It seems that everything is about the Witcher these days. From Netflix TV show and the whole controversy about Ciri, the showrunner Lauren S. Hissrich leaving Twitter after all the backlash and the new book Season of Storms is out.
However, on October 23 CD Projekt Red will release the Witcher spin-off for PC – Thronebreaker: The Witcher Tales. And most importantly, one of the characters from the original series is taking the leading role. The game will first appear for PC and later on December 4 for Xbox and PlayStation 4.
After CD Projekt Red announced a couple of months ago that they won’t be making any more games featuring Geralt of Rivia, the fans were really worried. But this game was in the making for a while, even though the developer didn’t release much information about the story or a more revealing trailer.
Nonetheless, we were able to gather some details from all around the Web as well as statements made by CD Projekt Red. What we know so far is that the game will be a single-player RPG with puzzles, explorations, and battles based on the card game gameplay. Queen Meve of Lyria is going to be the main protagonist and for those who don’t know, she is a pretty important character from the books.
Firstly she planned to kill Ciri by conspiring with King Foltest of Temeria, then led an army against Nilfgaard and lastly, she knighted Geralt. And that is one of the reasons Geralt has that “of Rivia” part in his name. In Thronebreaker: The Witcher Tales, Queen Meve will face Nilfgaardian invasion and so once again go to war.
GWENT: The Witcher Card Game is also being released in full on the same date with the Homecoming update.
So, basically, it’s good to be the Witcher fan these days with so many things going on around the franchise. There will be more news on Netflix’s TV show since the producers are yet to announces the actors who will play Yennefer and Ciri. And who knows, maybe we will see some more script leaks, but the most curious thing of all is probably what will Henry Cavill look like Geralt of Rivia. I guess this is the season of the Witcher.
