Com2uS dished out Skylanders: Ring of Heroes last year achieving critical and commercial acclaim on a global scale. After the release date, we followed the game up with characters’ tier lists and other content. However, now we feel like it is time to compose a thorough guide section, with frequently asked questions by the community found on Reddit and other sources, as well as an in-depth review of the game at its current state in the first part of this page, so let’s dig in.
As the game approaches its first year, the community feedback is quite positive and to be trusted after this time period…
Com2uS is a well-known developer of video games coming from South Korea and it’s focused on online and mobile games mostly. They both develop and publish their content ever since they were founded, back in 1998. Also, they focus on developing for Android and iOS nowadays, but they have made titles for other platforms as well in the past. The company has grown into a multinational conglomerate in the past two decades and now has seats in Japan, China, and the US, besides their home. Of course, S:RoH is only one of their titles in the market, as Com2uS is known for Summoners War: Sky Arena, their greatest and most popular creation so far. Also, they’ve produced Chain Strike, Soccer Spirits, Golf Star, and several other titles.
This is their latest title and its release date was on June 25, 2019. As the game approaches its first year, the community feedback is quite positive and to be trusted after this time period. On Google Play, S:RoH Android has a very good 4.0-star score from around thirty thousand votes. On the iTunes App Store, S:RoH iOS has an incredible 4.7-star score and is enjoying high acclaim with the iOS audience. This is perhaps because of the inherently high tech demands of the game and the average better quality of iPhones and other iOS devices, but more about that later.

Skylanders: Ring of Heroes is set in a wondrous world of fantasy, filled with magic, adventure, and its land is floating on clouds, making it a living paradise. The whole world of Skylands rests on the Core of Light. It keeps the darkness away and helps the paradise flourish. Peace reigns as our Master Eon and the fellow Skylanders have fun all day long in the arena. However, no light is without its darkness and there are always those who wish to rule and to seize this paradise for themselves. One such entity is Kaos, a spiteful fellow. Usually harmless, but this time around he has gotten his hands on the Book of Dark Magic and the power he now wields is beyond even his dreams. He sought to overtake the portals, which are gateways to other dimensions, but the Book’s power was too much for him to control and the portals went out of control, creating a tear or a rift that collapsed on all available dimensions. This rift pulled in other dimensions and brought them to the world of Skylands, which includes the Earth’s Portal Masters i.e. players.

Anyone who played the Summoners War will recognize Skylanders: Ring of Heroes gameplay…
Anyone who played the Summoners War will recognize Skylanders: Ring of Heroes gameplay. This is a mash-up for RPG, turn-based combat, and hero collector, and Com2uS has practically pioneered the mix. The player is placed in the role of the Portal Master, and you get your own piece of heaven i.e. Skylands island. You can customize the island by your design, the same as in the Summoners War. Furthermore, there are the same options for playing – questing through the campaign mode, daily quests, PVP battles, and more. However, this is where this game took a rather big leap ahead in the genre.
Most of these games feature the standard rock, paper, scissors mechanic. Some recent titles began adding in additional elements, but S:RoH goes much further in this regard and introduces eleven elements in the same advantage-disadvantage circle, which are:
While the game started out with around 80 characters, new characters are being constantly added in the game. You assemble your squad, equip runes and then go through dungeons and battles. You can collect and lead Skylanders and Villains alike in this game, which is an innovative mechanic. In combat, you are to use the elemental advantage to the best of your ability with characters’ skills available on your team. However, contrary to what other games featured, all your abilities and team members are available on any of your turns and the only limitations are mana and cooldowns.

Visuals are impressive, to say the least, but this is not just a re-skin of Com2uS’ hit game…
Compared to the Summoners War, this game is much more polished and advanced, in terms of graphics. Visuals are impressive, to say the least, but this is not just a re-skin of Com2uS’ hit game. It has many more features, more abilities, more things for players to explore and do, and they are all very clearly explained with visual cues. Graphics and textures are polished up and the entire experience does feel like this is a fresh game with the latest tech in development.

Even though it is very advanced in terms of visuals, the game is still not too demanding in terms of tech…
While S:RoH is very advanced in terms of visuals and it does have massive diversified gameplay with lots of elements, the game is still not too demanding in terms of tech. Minimum configurations of your mobile devices are 2GB of RAM or higher, with Android 4.3 or up and iOS 9.0 or up. It may even work on less, but not in an optimal way. The game will also ask for permission for using your storage for its own files, syncing with friends list on your Google Account, but not for accessing any other parts or personal data.

Of course the game does feature microtransactions and they seem to be reserved for highly competitive players only…
In this regard, this game offers a similar but expanded experience compared to the Summoners War, like in all others. There is a myriad of resources, runes, potions, energy, and various other things you are using and gaining while you play, which means there are more things to earn and grind. But, this opens up the possibility of playing without spending real money in a big way. Of, course, the game does feature microtransactions and they seem to be reserved for highly competitive players only, there is no hard paywall otherwise.

While S:RoH came out in June 2019, the community is already amassed and has well-established sources on the Reddit, other forums, and websites. Character tier lists, guides, gameplay tutorials, progression guides, best team compositions, and other info is found easily, but it is scattered over the web, We’ve attempted to gather the most important info we could find and put it all together on a single page, along with FAQ for the game answered. Frequently asked questions about this game are:

As it is traditional in similar gacha games, evolving a character to the next tier requires the current tier to be maxed out. So, your character needs to be powered up five times before evolving. Evolution is an essential upgrade, but powering up and doing other sub-upgrades is important. There is also a question about if you should evolve or invoke a Skylander character, that is processed in various character progression guides. And, if you are building the best team, an argument could be made that you should first get your characters to six stars before awakening any of them because this will make your grind easier for shards you need for awakening. This suggestion comes courtesy of the Reddit community.
The experience is generally gained through scenario progression, dungeons, potions, and Meditating Woodlands. Dungeon experience is pretty low, so it is generally recommended to concentrate on scenarios farming, where you need to be energy-efficient, and focus on farming shards before going for the missions that yield the highest experience. Skylanders characters start at level 1 and players on Reddit and other community sources have different views on this question. More so when you get a new cool character you want to include on your best team, but it is level 1. Thus you can implement experience potions for the first couple of levels.
Reroll can be done with logging in as a guest, as it is traditional in gacha, or you can reset in-game. If you go for the guest accounts, it could take some time because you need to go through the tutorial and the cinematics and conversations between characters. However, there is a trick to avoid the guided tutorial progress. Claim your login rewards and your Stealth Elf, and after your *Quest Complete* screen pops up, do not claim the quest reward for the part I, just tap *Home*. If you claim it, the tutorial guided chain will continue, if you do not, you can do other things in-game. Then go to adventure and auto-play will then be available. After you go through the last stage and you open the 2. The Misty Bog (easy), you can proceed to your summons. Again, after your quest reward pops up, do not tap *Claim* but tap *Home*, go to mail, and get your Gem rewards, which will be over 2400, more than enough for your reroll. Then go to the summon screen and do 3 800-Gem summons.
Runes are another essential part. However, a lot of players get to a problem where their inventory is full and they can’t get any new runes. To get rid of some of your runes and sell them, just go to the Skylanders tab, tap your character, tap on runes, and tap select. This will allow you to check all runes you want to sell and it will show you how much gold you will get.
- Tap *Skylanders* menu in the bottom left
- Tap any character
- Tap *Runes*
- Tap *Select*
- Tap on any rune to check it and you will see the *Sell* button below and how much gold you will get
Runes are awarded from scenarios and other various sources. It is not recommended to power up the 1 and 2-star runes unless you need to progress through the low-level missions faster. But, after you start getting 3-star runes, you can go with 3 power ups. This means you will get 3-star runes with 9 power and 4-star runes with 12, but do not power them up to 15. Only do 15 for 5 or higher star runes. Percentage value runes are the most popular choice but it is not always so as lower-star runes might not yield the benefit you want. But, once you start farming 6-star runes, percentage values are the option to go for.
S:RoH is a bit different than other JRPG gacha games because they allow the player to choose character skills, while most have a previously determined skill set for a specific character or award skills randomly. This is good because you can build your best team and choose the skills you need to work together. Also, you can unequip a skill if you want to change things up, and you do so by tapping your character and the skill you want to change. This will bring up that character’s available skills interface, with additional info.
Enigma is widely considered as one of the (if not THE) best support characters for early-game progression. He is included often in best team compositions and he is also mostly gotten from Part II quests and early on in the game. Enigma has a great utility skill set and he is worth investing past 3 stars, while he is also worth maxing out going all the way to 6 stars and with all runes. He is perhaps not a recommended choice for the best team compositions when you play PvP, according to many of the Reddit posts, but for campaign progression, Enigma will prove worth the investment.
Gems are the premium currency and they are extremely limited in supply if you opt for free-to-play. However, if spent wisely, you can get the most value out of what you get from awards, quests, and progression. They are mainly spent on refilling energy, arena medals, and, of course, summoning. Refilling is not recommended naturally, especially when you are in early or mid-game because every time you level up your account, your energy will be refilled to the max. However, it is also not that great to spend gems on summoning as well, as you need 800 gems for 3 Premium Summons, which is very expensive. The best thing to do is to do those 3x Premium Summons until you get nat5 and then just stop and find some better way to spend gems or conserve them. We’ve found that it is a good investment to upgrade the magic and energy collector buildings, for they collect gems and energy.
