When we talk about flagship mobile phones we talk about the models which are leading the charge, the best of the best, so to say. To be considered a flagship mobile phone a certain model would have to have brought something innovative to the market, or to have surpassed the competition by its performances, or at the very least to be an excellent balance of performance and price.

This year, 2018, has seen some pretty advanced models, and although innovative ideas were mostly oriented towards appearance and design, there are still some models which expanded the boundaries of performance and convenience.

In this respect, according to the Blue Moon Game, the top 5 flagship mobile phones of 2018 are Huawei P20 pro, OnePlus 6, LG G7 ThinQ, Sony Xperia XZ2, and Samsung Galaxy S9.

Huawei P20 pro

Huawei P20 pro

Its gradient finish and radiant design make this device stand out already, but the appearance is secondary next to its already famous camera capability.

The Huawei P20 pro has brought us the triple camera setup, which is currently making it a mobile device with the best camera capability by far. Its images are incredible and it has a triple optical and 5x hybrid zoom, with a nighttime photo 4-second exposure giving us very bright and clear low light images.

Its battery life is also above average for its phone class, thanks to its 4000 mAh battery.

The images it takes are currently the best a mobile phone can provide, but the video quality is said to not be as good. It lacks stabilization at 4K, and its software has had some mixed reviews, a lot of them of course due to the infamous notch, but other than that the Huawei P20 pro has earned its place in the top 5 in our opinion.

OnePlus 6 (The best bang for your buck)

OnePlus 6

OnePlus devices are keeping their contemporary design with every new model. The developers seem to function under the ‘You don’t judge the book by its cover’ philosophy, because the simplified and plain design of the OnePlus 6 phone is completely misleading. This device is absolutely awesome, if only for the fact that it costs under $ 700 while it gives you a base of 128GB of storage. This means that you can literally buy two OnePlus 6 devices and still have some change compared to the price of an iPhone 10.

This price gets even better when you realize you are getting a really good package for it. The design, although contemporary, is actually quite good, durable, and sturdy. It features a full HD+ analytic display and it is said to be one of the overall fastest mobile phone devices out there. It has a base of 8GB of RAM and a 3300 mAh battery with an incredibly fast charging speed.

LG G7 ThinQ

LG G7 ThinQ

This model might not stand out in terms of the flashy design of prestige features, but it currently costs around $ 800, and its got its own set advantages over the other competitor models. Firstly, its LCD display is super-bright with Quad HD+ resolution and a wide-angle camera, which is a rare phone device feature.

What probably makes it different from all the other phones in its class is the fact that it has a Boom Box speaker. Now, although it is not a stereo speaker, it does use the space inside the phone’s body as a resonance chamber and gives off a pretty strong and good quality sound, especially if placed on a hard surface. It also has the infamous notch and a 3000 mAh battery, which is okay.

Sony Xperia XZ2

Sony Xperia XZ2

Both the basic and the compact versions actually share this spot in our list, because Sony Xperia XZ2 compact is probably one of the best compact smartphones you can buy right now, but some people prefer something basic and more manageable.

What makes these two models so good is the fact that currently, they are the only mobile devices which offer 4k HDR video recording. Though, photos these models take are not as great, especially low-light. Sony is focused on increasing the megapixel number instead, but there is water/dust resistance, expandable memory, and a stereo speaker which is always cool to have.

Samsung Galaxy S9

Samsung Galaxy S9

As with Sony, here we must include both the basic and the Plus version. Both models are probably the best all-around mobile phones currently available, with a great build and design, and the best display in the market right now – the super AMOLED display with the quad HD+ resolution.

It also includes stereo speakers, fast charging (wireless also), water/dust resistance, and NO notch. It also features a great camera, with the widest aperture in a smartphone, which is great for low light photos. It is currently a bit pricey, but you do get what you pay for.
