SHOTGUNS GUIDE

Shotguns are special weapons, and although many think that their usefulness ends as soon as you get your first AR or DMR I beg to differ. You won’t see many shotguns at the end game, that’s true but even in the mid-game, they are reliable as the second weapon. When you carry a sniper rifle or a DMR, and you need to enter the building just switch to the shotgun and you are golden. Shotguns are the BEST close range weapons. Every shotgun uses pellets instead of normal rounds, and the pellets spread too much on longer ranges, but they are absolutely devastated at short ranges. They can kill a foe with one well-placed shot from a few meters away because of the special ammo these weapons use. They are the most common weapon that people use right after the parachute drop, because they are easy to find and because there is a good possibility you’ll come across a foe at a very close range since they will be looking too. I’ve put a 0 m range on each one because their damage falls off as soon as the bullets leave the gun.

This is a common hunting shotgun. I had to put this here, I saw a lot of people moaning about the long range that this gun has. It has a longer range for a reason.  Game developers often have to balance stuff to make things interesting, otherwise, you would see all the people using 2 or 3 guns in every game. Don’t moan, accept that this is not an easy task.

Like every other shotgun in the game, it is using 12 gauge shells. The guns only have 2 rounds, which you can use in the quick succession so make sure you hit or you’ll die to try. Those 2 shots can easily take down the enemy at close ranges. Damage of the gun is the worst amongst shotguns, but it’s still unbelievable. As for the rate of fire, this is the quickest shotgun in the game and like I said, you need to make sure that those 2 shots count.

If you put a choke on this shotgun it becomes effective at much larger distances, try and see.

S1897 is the only pump action shotgun in the game. This means you’ll have to wait a bit after taking another shot.

Since every shotgun uses the same ammo, we won’t waste time on it. S1897 can hold 5 rounds, but it’s not a magazine! Damage in the perfect conditions is the highest in the game. Those conditions include point blank range and hitting the target with every pellet. If you manage to hit a foe up to 10 meters away, not even a level 3 equipment can save him. Especially if you are using a choke, don’t be afraid to shoot at the distant enemy, you’ll be surprised. The rate of fire is not something this gun can brag with, you need to make every shot count. You’ll find yourself in quite the pickle after a few misses, so you need a bit of practice to use it just right. I have to admit, I am biased towards this weapon. There is something special in downing a foe with one shot, I don’t know… One of the best weapons to use in the early, looting stage of the round.

S12K

S12K

The only automatic shotgun in the game. This gives S12K a clear advantage over any other close range weapon because of its excellent damage. You can even one shot people with it, it’s ridiculous.

Let’s get on to the raw stats. Ammo is the same, as every shotgun, 12 gauge shell, nothing new. It has a 5 round magazine, the best amongst shotguns. Damage is the second best in the game, and this means you can one shot people close to you. It is advisable not to use the Saiga in long ranges, you won’t deal much damage, if any. This is the best shotgun in the game, usable at every stage of the game for a close quarter combat.  Just one note: be advised when you use the gun on auto, the recoil is not easy to handle.

Sawed-off

Very unusual and specific weapon. When you look outside this is just the S686, shortened. But it’s not.

Looking at the raw stats tells us the Sawed-off shotgun is using the 12 gauge shells, no surprise. It has a 2 round magazine like S686 and a wee bit less damage. Soooo, what’s the catch? This weapon can shoot both rounds instantly. That’s not all. It acts like a sidearm, taking up the same low space. There are two bad things about it though. First one is the range. Every shotgun has a high drop damage-wise as soon as the shells leave the chamber, but the sawed-off wins. It is only usable in the range where you can hit a foe with the pan, but at least you won’t have to hit twice. The second is small bullet number. After you fire those two rounds, you are done at this range if you miss. Shoot carefully, you can miss even at the point-blank range if the enemy is moving. The only reason why you should hold on to this shotgun after you find better weapons is being cool. Like, Mad Max cool.
