E3 2019 is getting closer and we will hear a lot of rumors before it takes place. And so, a rumor reported by the Wall Street Journal comes among the first ones and it caused a lot of stir. Namely, the website reported that Nintendo will launch two new Switch models this year, probably already in the summer.
Based on the reliable source, the rumors say that the idea is to sustain sales of the product that has been present on the market for three years. One console will have improved hardware, while the other will bear a cheaper price and thus be a pared-down version. However, the latter shouldn’t worry you since the current Nintendo Switch costs around $300, so it is a fine way to make the product available for those who can’t pay so much.
The enhanced version of Switch is intended for hardcore gamers but even then its specs are no match to PlayStation 4 Pro and Xbox One X. The cheaper version will be a successor for the 3DS device and thus intended for casual gamers, and also it won’t have controller vibration thanks to the effort to lower the costs. Also, the report says that Nintendo will bring new displays to these Switch models in partnership with Sharp.
“You would be wrong to think the enhanced version is similar to what Sony did with PS4 Pro and the other is just a cheap alternative that looks very similar to some past hand-held machines, say, Sony’s PlayStation Vita,” said the Wall Street Journal source.
The consoles will get an official announcement at E3 2019 in June, and after a few months, they will launch worldwide. Nintendo Switch sold in over 32 million units in just two years after its global release. This year’s E3 will also bring new hardware announcement by Microsoft, and Sony might come out with more news on PlayStation 5.
Nintendo is yet to comment on this rumor, so stay tuned.
