At first look, he will strike fear into your bones, but once you meet this scary looking giant he will actually prove that he is one of the sweetest and friendliest characters you will meet in Harry Potter: Hogwarts Mystery.

Rubeus Hagrid is a half-giant that was born in the late 1920’s. Most of his childhood was quite interesting. He grew up with his father who was a pure-blood wizard, while his mother who was a giantess left them in order to rejoin her colony of giants. He doesn’t have much of a memory of his mother because she left them when Hagrid was just a little baby. When I say little, well he was not that little. By the age of six, he already surpassed his father in size. So he was already bigger than a full grown man. Imagine living with a kid that is bigger than you. Luckily for Mr. Hagrid, he was a good “little” giant, but only when he would get bored playing with his dad, he would pick him up and put him on a high shelf. Rubeus was accepted by Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry in 1940 where he was sorted into Gryffindor. His father was so excited when his son was accepted by Hogwarts because he didn’t know how if Rubeus is going to fit in the human world, being a half-giant. Surprisingly, he made some good friends along the way including Albus Dumbledore who was a Transfiguration Professor during that period. The things he liked more than hanging out with human friends was having magical creatures. He actually liked animals much more than humans. One of his favorite pets was Aragog, a young Acromantula, or in plain English – a hairy giant spider. At the same time when Hagrid was in his third year, there was a student in year five called TomRiddle, later known as Lord Voldemort. He unleashed this exact type of creature on the school which ended hurting a few students and even killing one. All chaos broke loose and in the end, it was Hagrid who was accused of that major incident, and that it was his pet who attacked the young students. He tried to defend his spider friend and himself, but no one believed him. No one except Albus Dumbledore. He ended up hiding Aragog in the Forbidden Forest before he was expelled from Hogwarts, his wand destroyed and was banned from using magic. The only one who believed him was Dumbledore, he managed to convince the Ministry of Magic and he was reinstated as Hogwarts Gamekeeper, meaning he was watching over Hogwarts and all of his land and rooms. He held the keys to all entrances, making sure everything is in order. In the Harry Potter: Hogwarts Mystery mobile game he will become a great ally that will watch your back from time to time like he did with the legendary Harry Potter.

HOGWARTS ADVENTURES:

Year one:

Chapter 2: Your protagonist will end up locked by Merula Snyde inside the Potion Storeroom with Rowan Khanna. Upon struggling to hold back the magical plant, Rowan will try to open the door but will fail every time until Hagrid arrived to save the day. There you will meet for the first time, and he will kindly suggest you go to your common room to change your ripped clothes and cool your head.

Year Two:

If you’ve watched the movies, you know Hagrid is kind and sympathetic despite his grim appearance. You seem to have grown on Hagrid during your time at Hogwarts and gained his trust. And Hagrid can be quite a powerful ally.

Chapter Six: This is the only chapter in which you will see Hagrid and he will ask for your help with something. This is a side quest and you can choose whether you want to do it or not.

It seems Hagrid needs you to gather the ingredients for a Fire-Breathing potion for him. What for, we don’t know yet. And he won’t tell us until we’re finished.

Rowan will help you find the first ingredient, which is Lavender Springs. He brought some to the dorm room to counter the bad odor from his roommate’s socks. He will gladly sacrifice his comfort to help you.

The next ingredient you need is located in the Artifact Room, and Ben will be there to help you find it. He’s been spending a lot more time in that room since the Cursed Ice incident, trying to improve his magic skills. Look for the Powdered Dragon Horn with Ben and once you have it you can continue your search.

Somehow, Penny has also heard that you are helping Hagrid gather the ingredients. And lucky for you, she has just what you need, Fire Seeds. Why she happens to have those on her for no particular reason is strange, but we’ll take it.

Once you have all the necessary ingredients, Hagrid send you to Snape so he can brew the potion for him. Snape will question you as to why you need the potion. Lying to Snape will not work since he is too clever. Just tell him the truth, and he will even award you with 10 House Points for being honest.

It turns out the reason Hagrid needed the Fire-Breathing Potion was to free his new puppy from the dreadful Devil’s Snare. And who could resist saving a helpless puppy? Chug the potion, scare the awful plant and bring the puppy to safety. As a reward, Hagrid will also let you name it.
