Rusty Lake Hotel

Rusty lake was released a couple of years back, being the first paid game from the Rusty Lake studio, it had a lot to answer for. It is a sequel to the Cube escape series, one of the bigger series on the android point and click market.

The story starts you off in a hotel with new guests arriving, your job is to make sure their stay is comfortable by fulfilling their wishes and serving them dinner at the end of each day.

Little do they know they are the dinner.

It’s a bizarre game without a doubt, the atmosphere is where the game shines, with the eerie feeling flowing through the levels as you finish your puzzles. There seems to be a lot of potential in the game, with its mysterious vibe it brings an interesting and rather different kind of notion compared to most games.

Sadly, the story doesn’t deliver, you get slight snippets from time to time of what characters backgrounds are, and some items in their room might explain why they are in the hotel, but they don’t really get much other than that, it would be nice if they had stories that developed their characters more.

As you can expect from a point and click game, you will solve your puzzles by finding items in the rooms and using them in creative ways, it doesn’t reinvent the wheel, but it doesn’t really need to.

This game suffers from what a lot of indie point and click games suffer from, which is a lack of reasoning for why things are as they are, some of the puzzles don’t follow any logic whatsoever, and you couldn’t reasonably infer them, these aren’t as bad on the main ingredient that you need, but they can get very frustrating once you try to get the optional ingredients, example for that being finding tomatoes, which you cannot reasonably expect someone to have an idea how to get without using a tutorial.

Developers released a walkthrough on their youtube channel, and put it on the main menu of the game, which can come in handy when you get stuck at some part of the game, you’ll most likely need it.

I’d say that this game is not really too worth getting, there are many better point and click games on the market, if the story seems interesting, you might want to try the previous titles in the series since they are completely free on their website and decide for yourself whether you want to spend money on rusty lake.
