun. Sometimes you have no other choice if you need to gather information.

Salvia underwent training a long time ago, and it minimizes the damage caused by the sun. Although, if one of them has not undergone the training and appears directly in the sunlight, they might have an undesirable outcome. Salvia’s expression becomes a little serious, and she falls silent. Affected by her mood, you lower your head and do not ask what she was going to say.

You look up at her Eyes crinkled, she laughs smugly just like a child who’s gotten away with a prank. You are a little overwhelmed, but that strange feeling has become clearer and clearer, as if in response to something. Salvia seems pleased with your reaction. She pats your head and smiles gently.

You will say that your name is Zoya. Salvia replies that they have found a way to break your curse. However, you must first complete their task, before Salvia can tell you what it is. You step forward and grasp Salvia’s hand tightly, looking at her with eagerness. You have things you want to do, but so do the Dark Elves, and they are equally important. She smiles faintly and hands you an exquisite dagger.

Salvia is right. The dagger is small enough to fit in your sleeve. You can easily carry it with you. But the question is, should you really do this? Option 1 (Take the dagger) or Option 2 (Hesitate).

Take the dagger
Hesitate

If you select Option 1 (Take the dagger), Salvia goodwill goes up. You will say to yourself that you do not want to do this. But you do want to live. After struggling for a while, you raise your right hand. But then you don’t reach out, and it stays frozen in mid-air. Salvia looks at you calmly, her golden eyes full of encouragement. Suddenly, you think of the day you went with her to the Land of Darkness. You remember that barren land.

Thinking of this, you grit your teeth and take the exquisite dagger. You do this job and she will tell you how to break your curse. Salvia rubs the tip of her nose against your face. You look at the dagger in your hand, finding it very heavy. Just then, a burst of footsteps comes from the distance.

You open your mouth, but not a sound comes out. Salvia pats your shoulder and disappears into the shadows. The footsteps are coming closer. Panicked, you scan the room for a place to hide the dagger. The Cardinal’s voice sounds behind you, and you are so startled the dagger, loose in your hand, falls to the ground.

If you select Option 2 (Hesitate), you will say to yourself that you do not want to do this. But you do want to live. After struggling for a while, you raise your right hand. But then you don’t reach out, and it stays frozen in mid-air. Salvia looks at you calmly, her golden eyes full of encouragement. Suddenly, you remember the vow you made to Olga. You promised her you would fulfill the Holy Maiden’s mission. Thinking of this, your right hand droops down.

Just then, a burst of footsteps rushes by, interrupting you. Salvia surveys the house, her expression becoming grim. She says that you don’t have anyone else to help you to break the curse. You have to do this job or you will die. So, saying, she shoves the dagger into your hand and disappears into the shadow.

Just then, a burst of footsteps comes from the distance. The Cardinal’s voice sounds behind you, and you are so startled the dagger, loose in your hand, falls to the ground.

You say that it was a candlestick. You don’t know what to do except turn and face the Cardinal, trying desperately to hide the dagger beneath your skirt. The Cardinal looks impatient. He frowns. Perhaps your devout prayers worked; although he is still frowning, he does not press the issue. He says that you came to East Viera with a responsibility to all humankind. You must bring back the Oracle and pray for good fortune for the people. The Cardinal Alexei nods, his expression serious as always. Although you are not the Holy Maiden chosen by the Church, you could not have come this far if it were not for the gods’ will.

Alexei says that you must fulfill those duties since you have come to East Viera as the Holy Maiden. During tomorrow’s Sacred Tree Ritual, you must listen carefully to the gods’ instructions, memorize every word, and then relay it back to Alexei as you heard it.

The Cardinal Alexei nods and turns to leave. After taking a few steps he suddenly stops and looks back at you with a serious expression. The most important thing is to remember not to ask the other elves the meaning of the Oracle.

You had no thought of inquiring about the Oracle, but the Cardinal’s deliberate emphasis makes you take notice. He says that you should not ask the other elves the meaning of the Oracle to satisfy your curiosity. It is disrespectful to the gods. You need to only memorize every word and relay them to Alexei. When you return to West Viera, you will tell everyone the meaning. The Cardinal Alexei looks a bit anxious, which in turn makes you suspicious.

Remember what the Queen said to the Cardinal, something occurs to you. Startled by your own bold thought, you look up at the Cardinal Alexei. Seeing the alarm on your face, the Cardinal frowns. He takes a step towards you, the look in his eyes menacing. Do you understand? Option 1 (I understand) or Option 2 (I can’t promise that).

I understand.
I can't promise that.

If you select Option 1 (I understand), you will say that you know your job. You understand what to do. Though you have any questions, while faced with the Cardinal, who looks like he might hurt you, you decide to play it safe. Hearing your agreement, the Cardinal’s face finally eases. He folds his hands before him and looks at you with a smile.

You put your head down and do your best to look obedient. The Cardinal pats you on the shoulder and then leaves. Though you are sighing with relief inside, you watch the Cardinal depart with your hands folded and a smile on your face. You are afraid he will suddenly turn back around and see your relieved expression. Suddenly, the Cardinal stops in his tracks. Your heart, which has slowed a bit, quickens again.

Fortunately, the Cardinal does not turn around; he simply nods to someone outside and then strides away. It is only then you see Emilio standing there.

If you select Option 2 (I can’t promise that.), you will say that you can’t promise that. And the Cardinal’s expression becomes fiercer and you feel a little afraid. But you promised Olga you would fulfill the Holy Maiden’s mission for her.

You may only remember those gibberish words for a short while. By the time you see him, you will most likely have forgotten them. You came to East Viera to deliver the words of the gods to humankind. If you accidentally deliver the wrong message, then surely the gods will not forgive you. When the Cardinal hears your explanation, his expression eases a little, but his frown is still tight.

You are interrupted by the Cardinal; whose loud voice reveals his anxiety. Alexei says that the Oracle is the will of the gods. It is lofty and cannot be heard by just anyone. You must memorize every word. Afterward, he will find you as soon as possible. But if you can fulfill the duties of the station, then by the love of the gods, Alexei will turn a blind eye.

So, his reasons for stopping you from understanding the Oracle are not so simple. When you say nothing, Alexei grows even more anxious. It feels like he could turn and attack you at any moment. If you don’t agree, he will throw you in jail, and then he could say that he was the one who heard the Oracle. Either way, he could say it means whatever he wants. It’d be better to agree for now and make a better plan later. Thinking this, you pretend helplessness and give a long sigh. When you look up again, your face is a mask of earnestness.

The Cardinal nods impatiently and leaves.

Emilio asks you about some suspicious figures in the garden. You can’t say that the Dark Elf Salvia was here. You will say that you have not seen any suspicious figures.

Emilio and other elves have found some suspicious footprints, likely left by a Dark Elf.

He did fine but you should not worry. He and his crew will take care of it. They will strengthen the defense by your living quarters and make sure to keep you safe. You should keep an eye out for yourself, especially when night falls.

Emilio nods to you and departs. When he is out of your sight, you release a long breath. Your body suddenly feels a little weak, and you sit down suddenly. Your fingers touch something cold. Suddenly, you remember there’s a dagger on the ground.

You scramble for the dagger and look around the entire room, but you can’t find a good hiding place. You tap your chin in contemplation and decide. You find a rope to tie the dagger to and hang it on the wall. The dagger is finely crafted and will hang perfectly with these decorations.

You clasp your hands together and give a soft sigh. The sunlight slants in and gathers into a small point of light on the dagger. Emilio will strengthen the defense. So, when Salvia wants to sneak in again, it won’t be easy. You stare at that point of light and think over everything that has happened today. The Queen, Salvia, the Cardinal… They all jumbled together in your mind. You don’t know if you made the right choices today. And you don’t want the future has in store. Tingling pain in your wrist interrupts your thoughts. You push up your sleeve, sighing at the sight of the bright red mark. Dragging your tired body outside, you find the sky is dark. It is so late already. You must change into the proper clothes and go for the baptism. You should not overdress for the baptism. But you must be discreet at the same time. A Simple and Gentle outfit seems best for the occasion.

The temple is empty, and the wavering candlelight makes the sacred spring appear even more mystical. Still full of anxiety about the future, you walk mechanically to the sacred spring to complete what must be done.

Slowly, you descend the steps. Their dampness sends a chill down your spine. Soon, your toes dip into the sacred spring, and ripples of water blur your reflection. You walk to the pool’s center, feeling the water rise to your waist, soaking your clothes. With the candles swaying in the temple, you scoop up and a handful of water and pour it over your head. Coldwater streams down your face. You feel a touch of reassurance. Your movements gradually go from mechanical to reverent. The Queen’s gentle words echo in your ears. ‘’Fate always grants living beings a choice. Thus, I bless you’’. The words that marked the end of stage 16. The moment when life turns in another direction. We are nearing the end, stay with us. Follow our walkthrough.
