Zeus

How to counter Zeus in AoW3?

This is a complicated issue because Zeus is overwhelmingly resilient, powerful and is almost impossible to ignore.  With Thermoelectric Gun being able to break apart anything moving on land or the water. With Missile Launcher on top, not even low flying air units are safe and will think twice before entering a range of this behemoth of a tank.

Now back to the issue of dealing with Zeus when you are Resistance. First thing first, Zeus’s only weakness is his mobility or the lack of it. Now when this is the only weakness then it needs to be dealt with in a context of army vs army. Being slow is not just detriment for the unit itself, but when that unit has a role in army composition, and one of the Zeus roles (outside of “havoc and destruction” provider) is to take some punishment meant for squishier parts of a formation. So if you face these giants on the field, here ‘s what you do: for starters fall back and let the enemy formation stretch while his fast and light units will go forward on his own. If the enemy player is really good he will consolidate formation fast, but if he wants to move forward anyway he will be vulnerable to pokes from your long range or fast units, like Snipers and Coyotes. Keep harassing and engaging them so the only option he can do is hold the position. If you get his fast units away from Zeus, then clean them up and again retreat. Do this until the only handful of units are left and now you should be able to deal with these tanks. Even if the majority is dead, still you can’t just send everything on them, you MUST spread units to the best of your abilities because Thermoelectric Gun have huge blast radius and no one can afford multiple units to be hit with this weapon. In case you can't be bothered to micromanage all that many different units, the alternative is to create tons and tons of grenadiers, slightly ineffective, but at least simple way.

If, however you found yourself on the Confederate side, don’t forget to bring Torrents to the field and enforce what is in military terms known as “Creeping barrage”. This is tactic where you hold one position with part of your artillery force while the second part is pushing forward and setting itself up at the advanced position, enter siege mode and enable the artillery in the back to leave siege mode and move forward. This type of army movement is extremely slow and it lets your base be exposed to all sorts of influences, but hey… you can’t have an invincible ball of death (the majority of your army is at one place and it is almost impossible to be penetrated without extreme losses to the attacking side) without its consequences.

Yes, I do realize this is wee bit too much talk about one unit, but Zeus has such impact on the battlefield you can’t just divorce him from influence he has on both sides. Owner of Zeus must face with his army moving extremely slow, and the opponent must deal with an overwhelming presence.

Upgrade Priority for Zeus, the Confederate heavy assault tank, is as follows:

  1. Weapon Control System
  2. Missile Launcher
  3. Thermo-Electric Gun
  4. Spirit Missile
  5. Large Caliber Iridium Round
  6. Heavy Tank Armor
  7. Vehicle Repair Module
  8. Heavy Tank Hull

Class: Assault Vehicles

Produced in: Assault Veh. Factory LVL 3

Most effective against heavy armored vehicles and buildings.

Heavy assault tank, Zeus, armed with a high power thermoelectric gun and a missile launcher, can hit both ground and low-flying air targets. Heavyweight and low mobility is compensated with its impenetrable heavy armor and great destructive power.
